It seems when he teaches the count he starts with left foot-count one forward/right foot-count five back. In addition, he accents the count by calling 1 & 5. If that is correct then he is on one.

Male timing for on 2 dancing is right foot-count 2 back/left foot-count 6 forward.

I love this! By the way, they are dancing on 2. At an advanced level, dancers can play with the basic step, so it can look deceiving. Try listening to the second part, with the music. The cross body lead is clearly launched on 1.

You have no basis to compare me in any dance venue. But I will say this, I dance ON1 and ON2... I was instructed, but Eddie Torres, Grisselle Ponce and Ismael Otero was my classmate and good friend from to Dickinson High School in Jersey City. I've done dance performance with Cultural Explosion on many occassions.

I'm just learning salsa... i really like his moves, but why does he switch the counts around? The girl usually doesn't move across in cross body lead unti 5-6-7, but he moves her at 1-2-3. That confuses me... Is that what On 2 means?

I think Juan Matos likes to emphasize the 1 and 5 because they are important points for styling when you're breaking on the 2. You're dancing on 2, but you put a lot of flavor and style into the 1 and the 5. Anyways, that's why I think he says "1" and "5".
