E' la prima volta che sento Pasero: sono rimasto fulminato dalla sua voce, dal suo canto, dalla sua recitazione ben sostenuta dal collega. Immenso: mai vista una cosa simile. Peccato che non abbia finito di cantare l'aria.
This video made my day!!!! Great Tancredi Pasero! The good old times...He was a true bass just like Nazzareno De Angelis, Luigi Rossi-Morelli, Taurino Parvis, Giacomo Vaghi, Alfredo Colella, Angelo Masini Pieralli etc.
I agree,. I think this is a great one. He was a grea bass, leader bass of La Scala. Unfortunatelly we don't hear this kind of singing and kind of voices anymore. A bass should sound natural, like a tenor.
Yes, nartural singing method with basses is very rare tese days. I was in Berlin Staadtoper a week ago, where I heared a good bass singing.
The bass sang Veccia zimarra from La Boheme like Pinza used to. Unfortunately I cant remember the name of the bass. The audience clapped for Rodolfo's (tenor) high notes, but not for the excellent bass. It made me allmost furious, but I was very pleased to hear a good bass.
well, also public is not the same. This is the world that we live. Today is very common that people for example in a concert applaud between movements. This 30 years ago didn't happen. Just that today there are many new without knowledge and tradition, and instead of learning a little bit or educate themselves, they just go to the "show".
Anyway, Pasero certainly was a fantastic bass, and I love this perforamnce and interpretation of La Calunnia. This performance also shows, I believe, that at least some "old school" singers certainly knew how to act! :) Cheerio!
thank you for introding you? See, merryest, that kind of comment prove that you are a beginner and amateur. Pasero was the great bass of La Scala. Take some courses on line about opera. You will feel much better.
Sir, or madam, or whatever you may be. As an OPERA SINGER, I have focused mostly on studying the great singers of my own voice and fach. That is to say, I have studied extensively about the tenori leggieri and some of the lighter lyrics. How about you put your money where your mouth is, "Disstefanno". Let's hear you sing, and then let's hear me sing. Want to step up to the plate and dish out, o siete voi pura bocca?

Merryjes, was not Disstefano, but DI STEFANO. You prove one more time that you are one amateur. I can imagine you are a good singer for a bar or pub, may be., may be. If the only thing you did was concentrating in light tenors, you did all wrong. A tenor that can't appreciate Di Sefano, should be a retarded. Even Pavarotti said that Di Stefano was his model. Va fan' culo!!!!
Sir, I was addressing your username. If you cannot tell the difference, then I am sorry that the age of the internet caught you in your well-advanced age. That is, if you can't tell when I'm talking to YOU, Username "Disstefano", and when I'm talking about Giuseppe Di Stefano, the tenor who destroyed his voice by his 40s after decades of incorrect technique, then it is you who has a bit of a problem, I would say.
Indeed, Di Stefano was Pavarotti's model alright: No high Cs left there either.
Merryjest, someone like you, that of course you are nobody in this business, talking all that bull shit about Di Stefano, it is a waste of my time. Di Stefano is and was a model for most of the great singers. You are a clown and ignorant, and in Italian: un cretino.

Furthermore, every tenor should focus -nay, every singer- on those of his own Fach. It is only then that one learns how others have handled similar instruments. I have studied other tenors of other fachs, but my focus is on the leggieri. No leggiero can sing like a lirico, and no lirico can sing like a Heldentennor. Now it is you who shows their complete ignorance of singing technique. I notice how you have avoided my challenge.
Merryjest is NOT a pub or bar singer, and makes good choices and I think fair criticisms of other opera singers. However, both of you have reduced the discussion into a singing pissing match. Va fan' culo? Someone who treats another person as ignorant because they didn't know one person out of dozens and dozens of people and fachs throughout history is just as ignorant. Who someone knows does NOT determine a voice, or did we all forget that?

Merryiest, can not even be a pub singer or bar singer. Not even that. A person that has the courage to insult Di Stefano and Del Monaco lost my respect. Just because he is leggero, C'mon!! Is he the great Juan D Flores?? who the hell he thinks he is? and I reapeat to him and also to you: vai fare in culo.
There is a lovely story about the young Shostakovitch who was sightreading Brahms Second Symphony at the Conservatoire. Glazunov came in and said "Oh! Brahms second, how wonderful, do you know it?" "No maestro" replied the young Dimitri "Lucky you" said Glazunov sadly "Unfortunately, I already know everything"
There are no more singers like Passero,my dear sir or lady!!!!today, everything is show bizz, orgy, girls, money,Hollywoodian dreams,Broadway diseases....
For that.I NEVER NEVER NEVER listen to the singers of today.
Ma certo.... il mio commento era ironico. Ma bisogna andare a teatro anche oggi... il tuo approcio Never never never e troppo tragico.
czardodon, are you like new in the opera? you really sound like a "pirla". Singers today can not over pass an orchestra!!!! They don;t have squillo in their voices, they don't know how to sing, because as GIGLI SAID: if the young opera students don't dedicate years studying voice tecnique, the Bel Canto will be forgotten. .... And this is today a reality. The only tenor today that I can have a respect for his quality is Juan D. Flores, and sometimes Marcello Giordani.. but sometimes.
Disstefanno, I find you here too, with your usual bad language and insults, You certainly don't come across as an educated or cultured person. You and your alteregos: operamanagers; expertolirico; newyorkopera... and all those others with that DiegoBaner saved as their only favourite. MMM....
