Does anyone remeber the name of that viral video of some dude hitting one power note. It looked like the video was shot in the 80's with very poor video quality. It looked like a local news station try out or something. He was dressed kinda like Motely Crue, Axl Rose style get-up.And I swear it looked as if he stuffed(but what rocker didn't back then). The video was hella funny, cause his power note started low into a high falsetto yell. Can anyone help me? I've been driving myself crazy looking
@GoodGuitarSolos Oh! GGS, I didn't get the full address, can u send it to me again. HEY! what about Freddie Mercury and David Bowie singing under pressure, or am I hitting way left field with that one?
@Cuishi10 OH WAIT! I just realized youtube won't let u post the full address, can u go to my youtube page and leave it in my comments? or send me a personal message even, either is light =) Thank You...
Question, though I'm not sure if anyone can answer it: If you can hit nearly all the notes of a certain singer, and your singing voice sounds nearly identical to theirs, does that mean you're both in the same range? Chester is a tenor, and I can hit nearly all of his notes (until the A2 he pulls in "Leave Out All the Rest"), but according to my upper range (F6), I'm dramatic mezzo soprano. Problem is that so is Amy Lee (Evanescence), and I can't sing her songs in her range worth crap. Help plz?
@Sunajeshsja Range doesn't tell much about one's voice type. You could very well be an alto, but even so your range doesn't tell what your voice type is. You could try recording few clips, I could try to help you.
@GoodGuitarSolos Oh, you have no idea how much I'd love to do that, but I have no way of doing it, nor the money to buy the equipment. Also, I had the feeling that would be the answer. I say tenor, a friend says barytone martin, someone else says dramatic mezzo, but then I listen to these clips of baritones and tenors hitting these notes, and I have a deeper singing voice than some of the baritones! Conversely, some of the high tenors have deeper voices than mine. LOL, it's confusing.
Most of you wont know this band, Alter Bridge. It's one of my favorites. In one of their songs called 'Words Darker Than Their Wings', vocalist Myles Kennedy hits an extremely high note at the end. I hope you will like it.
@Kwwwyjibo That one is non-modal note, meaning a note that isn't connected to chest (hence not being full). I wouldn't quite call it falsetto, but it isn't full, like falsetto.
Believe it or not Daltry does the same thing on Wont Get Fooled Again. That's why you can't tell what note it is. It's a blown head voice. I love that technique! It can flow pretty seamlessly from screamed chest.
Dave Padden's B4 was actually a type of pitched voice fry scream. I call it a blown out scream. The fundamental frequncy you hear is actually a head voice note. Hear those windy overtones and fry undertones? Pay attention to the cutoff too. The B is gone there. Phil Anselmo uses this a lot. I think it killed his clean head voice. Randy Blythe uses a similar trick (and confuses a lot of aspiring screamers with it) throughout the Wrath album.
Great list, I love listening to singers fuckin' wail! But it's missing some great singers like David Coverdale, Don Dokken, Kip Winger and Michael Matijevic! If you don't know them, check them out, they are insane - especially Matijevic's range!
Gotta say man, I love your lists and vocal range series - there's a great selection from all over the rock/metal spectrum.
Awesomely, the lead singer of my favourite band has the highest full voice note in the entire list. What's even more amazing is that that A5 was hit when he had ruptured vocal chords and was about 8 years past what is considered his vocal prime.
Also that Lost Horizon bit is freaking awesome, such a great melody even without all the face-melting high notes!
@rockisntdeadyet yep i have a big fucking mouth , but i say what i think of course you can disagree with me , trust me i'm into voices and it has been all my life, most of this guys , have a great voice , but how many of them made it?? you can get as high as they want ,but it's all the same generic shit, why do you see guys like Axl Rose making millions of dollars ? charisma originality ,great stage, there's millions of singers in the world but how many are worth listening to them?
@markeesdeath He was going to be here at first but the info box couldn't hold any more singers, sadly... If I make part two, he will most likely be there!
dont know who dave padden is. but i know that there is not distortion on his voice. other way around. with distortion you get less of a tone and more of a blended white noise.. you can for sure tell by how he ends his scream. enjoyed the compilation
wow dude, you completely left out one of the most rockin' high note hitters King Diamonbd, what about - Mike Majestic (Steelheart)... Some of these you chose were made possible by bs effects, some are good evaluations... Don't forget about the chick Linda from 4 Non Blondes, Gary Cherone (Extreme), AND FOR GOD'S SAKES WHY DIDN'T YOU MENTION GEOFF TATE (QUEENSRYCHE)???
...and I thought I was the only person who knew about that Annihilator song.... But I'm not sure if That or Chester's scream count as high notes. And last, I think People don't put enough of Phil's Singing Moments after Cowboys from hell in videos.
@Spydrfish Not sure about Annihilator-song but Chester's scream is amazing showcase of sustained high note, immense power!
Phil was always a good singer but his Cowboys from Hell-era singing was superior to his later work, imo. Songs like "Shattered" and "Medicine Man" were just insane...
I'd love to see a video about Corey Taylor and Chester's vocal range

Hey does Roger Daltrey hit a full C6 on Won't get fooled again, or is it some falsettish technique?

Wow of all of Chris Cornell's work you chose the shittiest example?
Why not use Hello 2 Heaven, or Beyond the Wheel, or even Smokestack Lightning?
He's better than most of the singers on here.
JoeSidhu 10 months ago
@JoeSidhu Wow, you actually bothered to comment?
Almost all of the Cornell-fans have heard those notes already, I chose another note which is more unfamiliar. And shitty example? Fuck me, idiot.
If you want to hear those notes you mentioned, check out Cornell's vocal range video and stop weeping.

@rockisntdeadyet 1. Mike Patton's note was impressive, no matter what you think about it.

3. Prince's note was definitely falsetto.
