Don't get me wrong i aint dissing them it just a matter of opinion and a matter of what i know and what i like and dislike about them. LOL the hilux are a great farm ute and are good for getting through stuff due to its weight - being so light is an advantage, but its wheel base is too narrow, and they're top heavy. Plus a turbo charged 2.8 and a 3.00 n/tb cant even catch my 4.2 n/ Tbo Safari with big feet and no gear ratio changes. They just don't have the torque low down.

Gospel truth, Toyota stuffed up there, if you notice on the Hilux surfs and utes, their leafs are set from the inside of the wheels, and beacuse they have a very high centre of gravity (especially when raised) they are top heavy and renowned to roll. Iv'e seen it many times around here and this is a small town. Remember i owned one and used to swear by it, but id have a nissan any day! LOL
But the REAL Eye opener for me was when i first started working at Mainst Auto on the West Coast of NZ. Toyota Hilux Parts are our BIGGEST selling Hard parts! By a country mile, and it aint just because their common thjey are very weak, and very high maintenance., They also have a very bad leaf positiong setup.. which is one of the main reasons they roll often.
Lets just say i used to own an turboed LN106 modified it abit, costing a packet and it all ended up being a waste of time becasue they are literally very weak. I then went out and bought a safari after converting to nissan, with help from my best mate who has a nissan on 35 creepy crawlies, and the damn thing dragged a ej20 turboed subaru in chch once its got that much torque and power with the 4.2Turbo Diesel on 35's! LOL
Nothing like a good relaxing sunday drive along the river.

Hows the nissan go compared to the hilux there?.. its weight an issue?
flyingbrick88 3 years ago
Weight is always an issue!! lol ... Only a issue when the hilux is trying to pull the Safari out!!
They different trucks but heavier duty to the Hilux (my opinion) and I'm rough so break less stuff!!
