American crosswords have less "unpaired letters" than do the British ones. Basically more letters are "shared" between two or more words, so it's essentially possible to complete an American style crossword by only completing about half the clues.
And there is either clever editing in play here, or he has some kind of superhuman ability with his hands. I'm honestly more inclined to believe the former.

thanx wired, for showing me that my skills in crossword puzzles are completely pathetic. i love to do them, but this guy makes me look like a sped with a fat tipped sharpie
It would be way more impressive if he completed the SUNDAY NY Times crossword puzzle in less than 2.5 minutes. Heck, *I* can complete the Monday one. I don't doubt that he's a puzzle whiz, but this isn't the best proof.
great vid and your really fast, sorry the only thing that annoys me is your hand writing is quite sloppy but yeah writing and thinking in high speeds really has an affect on someones handwriting. :P

If he is so talented as in "genius" for doing crossword under 5 min. Then he should be as smart as Einstein. But he isnt, if he is like Einstein smart, he would be everywhere across the media.
did he run a marathon before doing this

Writing and thinking does have an effect on the penmenship. The worse the penmenship, probably, the faster you think, I don't know.
By the way, I looked this up because I was reading an article in Wired.

If you were just a teeny-weeny bit smarter, just like a pigeon-turd smidge, that analogy would have had at least some kind of meaning.
Yikes.
Alas.
