It depends on not only the videocamera's ability to pick up light/color but also the ability of the screen that I'm viewing the video on to reproduce light/color.
hi i have a dell studio 1558 with res 1366x768.i think to upgrade to 1920x1080 resolution..but i ll think that the things gonna be too small for 15.6 inches..what do you suggest...?
Wish Dell kept the sexy/smart looking design of the Studio XPS when they released this Generation of XPS laptops all well im stuck with my 2010 HP Pavilion DV6 until it dies which probably would me soon knowing my luck cause my warranty is up in like a month or 2 haha
i couldn't tell if there is any difference bet the 2 screen color gamut. IS the B+RGLed wider color gamut showing in the movies or is better in photos ?
Great comparison! Is it just me,or the 1645 does have a blue tint when it plays the movie?I am eager to get L501x but I fear its screen. Many claim it as gorgeous, but how does it handle annoying reflections? How strong is your own reflection in the screen?I had a Toshiba as my 1st laptop and I was mad to see my own reflection in the movie and sometimes even had troubles recognising who is who,me or the movie actor! My other option is the Vaio F with identical power and also fullhd, but semi-gloss?
I want to buy a laptop and use it mostly for gaming. What would you recommend me between this two models? Considering I will acquire them with full specs. Thanks.
@hakewyt i think both are good for gaming, they perform similarly except the xps15 has 2gb graphic, usb3 & longer battery life, which is a plus for gamers, I'll go for this if don't mind the look.
yes, I like their review too because anandtech has the most comprehensive review, like some of you mentioned the RGBLED can't display true white and more towards yellowish, the B+RG has some advantage here because the B led appear whiter and hence we get better white, although sacrificing with a lower gamut at 92%, but for most of uf is't still pretty accurate.
I do not notice much difference in the video between the B+RGLED of the XPS and the WLED of the SXPS. I heard that Dell uses B+RG to trick people so they think it is RGB, but it is just a WLED. Which one would you recommend
Also, does the fan of the XPS run all the time as it does in the SXPS. I think my i7-720q SXPS is defective as it generates heat with little load and the fan is always on even when idle. Do you think the XPS is better in this regard. Thanks
B+GR would suggest that it's an alternating blue LED with a combination, selectable output green/red LED. Seems like a price compromise between white and RGB LED, which is how it achieves close to RGB LED, but not quite, yet much higher than white LED color gamut. White is on average 40-60% color gamut, RGB is 100-120% color gamut and B+GR is rated at 92, Anandtech tested up to 98%. This is all what I've read, and the B+GR theory is what I've contrived given what I know of 2-color LED
Of course! I am no expert on whether these were the best way to conduct the test, but I trust Anandtech and I like the way they review products. Note there is a space after "anandtech." because of YouTube's linking policy anandtech. com/show/3999/dell-xps-15-l501x-review/6
So there is some truth to the B+RG nameplate. WLED uses a blue LED with a yellow phosphor to make it look white when it's on. The B+RG uses a blue LED with 2 other phosphors on it that make the appearance of red, and green, and part of the LED is uncoated to allow the blue to come through unchanged. Essentially you're left with an "imitation" RGB LED display.
@DriftEJ20 I won't say it's imitation RGBLED because the name clearly implies a Blue + Red/Green combination, at 92% color gamut I think it's pretty good although RGBLED's 118% is better.
What I essentially meant is the name is accurate (though misleading and unexplained anywhere) because the LED is blue, the +RG is like saying a bonus when compared to WLED, which is a misnomer as well since it's really BLED, which appears white. The term "WLED" has shown that what's advertised is what's perceived (white light), but because Dell already has a TRUE RGBLED offering, calling this a 1080p RGBLED panel for just $130 on top would surely be product cannibalization.
@Vertrin I prefer the Studio XPS 16 a lot more, the only downside is the short battery life, other than that it perform as good as the new XPS15.
Yes, it can be calibrated, the XPS15's B+RGLED is more yellowish/greenish just like the RGBLED and my calibrated desktop monitor, which is more color accurate. the WLED is whiter.
I'm not sure how I should build this computer. I want it to have enough power to run programs like after effects, premier pro and Avid, but I don't want it to eat the battery with power I don't need. I'm stuck between the i5 3.2ghz, 1 GB video card or the i7 with 2GB video. Just don't know if I really need to extra power. Any recommendations?
@Weber805 I prefer the sleek body and stylish look of sxps16, the touch sensitive button and slot loading blu-ray drive, the xps15 is bulky and ugly, but perform as good and has longer battery life.
If you want precessing power and battery life, better settle with i5 and 8gb ram, the optimus graphic switching save battery life. my sxps13 with graphic switching last double compare to the the sxps16.
Even for 4:03 seconds of video comparison, Nicholas Cage is insufferable.

This is a really arbitrary test.
It depends on not only the videocamera's ability to pick up light/color but also the ability of the screen that I'm viewing the video on to reproduce light/color.
We can't really learn anything from this.

@Assen66 I have a 1900x1200 15.6, you can change the font size if it's to small... other than that you have much more space.

Perhaps the movie doesn't show much.

Honestly, Battery life doesn't matter for gaming because you'll be using the A/C Adapter to get that better performance...

..next time you compare 2 laptops compare right,
i have a studio xps with the SEC5448 (RGBLED) yeh the real 16" screen (first edition) 1080p screen......not this later 15.6" 1080p screen.
i havnt seen a better screen then the 16" 1080p SEC5448 Samsung RGBLED like Stusio xps 16 have...thats for sure...............

I don't see significant difference for 2D graphic but the SXPS is a little better in terms of 3D games.

were you playing a blu ray disc? If so, so you think it is worth getting the 1080p screen without the blu ray player? THank you, great video

@LeisterBurnham for me the 1080p screen itself is worth because of the higher resolution as I like to put a lot of things on my screen.
