In my opinion the Patriot is more like a regress....the cherokee is much better. The Wrangler however is great...I use to own a CJ7, so its a great improvement especially in comfort...
I just read about a years worth of negative comments on the new Jeeps from a bunch of old school crybabies who havent bought a new car ( or can afford one) in over 10 years. I'm on my SECOND new Patriot (09 and 11). We buy the product, not you. I liked the looks of the 2011, so I bought one. They added the things I wanted, so I bought one. You guys shop at the junkyard, Ill keep my 2011.
Jeep - Assembled in Ohio, Iran, China and Canada. Any Jeep made after 1986 is pretty much the ultimate poser vehicle. Thanks Chrysler for ruining an American icon.
The safety on the Jeep Patriot is really good and I just read that they score well in roll over crash tests. Actually they do better than most other SUV's as the roof doesn't crush.
Jeep has a long way to go before they can really capture the market and yep safety is big a concern. The jeeps have the fuel injectors blow and sometime the they go up in a ball of flames. But there is a very big issue with the dreaded "Jeep Death Wobble" that occurs often on brand new Jeep wranglers that haven't even been modified.
The tubes that extend from the roll cage too the windshield in the Wrangler are not for protection in a roll over... which is pretty obvious since all they connect too is a windshield frame. Those tubes are there to keep the windshield more stable. Look at many of the roll over videos to see how badly they crush. Considering that Jeeps are very likely to roll over in an accident you'd think that Chrysler would make the Wrangler cages more secure. Seems like they don't care about your safety.

Why don't they fix the problem? Maybe they don't care about roll over safety? I know it doesn't take much to roll a Jeep.
Jeep is a good vehicle my first one was a 94 YJ and drove it for many years without any issues. Lifted 4.5" with 37" goodyear mtr's tires. I now have a 06 rubicon lifted 5 3/4" with 35" and is a very dependable vehicle.
Nothing Chrysler about a Wrangler. All AMC and Willys tecnology that Chrysler bought from them. They actually hindered the off road ability from the AMC version. The onyl Changes Chrysler has made is useless appearance changes. Mahindra still maked the original Willy's. Same technology that AMC engineered which was what quadradrive was renamed off of. Yet better off road ability. If a Jeep is a MoPar than it's an AMC or Willys MotorParts.

I like the Patriot. I've been a Wrangler and Cherokee fan for years, but seeing a nice compact SUV, great mpg, and very low price. What's wrong with it? I don't think it should be comparable though.
Just wait till about 2016, the U.S. is forcing car manufacturers to have better mpgs or they will not be sold here. Of course not every model but jeep doesn't have little compact cars, so im guessing the liberty and patriot will be there models. I hope they make the wrangler get better mpg, then i would buy one, but for now, subaru has me. 01' outback still amazing.
I'm scared of getting a patriot, but for the price, it's main competitors are things like the matrix, cube, juke and soul, where as it's true cometitors are in the early 20's like the rav4 and crv, and honestly i'm not going to offroad it at all, but where i live the roads do get a bit flooded, plus i'd love if it came with absolutly no power options, my 04 impreza, has no working windows currently, and i'd hate to think what that's gonna cost.The jeep just seems simple and cost efective i hope.

What I don't understand is, with all the automobile technology available in the world today, why does the wrangler get only 15mpg? You would think they could engineer it to get 18-21 mpg city, and 27 hwy.
I think the Subaru Forester is better than the Patriot, but I would but the Patriot because for some reason Subaru did not put a temperature gauge on the Forester.

I've never owned a Jeep, my current car is an 04 WRX which I love for its speed and reliability. The JK has always appealed to me, but stories of its unreliability have scared me away. Also the interior was just crap and since that's where I spend most of my time, the interior has to be good. Now it looks like Jeep is trying to attract new customers with a better interior and more attractive packaging, and all of you current owners are pissed. Don't you want Jeep to crawl out of the red?

You didn't really fix anything. Put the Pentastar in the wrangler, better front end, soft doors (I know that isn't really possible though),and make a bare bones interior without any kind of electronics that can break. Why has the jeep changed its marketing to women? Its too big and bulky. I could go on and on about what should really be done but it doesn't matter. ITS NOT A FUCKING CAR AND IT ALSO WAS NOT CALLED A WRANGLER IN 41! It wasn't called a wrangler until the slow decline of the brand.

@KidsInMediaTraining the interior of my 09 rinses just as easy as an 03 or earlier and if everyone listened to the guy you still can hose it down. Yeah you have to spend 5 minutes pulling out the carpets and drain plugs but that is it.

The Patriot is a real Jeep. Look it up. They are trail rated just like all the other Jeeps. I would bet money that the used Cherokee is not trail rated or has round head lights.

It will go off road and do anything a weekend mudder wants and get great mpg. Watch a few videos from hecklerpolished and see what he does with his Pat. Everything you need for a weekend mudder and a daily driver. Sorry the Patriot does 100% look like a Cherokee or get its mpg.

The new interior really sucks. Adding chrome did not improve the appearance. The two tone tan/black is absolutely the ugliest design ever implemented on a Wrangler.
Added amenities? If you want amenities buy a fucking hummer. To much chrome, Rugged interior my ass... Shifter looks like shit.... Body matching hard top unifies the look? Bullshit, you mean, makes it look like a hummer...
The easter eggs on the Wrangler are so cool! I think Jeep should bring back the Cherokee (XJ) with the 4.0l I6. I'm the proud owner of a 96 xj sport and an 03 tj sport. keep up the good work jeep guys!

What I don't understand is, with all the automobile technology available in the world today, why does the wrangler get only 15mpg? You would think they could engineer it to get 18-21 mpg city, and 27 hwy.

I've never owned a Jeep, my current car is an 04 WRX which I love for its speed and reliability. The JK has always appealed to me, but stories of its unreliability have scared me away. Also the interior was just crap and since that's where I spend most of my time, the interior has to be good. Now it looks like Jeep is trying to attract new customers with a better interior and more attractive packaging, and all of you current owners are pissed. Don't you want Jeep to crawl out of the red?

How can you be rugged and refined. Give us the J7 and J8. A diesel option would help as well. We don't care about "soft touch points". Calling it a car just shows how out of touch these fools are. New Wrangler Unlimited Sahara looks great, back to the days of the first Cherokee. It's a long way from a CJ5 or CJ7, but it still can go anywhere most of us will ever want to go. Gotta love it!

I thought my new JK was a little too plush for a Jeep Wrangler. I am really glad I bought my JK this year rather than the 2011. They might as well throw a Hummer label on the front. You didn't really fix anything. Put the Pentastar in the wrangler, better front end, soft doors (I know that isn't really possible though),and make a bare bones interior without any kind of electronics that can break. Why has the jeep changed its marketing to women? Its too big and bulky. I could go on and on about what should really be done but it doesn't matter. ITS NOT A FUCKING CAR AND IT ALSO WAS NOT CALLED A WRANGLER IN 41! It wasn't called a wrangler until the slow decline of the brand.

@tallzdatank I know a lot of Patriot owners with sratches, myself included. I agree with the cost of the Cherokee and yes it is a great proven trail rig. The Patriot is a great in its own regarts. It will go off road and do anything a weekend mudder wants and get great mpg. Watch a few videos from hecklerpolished and see what he does with his Pat. Everything you need for a weekend mudder and a daily driver. Sorry the Patriot does 100% look like a Cherokee or get its mpg.
