  • what color is that gibson ? tobaco burst or tea burst ?

  • this or the ac 15?

  • 1:45 yea my baby's on the level (8)

  • modest mouse ftw!

  • It's really sad how this iconic, quintessential and beautiful sounding british amp is now having it long and proud reputation wrecked by korg who now own vox. These amps all ways were made in england and were top notch quality and now they are shit all made in China & Vietnam! They still stick union jacks all over the brandinding... PISS TAKERS!

  • How's the clean headroom on this bad boy?

  • Spoonman! :D

  • SPOOOOONNNMANNNNNNNN!!!!

  • The finish on that strat is sick!!!!!

  • spoonman!!!

  • Andy feels the rhythm with his hands

Andy, speaks a rhythm of his own

    SPOONMAN!

  • it can also give you a nice crunchy toast hehe the night toaster!!!

  • Nice review, although it doesn't go much into clean sounds. I read somewhere it's a similar amp to Peavey's classic 20, which might mean it doesn't go too loud before overdriving.

  • what is the song name at 4:09 ?????

  • @Sotirakis22 The Sex Pistols-God Save The Queen

  • Seems to have a surprising amount of headroom for a 15 Watter. The AC30 was very loud for a 30 Watter so I guess that makes sense. It really depends on the speaker used.

  • This things made in Vietnam. Oh gosh I'll pass. Atleast the lil night train is made in china lol atleast

  • Andy seems like a cool dude with a musical taste

  • Man raconteurs nice !!!!!!

  • modest mouse!!!!

  • I'm looking for a new amp i'm looking for a step up from a practice amp. I mainly play at home but sometimes i'll play a small venue. I play rock/alternative music mainly and i have a strat but i'm gonna buy a les paul pretty soon. I basically want a decent sound that can still piss off the neighbors. If you have any suggestions they would be much appreciated.

  • sounds more mid-rangey than the orange tiny terror, would you agree?

  • Which model Vox cab have you got that thing running through? The Night Train sounds amazing but as its Vox I would expect no less! they really are awesome amps!

  • Please do a demo of the NT-50!!!!

  • was that The Raconteurs I heard? Why yes, yes it was ^_^

  • all that this made me want to buy is a Stratocaster

  • I am going to play Night Train by GnR if i ever plug into this amp!

  • anyone know the cabinet he's playing through?

  • THIS VIDEO WAS UPLOADED ON MY BIRTHDAY ^.^

  • LEVEL!! man that raconteurs sounds brutal through that thing

  • at 1:38... Was that.... The Forest Temple theme? From Ocarina of time?

    <3

  • this with a paisley pedal hooked up to it will sound YUMMMMMYYY

  • Anyone know what he's playing at 3:55-ish?

  • 0:00-0:50 wat song is that

  • @renetony29 Spoonman by Soundgarden

  • @renetony29 Spoonman

  • @renetony29 Spoonman

  • Hmm, that Les Paul almost sounds a bit like a strat, that's quite nice.

  • is this good for gigs at small venues?

  • Bottoms up!

  • why does it cost so much more than a pro jr when the tube set up is identical

  • @rivasg1 because just like anything their are varying qualities of el84 and 12ax7 tubes

  • is this loud enough to gig with?

  • @manbearpig937 yes it is. very clean and powerful sound :D

  • great review. Saw this, went into the shop and tried it. Saved up and bought it! Awesome.

  • 1:38 The Raconteurs - Level !!!!

  • Is Andy using a noise gate in this demo?

  • Sounds great, but is 15 watts too loud to practice at home? The lil night train sounds really nice too, but has fewer features.

  • @minedarea switch it to the 7.5 watts mode :)

  • @minedarea

I have the Vox AC15C1, which is 15 watts, too, and it is way too loud to play fully cranked unless I want the local police showing up every 15 minutes. But you can also use pedals to help push your amp at lower volumes. Or you can get an Electro-harmonix headphone amp ($45) that is designed to run off of your pedal board and use that for quiet practice.

  • @minedarea ...15 watts in an amp that's most enjoyable when played at higher output volume is very loud in the house and IMO too loud for the average households comfort ( talking about the wife here, or parents whichever is your case, even my kids..." can you turn that down a little bit ! " ). I have an AC4TV8 which is a perfect house amp, keeps everybody happy volume wise and is still capable of getting the " can you turn that down a little bit " on the 4 watt setting!

  • do a demo of the NT50H

  • SPOONMAN!

  • Modest Mouse!

  • so about the Night Train's extension cab, how much wattage could the 2x12 withstand?

  • Yeahh level by Raconteurs !:) Sounds greaat! P.S I wonder dear PGS if you could demo EHX English Muffin ? Thanks !

  • i'm buying this..

  • Could you also do a demo of the new Vox Night Trrain 50?

    I would be very happy.

  • god save the queen!

  • Sounds Great!!! I'm in the market for a Nightrain 50H - What concerns me with this video though is that you maybe giving people the wrong Idea Seeings that you have a 15watt Amp Head Mic'd up giving the wrong impression of Tone and Volume available to the Player that decides to buy the 15watt head!!!! maybe you could do another Demo Video without the amp being mic'd up. It's a great amp series and has even I admit more features and tone than the Marshalls. - do a 50H/Cab demo too

  • @TheRedGypsies - Uhhhhh....????

  • Best response ever!

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos What he means to say is that he wants mute guitar amp demos in black and white, otherwise the differences in tone will mislead you

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Fool doesn't realize an amp head has no speakers.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos

The demos are both good and appreciated, but there is something to be said for setting a mic back a few feet or more away.

It's not about getting a good recording tone but rather recreating how the amp sounds, acoustic factors vary but are always there,up close doesn't sound as true as a good condenser mic positioned back a few feet.

  • @TheRedGypsies Soo.... they shouldent mic it so no one can hear it? Your comment made no sense, you cant tell any amps volume through a video. If you want it to sound louder, turn up your computer speakers!

  • @TheRedGypsies How are we meant to hear the amplifier at all if they don't use a microphone?

Also, just as a rule of thumb, you need about 10*the wattage for double the perceived volume. So your 50 watt head isn't going to be a whole lot louder than the 15 through the same speakers. You're just going to get more clean headroom.

  • @TheRedGypsies

They don't mic them because they are quite.they mic them because camera's do not have good mics. 15 watts tube is plenty loud to play with a band. 50 is more than enough,

  • @TheRedGypsies I think it would still sound the same.

  • @TheRedGypsies How do you expect them to record the audio for this demo without a mic? Camera mic...sure, those always sound great. smh.

  • @TheRedGypsies Yeah man! Nothing sounds better than a recording of an amp that hasn't been recorded by a mic! Freaking brilliant! Outstanding thought!

  • @TheRedGypsies how would he record the sound if it wasn't mic'd? would he build a set of these heads into a huge daisy chain around the world so we could all listen to it?

  • @TheRedGypsies Thats what she said

  • @TheRedGypsies How would one record an amp without a mic

  • @TheRedGypsies Haha. I'll spare you the rich succulent scorn I want to include in my comment. Only because it is midnight and I've done bad things things today/ How old are ya mate? How else is are we supposed to hear what he's playing?

  • @TheRedGypsies idiot

  • @TheRedGypsies how else would they capture the sound of the amp for the video unless they mic'd it......

  • @TheRedGypsies Yeah, I agree - Should probably do a silent guitar amp demo...

  • @TheRedGypsies lol you fail

  • did you go to broadcasting school? your voice sounds like voice over !

  • What do u think about this guy versus the orange dual terror?

  • thank you, andy, for your good taste in music. it makes these demos so much better.

  • ok im really curios, but,,,

when you review these amps, do you use your own guitars or do the people who review them bring their own?

e.g do the shop supply a guitar for these demos or do they bring there own :P reply would be great thanks!

  • [3:36] Modest Mouse did a piece with very a similar tune and rhythm; yet as to how my opinion stands, I like the tone on this far better! Exceptionally good performance. Bravo!!!

Keep On Filling The Air With Tone!

  • Andy's got the best job in the world. And he does it brilliantly. The bastard.

  • is it class A watts?

  • @motorhead1995able

No it isn't but neither is any Vox tube amp except for the single ended Ac4.

Even the AC30 and AC15 which may be biased to operate like a "class A" amp when played cleanly are in fact class class AB amps and this fact is audible when you crank it because that spongy response it demonstrates owes in part to the class AB operation.

Beware of the "class A" sales jargon,.Most makers will label AB amps as class A if the amp is biased on the warmer side.

  • I like how you magically switched from a Les Paul to a Strat.

  • ok so i play through a line 6 head and a crate cab.. i bought the head used and was rly thinking about trading it back and buying a new head... do you think the night train would be a nice choice?

rly looking for a good clean channel and turn it up :)

    feedback would be awesome thanks!

  • @MazterSpaz I've got this amp and it's great. It does clean very well, but it is best at an overdriven classic rock sound.

  • Two words: sold me

  • i nearly had to change my pants when his guitar suddenly transformed at 0:49

  • holy cow, i nearly had to change my pants when his guitar suddenly transformed at 0:49

  • @trippytheshroom yes its great if you keep in mind that the vintage speaker realy shines @playing classic rock i think its ment for that

  • love the voice...

    of Andy

  • whats the song at 3:38???????? can some please tell me

  • @guitarguy974 Dashboard, by Modest Mouse

  • So much best than Tiny Terror... Chinese? who cares, just better

  • That D9 chord turned his Les Paul into a Strat.

  • if only vox made a 30watt version of the night train, game over orange tiny terror

  • @MegaFenderstrat There's a 50 watt version, called the Vox Night Train 50 (:

  • Ah Ah AH Ah Ah AH AH AH My Baby's on the level

    Great andy .

  • I got the nighttrain today.

It realy blows my tiny terror away!

This thing is awesome and very loud. i run it trough my tiny terror cab ppc112

  • @knutselsmurf8 is it very versatile, because i was thinking about buying that exact setup (Night train and PPC112 cab)

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN - 4:08

  • Hey what Cab is that?

  • does anyone know if you could play a small jazz gig with this amp? like, can you keep it clean while still being loud enough for a small gig? for example, the fender blues junior (also 15 watts) sounds great with my joe pass guitar and works great for gigs (unfortunately the distortion on a blues junior isn't all that great in my opinion) so i want to know if i could play both rock and jazz with this amp. thanks :)

  • @seanthemusicdude i have it . you definitely can !

  • SPOONMAN!!! YEAAAAAH!

  • 0:47 OMG the les paul turned into a fat strat!

  • is that a royer 121?:)

  • Hello there, Andy. Really great playing, I enjoy your demos alot :)

    I have a lil' question...Is this a class A amplifier...? I could'nt find this detail anywhere...

  • I like this more than the tiny terror... its beefier

  • I used to sit on youtube all day watching guitar covers, but now I just sit here all day watching PGS Demos!

  • This amp is too loud enough witah a 2 x 12 cab?

  • Loving the Modest Mouse at 3:45, thats pretty much sold me the amp. Cheers Andy, great job as usual.

  • Excellent video. Can't thank you enough for your high quality work. Because I had a hardon to buy one of these. And they sound like shit. Ready to crash and burn, indeed. Poop. Back to the tone hunt.

  • @JeredtheShy

Did you change the pre-amp valves? I changed mine from Sovteks to Tung Sols and what a difference it made! It sounded lovely.

  • so how does the V112 matching cabinet sound compared to this one? it would be nice to hear them together

  • Loud enough to play with a drummer and still have a really clean tone?

  • @Anitrop nope. you'll want something in the range of at least 50 watts for that.

  • @Anitrop Not really, try the vintage reissue '65 Twin reverb by fender

  • omg, so this is how andy looks like?

  • Wow, Level at 1:38. Love me some Raconteurs.

  • THATS STAT SOUND BETTER THAN THE LES PAUL (FOR ME)

  • Level!

  • i like playing gnr, ozzy, and slash(solo) style music (basically hard rock)

would this amp head be good?

and also im new to the tube amp and amp head thing, so can some one tell a cheap yet decent cab for this?

  • @nine9live5

    cheap ≠ decent

  • Great amp! the first tube-amp i'm gonna buy, halfway with saving up.

Anyone knows the song @ 3:17 ? Souns great. Mayby a setlist for every vid would be a good idea PGS?

  • WHATS THE PICKUP IN THE STRAT????????????????

  • how does it compare to ac15h1tv?

  • Soundgarden :D

  • spoonman!

  • Andy really know how to demo stuffs : he talks for 1 minute and plays his guitar for 4.

  • modist mouse ;)

  • kiss my f***ing ass! :D

  • do you think you can run the night train through one of the valvetronix series amps? or do you think it's better to get an entire new cabinet as well?

  • Hey Andy, I was just wondering if this amp can be loud enough to be heard over a drummer with a 1x12 cab.

Also, did you use any other pedals between 0:12 and 0:42? I loved that tone, it's basically my thing, but it'd be nice to know if you used anything extra. And just one more question. Do you think an Ibanez ts9 would make the amp sound a lil' heavier?

I'm split between this and the Mesa Boogie TA15. If this amp is loud enough for a band get up, imma get it for sure.

    Thanks.

  • @lalidado From that comment i think everyone wold think you know shit about amps...that or most likely you are about to acquire your first tube amp. No pdels in the video...and for a band even a 5 watt amp would do...if the band is doing things right.

  • Tiny terror vs. Night train vs. Egnater rebel twenty. Which do you prefer?

  • @GuitarM0nkey nighttrain over tiny terror because of its clean tones and both over egnator, i did not like it .... ibought the night train and love it

  • What kind of pickups are in that strat?

  • i love the distortion tone of vox amps

  • yeah spoonman

  • how good is this amp compared to the tiny terror?

  • @JaysalP i find the tiny terror has no decent cleanness, the vox generally has a broader range correct me if you think differently :) i would reccomend the egnator rebel 20 :))

  • 3:40 nice man

  • Man, that sounds good.

  • Hey what kind of strat was that man? It sounded great!

  • hi there proguitarshop . Just to congratulate you : i have the night train , got it recently and your demo sounds exactly like the amp (i use monitor headphones , too)

Yours sound a little better because of high volume and way better cab than mine, but seriously , not that a world of a difference :)

so , props to you guys for that SERIOUS sound quality !

  • How would I loop effects ... Delay and reverb through this babe?

  • Is that a 1 X12 handwired with a Blue your playing through?

  • You guys make better demo videos than Guitar World!

  • 3:35 is Dashboard by Modest Mouse if I'm not mistaken

  • @minikurt67 The first bit is taken from "Spoonman" by Soundgarden..

  • what is the intro song ??

  • Great demo as always Andy. This is driving me nuts - anyone know what's the song that plays in the background at 0:55?

  • @mysticwhiskey That is an Andy original. Either Andy or his assistant Jamie create the background music on all the demos here. Thanks!

    -PGS

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos

love the sex pistols reference. I gotta say-Andy's like a living encyclopedia of licks riffs and references

  • @mysticwhiskey I think its sound garden spoonman at least at the beginning of the video.

  • Comment removed

  • How does this head rank against the Orange Tiny Terror?

  • I'd love to see how this compares to it's little brother, Lil' Night Train.

  • crank it on pentode as well

  • Lil' Night Train Demo Leamog

  • I love my Night Train head

  • i have been wondering, should i get the night train or the orange tiny terror

  • Hi, does this amp love pedals?

  • omg! awesome that you played that modest mouse riff!!!!!!!!!!!

  • how do the excellent VOX speaker does affects the tone ? how's the tone on a "'regular" 1x12 cab ? (with celestion greenback , i think) and how does this compares to the blackheart handsome devil ?

  • Once again...well done Andy!!!!

  • This thing sounds pretty sick!

  • I shoulda just gotten this and a cheap 2x12 cab... Instead I shelled out for the TT combo, and left without many options... gah. Saved more money, and I wouldnt be desperate to find a cab so I can play gigs...

  • Just the kind of demo I like; a full range of amp tones with different guitars, instead of endless 'Last Saturday before Christmas at the guitar shop' widdling and thrashing - thanks, I'll have one.

  • i love the clean scooped sound!!

  • Hi what's the mic you use in front of the cab please? :-)

  • Like the vintage movie effect on this video. :)

  • never thought id hear andy play sex pistols hahaha

  • I need some GAS-X, dear Lord!! haha

  • i can hear soundgarden at the intro :D

  • Hey is that the 60's Custom Shop Strat Andy demo'd in another video?

  • love these videos
