Use your index and midlefinger next to each other, lay the pick onto it, and then hold it with your thumb. Thats what i call weird :)

No I mean EMGs are the least glassy pickups I have ever heard in my life. If you want to hear real glass try a strat. I've never heard a worst clean than emgs.

I've tried starts on clean... they tend to get a bit muddy for me. (maybe I'm using bad starts or the amp I try em on isn't EQ'd right)

Yeah probably bad strats because Single Coils are known for having really nice cleans full of clarity and sparkles that's why guys like John Frusciante and John Mayer use them

geetah is right that single coils give you a good glassy tone but real glass comes from the middle positions where you use two single coils at the same time

Vaughan uses that position all the time along with a lot of other strat players

Ok, I have a few answers to the questions here. First there is a book in the Ledgendary Guitar Licks series on Zakk Wylde that has this song in it ($20). Yes, those are EMG pickups and his string gage of choice is a custom wound set of GHS's (.10, .13, .016, .036, .052 and .060 or .070 if detuned). And for the muscles . . . protein shakes, curles, pushups, and pullups.
