I have heard the melody played at the beginning by a girl singer in duet with a man. It's is an old recording and it has a poetic recitative in the middle of the song, but as the title is in chinese, I don't know the name of the song. Much music, western and oriental, has been inspired in traditional or folk songs. Thanks for a beautiful posting.
