  • This truck could be a 02 or 03. This truck here has no cat or other emission on to the engine. 01, 02 and 03 are the first generation of the duramax and has not even 1 emission onto it. Thats why the 1st generation of the duramax are the best in mileage and performance.

  • Try getting the overfueling fixed on it to give you more power. All that black smoke is the extra diesel that is not being used. You are putting too much in each cylinder and the only way to use it all is make each cylinder bigger. Unless you do that there is no advantage in pumping in diesel to such an excess. You damage the engine, EGR, CAT and DPF together with clogging up the turbo and manifold with all that soot. Fix it and see an immediate gain in MPG and performance.

    SMOKE=BROKE.

  • @urbex2007 That was true with 20 year old diesel technology. It's not true with modern diesels. The modification (simple programmer) gave me 2mpg better fuel economy, and a significant jump in power over stock. And my truck didn't have and EGR, CAT, or DPF. EGR's and CAT's weren't put in duramax trucks until 05, and DPF's weren't until '07. I couldn't have had a more open intake or exhaust to allow my engine to get more air to produce less smoke. Free flowing 4" intake and 5" exhaust.

  • @urbex2007 Lol notice how as soon as he takes off, the smoke cleans up? Once the turbo lights it can supply the necessary air to offset the excess fuel. You don't have to make the cylinder bigger, you just need to stuff more air in it...

  • and so theres no confusion, i like all 3 brands of diesels, and had the prices been right i woulda bought the cummins or powerstroke, but the new fords really have nothing going for them, yeah they look bad ass, but all 3 brands have theyre ups and downs, to me ford just aint makin it right now, now the 6.7 scorpion may change my opinion.....but we'll have to wait and see

  • i like fords but in all honesty they havent had a good engine since the 7.3, the 6.0s were time bombs waitin to go off, the new duramax was tested against the 6.7 and 6.4 diesels out now and the duramax not only had the best 1/4 mile times but the best mpg, it takes ford 2 turbos to do what chevy and dodge can do with just one turbo, i like all diesels but ford has gone downhill every year since they lost the 7.3, i have a lb7 and i test drove all 3 makes of diesels, but in all reality 6.4s suck

  • @earct um i guess thats why my buds dodge 3500 could not pull 24FT BOXED TRAILER LOADED WITH CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT UP HILLS OVER 35MPH, HE CALL ANOTHER BUD with a 2001 2500 duramax and he pulled it just fine.also duramax wins most races and sled pulls, also duramax has won most of the diesel power challenges. Im not a fan boy by anymeans i love them all even 6.0ps is good wth ltl work.cummins is a great engine and so is the duramax and we will need to see what fords new engine will do in time

  • Yes Ford ditched international. There new motor is detuned to todays standards for emissions. Take of the DPF, if you even know what that is and the motor is a banshee with a spartan or SCT tuner. Dodge has no money and their new 6.7s are garbage, there old 5.9 was a beast, but its discontinued due to emissions.

    Chevys only weigh 7,000lbs, if I took my 9,200lb ford and took it down to that weight I would smoke any tuned chevy with a stock ford at that weight.

    I got my FORD 6.4 tuned by spartan diesel with extra 310hp/ 650tq. Total of 585hp and 1175tq. I can smoke my tires to the rim and I dont need a pussy power brake to do it. Chevy Trucks have a chevy LUV front end with S10 tie rods, just look under your "truck". You'd need $5000 worth of shit to get what I got with $1500. For $5000 you'd never keep up with me. EVER ,not even in your dreams.

  • I'm not calling you a liar, but you might want to double check that by hand calculating you next tank. My friend has an '03 and his computer said he was getting 30mpg after chipping it.  Turns out he was getting just over 20mpg (still pretty darn good).

  • I think u need to check the weight inside your empty ass head. Just weighed an ext. cab dmax and an ext. cab cummins. Dmax weighed 400lbs heavy with both trucks empty and the dodge had 35's and the gm had 265's.

  • i was in my buddies 99 cummins with an 8inch lift on 38s but im not saying this just to piss u off but he loves the engine but the truck is bad and he changed every thing on the truck lol becuase what ever broke he put after market and he changed everything only this stock lol frame every thing else broke he needed new axels gears fix his tranny 2 times now its crazy and the funny thing is its only got like 380hp so i dont now man

  • that shit happens though and some trucks just suck. I worked for a landscape company that had all brand new duramax's. they blew the allison's out of 2, and major engine repairs in the majority of them. I understand that is a good trans for the duramax but it all depends on the truck and the owner. I also know a 2000 cummins that had the factory trans rebuilt at 250,000 and hes been plowing the dealership with it for 4 years.

  • my duramax has 400,000km on it now and the only thing i changed was the injectors and tires everything else is like new and still going strong!!

  • hey, what kind of mileage do you get with the edge?

  • It's a Predator tuner by Diablosport. I get about 20mpg on the hwy and 17 in the city. I've gotten 23mpg once and 14mpg.

  • the thing with edge is that if it senses that the tranny is slipping it will defuel the truck so it wont put the transmission in limp mode.

  • I thought edge only defueled when you hit your set egt temp.

  • edge monitors both transmission and egt, it will cut the tune if you go over i think its 1500 degree egts, and if the tranny slips it will defuel the truck, just build a tranny and its all good ha!

  • I have an allison. The only auto transmission you can get is an allison. My truck will a lot faster then 80, but going fast isn't what messes it up. Try putting a hot tune on the truck and running it hard. Eventually it will go to limp mode. After you limp it once, it's on the path to a new trans ($8000 I don't have).

  • I've got an '03 dmax/allison with a 5 stage Edge Juice Attitude, K&N cold air, 4" Magnaflow... I keep it on stage 5. (Not positive but believe that's the 100hp/240ft lb setting). As long as you aren't towing on that setting... you shouldn't have any problems. I've had it on there 125,000 miles and I always drive it like a stole it. It's as close as you are gonna get to a bulletproof auto from the factory.

  • not true i have a 04 duramax with a tuner mod and some other shit i also installed a waisegate PPE boost increaser i now run 47PSI of boost at 4,000 rpm used a boost meter to read it on a stock turbo

  • no you dont. a stock turbo will blow up at that pressure. AND the ppe boost increaser will only give 40psi.

  • the compressor wheel would destroy itself at that pressure in the dmax and even if you could hit that pressure the heads would probably lift clean off the block

  • Yeah. It made no smoke before I put on the Predator. Your Cummins should smoke like crazy with a Predator. Most Cummins' do. My friend just bought an '01 Cummins and is looking at the Power Puck. He uses it for work so he doesn't want to do anything too crazy to it.

  • Some diesels have particulate filters on the exhaust- they clog if to smokey, am I correct in assuming your exhaust has no filter/ catalyst thingy ( thats a technical term . lol.). Love the sound, love the smoke.

  • 07.5 and up have DPF's (diesel particulate filter) smoke is fun and its not that hard to see unless you have a poorly adjusted 12 valve in front of you (;] haha keep on smokin boys) depends on where you live and how much of dicks the cops around you are, and if you have a tailwind thats powerful enough to push that smoke infront of you as your moving i think the wind will throw you off the road before the smoke makes you drive there haha

  • Too bad stock turbo's only go to 24lbs unless you put a boost stick on. In which case, a stock turbo blows up at 33lbs.
