I remember how much my sister and I loved Sacred by the Castells We were 12 and 14. And then this came out and I don't think anything was more beautiful at the time. It takes me back to sweet, innocent times that are actually the very best times.
Those were the National Billboard Charts where it reached #21. It was much bigger regionally on the east coast, particularly the NYC area & Philadelphia. Superb sound on this video by the way.
Looking at the cover, this is how guys used to look and dress. A trip back in time. Just one beautiful song regardless of your style. I was fortunate to have grown up during the era.
What a beautiful song! I was only a little girl back in the early 60's and I was just too young to remember that period. I didn't hear this on the radio until 1993 on a Saturday night oldies show on New Jersey 101.5 (one of the local radio stations).
But I'd rather listen to this music than all of this junk that's out today. In fact, while I was going to get my monthly bus pass, I heard one of those horrible rap songs blaring from a car radio, with the M word coming out!
Beautiful song and memory from my childhood. I hear this and I picture my dad in front of my childhood home washing his 1960 Chavey impala as me and my brothers would help him. What a wonderful time we had growing up in 1960's Los Angeles.
You people who have an issue with the girl.... what is wrong with you? It's a pretty song- she's a pretty girl....Who cares if the "times" don't match.. kenzeetwo- take down the stupid cars and put the girls back...my gosh- no wonder this country is so screwed up!
What this girls photos have to do with the song...Well its personal. I'm a photographer of 35 years and I was in love with this beautiful young oriental lady from the moment I set eyes on her. For me "This Is Love, Real Love". It's too bad she didn't see it that way.
I'm really sorry if this offended you in any way. I received a few negative comments about my other picture videos with models, so my last 100 posts has photos of old cars.
@Kenzeetwo No offense but what does this young girl have to do with this song.
And no they are not currently playing, because my father died in 1998. I wish he had known how much people loved their music. He continued to play in small bands locally in northern california, under the name Dean Roberts sometimes, in the band DIamond 3. R.I.P. Robert Ussery, Love you Daddy
This group from Santa Rosa,California entered the recording business in 1961 and had their first hit with "Sacred" which became a national Hit. It was followed by "So this Love" in April 1962 and it also became a hit record and one of my favorites from an era where slow dancing was a special thing. The Castells had a few more recordings but they never became headliners even though the group had all of the ingredients to be more successful. Competition was tought!
1962.......what a thrill to dance to this with that someone special....remember? So sad kids today will never know the real feelings of that first love...first dance
This song is celestial. I long for this time of innocence, long gone to commercialized, sluttish, lyrics, beats and in-your- face garbage, all done in the name of "reality".
As a single in Billboard this song was pretty much equal to "Sacred". Sacred peaked at #20 with a 12-wk run in 1961, STIL peaked at #21 with a 13-wk run in 1962. Perhaps it's already been mentioned, but Chuck Girard was later with the Hondells and subsequently recorded Christian music.
@kenzeetwo: Have you ever noticed how '50's radion on XM often plays songs that were in the 60's. It bothers me, because it's so unnecessary......and it's wrong.

kenzeetwo...rarely do I offer any negative feedback but I must for this video. First, thank you for the post...one of my all time favorite songs/groups. She is attractive, but not an early 60's lady...doesn't dress like the beautiful young ladies did then...and forget the shoes she is wearing! I went to tons of Friday night dances then...worked after school and on weekends in a luncheonette. This lady is attractive but I'll take the gals of this era...please continue the great song posts.
@tunesmith09: Right on, brother!.....the natural and seemingly pure look of the late '50's to mid '60's ladies was amazing....I knew a number of them, and of course wish I'd known more.....had cutouts of some on my bulkhead during my sailor years.....even as we speak, we imagine those ladies have never changed......the best kind of memories, and songs like this make all timeless.
@toddwindyhill I know that this site is not a blog, but may I please respectfully say thank you for your service to our country? I was never in the military, but my late brother served in the Army in Korea during the era of this song...and my late Dad served in the Army under General Patton during the Normandy Invasion...thankfully made it home safely. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours and all those who visit this awesome song by the Castells...Tunesmith
@tunesmith09 I thought the same thing...she looks (no offence indeed) like a mexican female that should be at a auto show next to a modified Honda of some sorts. I never got the Asian modifcation of small engine cars. I along the line of my father Live for Chevy!
What a beautiful song. I had the chance to see this group perform in person at a concert in NJ and they sounded wonderful. Thanks for posting it for all of us to enjoy.
In the Fall of 1971, it was so plain to see we were really in love........real love......for her and for me.......Not long before, the sea, the stars and the moon was all I saw, but did dream of what I found........."so this is love"...........
great make-out song.. LOL showing my age

Turning 17 in 1962, the music that year was awful, I'll admit.
This is an exception!!!!

No, the Lettermen and the Castells had concurrent hits. More likely both groups were inspired by the Four Freshmen.
