AMEN to 2K! I'm 58 and counting and she has been doing it for me for as long as I can remember! She is an AWESOME talent and an even more AWESOME woman of God. She WILL take you there. May God continue to bless her as she approaches 70!
I'm a 27 yr old guy, like to think I'm tough as nails, but this is the only woman in the music game that gives me chills. It's hard to hold back the emotion that comes from listening to her voice. It's effortless.
"Oh Gloreh! mmmmm!" I am so happy that Ms. Aretha Franklin is still able to use her God-given gift to stir the souls of many!! She's truly one of a kind.
Wow..she really did an outstanding job on this. I like the soulfulness of her delivery. Aretha really is a rare singer and one day everybody gonna know that. Her instrument is unique from other singers....as wonderful as they are. There is only one Aretha Franklin. I just learned that she is getting close to 70 years old and is still able to move people with her singing....now that is a blessing from GOD. She and Donny Hathaway are to me the best interpreters of song i have ever heard..bar none.
“You know a force from heaven. You know something that God made. And Aretha is a gift from God. When it comes to expressing yourself through song, there is no one who can touch her. She is the reason why women want to sing.” Mary J BLIDGE;
“There are singers,” said Ray Charles, “then there is Aretha. She towers above the rest. Others are good, but Aretha is great. She’s my only sure-enough sister.”
"... Rather than instinctively linking vocal artist A with freedom, passion, emotion, etc. as I have done above with Aretha, the automatic mental conjunction is made between vocal artist A and a re-enactment of that well-worn drama of scanty clothing and feigned lust/desire in view of what feminist theorists call the male gaze. " Clara FISCHER
"Certainly, the world has produced some fine singers, and women artists are struggling to launch successful careers despite the seemingly increasing odds presented by a patriarchal industry, which confuses objectification with adoration and debasement with entertainment. But perhaps this is precisely where my difficulty in identifying female singing greats of the present era, on a par with Aretha, stems from..."
"... A musical style so heavily steeped in the legacy of slavery inevitably conveys suffering and bears the marks of oppression, however, it also offers a way out of trauma and subjugation – indeed this is the liberatory power Aretha literally gives voice to, and in her own inimitable way repeatedly transforms into states of untrammeled freedom."
"...Aretha’s gospel background undoubtedly plays a role here, as musical ecstasy is frequently reached by ever-intensifying call-and-response sections and coloratura passages, which allow her to really flex her vocal chords, showing off her vast and impressive range..."
"... As a listener, one is taken on a journey through a spectrum of emotions, and regardless of whether a song is mournful, pensive or joyful, Aretha manages to enthrall and elevate beyond the specific context, transporting one to this unshackled realm of, well, freedom..."
"When I think of music’s, or specifically singing’s, liberatory potential, one voice immediately springs to mind: the earth-shattering, shiver-inducing, bone-chilling instrument possessed by Aretha Franklin. Aretha’s amazing talent is intimately linked for me with freedom, not only because of her own, very real struggle to express herself as a black woman artist, but also because of her tremendous capacity for instilling a sense of transcendence in her audience...
i never thought i'd hear Sis. Franklin sing again, cause they said she was sick beyond all help. And here she is singing the Lords word in the grand old church of all the Franklins. And the tear DOES come to my eye because we think we know, but only God knows. Its as if he said, "You humans i made. All things i made, and i only will decide what is possible."
