The feral pig problem here in the states has escalated, since people thought they were cute, and until they became a problem, no one really paid much attention to them. After a few incidents where people were severly hurt by these animals, that were not even hunting them, then the public outrage occured and resolution was required. Hunters just happen to fill that void nicely, while paying for tags to do so (Unless depredation permits are granted). 99.9% of hunters do eat what they kill.
No flagging necessary here mate, the videos from the UK where JRT's are used for ratting is much more violent, though I feel it is a service that is needed to control the vermin population. before there was the gun, there was the dog. guns malfunction, dogs will not (when properly trained). hunting with dogs greatly reduces accidents and, face it, these dogs live and breathe for the thrill of the chase and the reward of a good day's work.

No I haven't never lost one during training. I have started as young as 10 weeks old. Be sure and start with a small pig around 10 lbs.or less and graduallly move them up to a larger one.You are trying to make them over confident. later on they will learn to stay back and bay at a big bad hog.

First of all if you are afraid of your dog getting hurt maybe you shouldn't make a hog dog out of her.There is alot of protective gear out there.Such as cut collars and cut vests but accidents still happen.I start all my pups in the pen or just in the yard with a small pig tied by the back leg.After a while you can put a bigger pig in a pen and take her to it every day and let her bay from the outside.Then let her in there every day.

I have a black mouth curr and want to start her on hogs but she is my BABY any suggestions how I can start her wo her gettn seriously hurt? I would be heartbroken!

First of all if you are afraid of your dog getting hurt maybe you shouldn't make a hog dog out of her.There is alot of protective gear out there.Such as cut collars and cut vests but accidents still happen.I start all my pups in the pen or just in the yard with a small pig tied by the back leg.After a while you can put a bigger pig in a pen and take her to it every day and let her bay from the outside.Then let her in there every day.
