  • /I was waiting for that to break

  • wow goodjob dude!

  • You sir, are an origami visionary.

  • This is FANTASTIC! How can I make one or order one? Email me at CatherineTodd2 at gmail

  • How did he fold that

  • While the practicality is questionable, the engineering is brilliant. How did you design that? Computer program? good old fashioned math? Trial and error? All of the above? Do you do origami?

  • I think chuck norris just got confused.

  • how do you build that? i need to make a cardboard chair for a school project.

  • how do you build that? i need to make a cardboard chair for a school project.

  • cardboard origami?wow!

  • sooo cool :)

  • i would also like to try and make this any instructions or tutoreal video?

  • yea 1 question, are you jackie chan's brother =|

    lmao

  • @sleepy352 ahhh you're soo close...Bruce Lee's...yeah easy to confuse.

  • how can i get folding instructions?

  • yes how?

  • Great design, but... I'd need a reversed one suitable for a Leftorium.

  • me: "OMG! MOM COME LOOK AT THIS!"

my mom: "soo........look, Im late blah blah blah"

  • origami at its finest xDDD

  • where can i get this design?

how did you go about it?

  • THAT IS FREAKING AWESOME, how big was the sheet of cardboard?

  • 86" by 60" if my memory serves me correctly.

  • @dannykim8379 I read that in Chairman Kaga's voice.

  • hay dude that was totaly cool. can you give me the design on how to make this cool chair.

  • OMG how do it make it?!

  • I have to do this project this semester... mine has to turn into a desk from a chair, and then fold up somehow and be portable. And this year it has to be modular. fkyeeeah

  • YA RISD.....im going to pre coll this sumer there, is this for the ID summer thing?

  • do it! have fun! say no to hard drugs.

  • haha what about light drugs?

  • @nnerf1 vaporize em

  • that is reasonable response.

  • @SobeFILMS no only a certain 3D class in foundation studies

  • Double-U Tee Eff !!!

  • can u please send me plans?!?!?

  • man that was awesome, i wish i had the chair plans. good job

  • oh god. get rid of this before my cheap-ass school starts to use theese!

  • @Uninvited1995 hahahahaha what a school...

  • WTF is the point of posting this, if there is now information on how to reproduce it?

  • Just try and make you own. it's pretty fun.

  • how big of a sheet of cardboard and how do you fold it i want to try to make one

  • KO: u9v7'[8ahweiwpmj9na cool!!, but how?

  • how did you do this design i can see only for a second all the folds in there.

  • Lol...cheap sits!! lol nice idea for a big party

  • fantastic!

  • i dont believe this...

  • we should give these out to homeless people so they dont have to be drunk laying down like dead people in parks, this way they can be drunk and look like they fell asleep on a chair & people wont think there drunk cuz they have enough balence to sit on the chair but the 14 inch dildo in the middle of the chair should keep them upright.

  • cmon man thing of something that will stop the homless issue and not encourage it

  • O.K. Euthanasia.

  • origami!

  • That's amazing!! I wish I could figure this out, good job!

  • never mind

  • i weigh alot more than that guy will that chair support me if so please send me the instructions.

  • wooow wooow inzane that's brilliant any site where u post how to do it,

    man that's so cool.

  • Now when you say the chair is sustainable, you´re trying to appeal to the green ecologists, you´re slagging of the word. It is made from paper, which comes from trees. If it is made out of recyclable paper, then how many people would need it? It could be used in doors only. As wet paper becomes flimsy and weak. Great design, but bad idea.

  • Agreed. Please do not confuse "sustainable" with "made from recycled materials".

  • Wrong...

My friend have you ever heard of aqua resin?

Or polyurithane if you want your dest to be a fag about its curing temp....

  • Wow, it's an exceptional job, congratulations, very creative.

  • amazing man, in Mexico city in the U.N.A.M,students of engineer have made one chair like yours.

  • wow, amazing

  • homeless mans dream!

  • lol...........what i was thinking...

  • oh come on give us a tutorial, not all of us are designers, some of us just want to live a bit more sustainably

  • If only you could make a pc out of that.

  • Hey Danny, cool job with sitting device! But what do you mean by sustainability? How long does it last before torn? How much energy does it take to make cardboard and reuse it? If you make a chair in wood, isn't it more sustainable than paper?!

If you would make this device in plastic I would call it sustainable since it won't break, you use very little material and it is reusable.

  • It takes around three weeks of heavy use for it to lose integrity. But you can make this chair out of corrugated plastic sheets and that will last years i have friend who tried this.

  • looking at it from a life-cycle analysis, total embodied energy, Downcycle/upcycle, re-appropriated material, biomimic, or Socially sustainable perspective. The Chair is not sustainable, this computer is not sustainable, your hybrid is not sustainable, neither is your bamboo spork. But inspiration is and that is systemic.

  • For me inspiration is a precedent of sustainability. Inspiration derived from simplicity, accountability, and humanity. With out inspiration we are stuck in this very, very large mess the previous generation left us. It is the whole we have to think about. Inspiration is a systemic trigger.

  • Yes, good answers :-)

However, why call it sustainable if it is not? That is what you have chosen as name for the project...

It is not really fair to compare with a computer or car since they include a lot of stuff you don't need for a chair. Inspiration however, that is another thing!

  • To answer your first question a true sustainable chair is one made with organic materials, manufactured with no heat or manufactured chemicals, zero impact on "disposal", and provides multiple natural habitats to it's surroundings. We call that a fallen tree chair or a stone chair. a.k.a. fallen log and a stone. Thank you for your helpful comments.

  • Awesome. You'll go far!

  • Can you show the creases? and how do you make them? Thanks!

  • Hey Cool fez to make the creases I just used the plastic handle end of a box knife and a drywall T-square ruler.

  • ok cool. Thanks

ALso where did you find the cardboard? I've been looking online but most are really expensive. How much is one of those boards?

  • A store near my sold sheets for about five bucks. I only used about 7 sheets all together. You will need at least 10 sheets it was the best intro experience into design I have ever had and could wish for.

  • I see this on youtube, where do I email you?

  • .... how do you make it?

  • Now that was cool.

  • wow! that's genius

  • Epic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fuck yea

  • Holy shit that was sleek! What facet design are you in? Good design and I bet there was lots of test runs eh?

  • Systemic Transportation design focused on Vehicle Architecture sustainability. I just finished an internship at Squid labs.

  • would be kool if it was made out of some synthetic bullet proof material .. having the creases made a lil more permanent id buy one

  • I can imagine seeing this being sold somewere for 100$...haha

  • Thanks! I got the idea of making that kind of a chair from your video. Every one else in my class used glue and multiple sheets. Thanks for the idea!

  • Happy to inspire you! I would love to see your chair take a video of it and make a video response. DK

  • man how did you do that?... i spent 2 weeks making something to sit on for my 3-d class and my shit still can't support my weight, gave up on it. we could cut, glue, use as many pieces as possible, but i tried to got for an aesthetic designed that sucked balls when it comes to functioning properly.

  • funny you mention comfort it was like sitting in a folding lawn chair.

  • dont listen hes just trying to be negative

  • that looked comfortable, man. idk what you're talking about

  • umm... did you read? "dynamic load of 180lbs"

that counts as durability, bro. and since when has cardboard been sharp and more than just rough at the edges?

  • how much is it? 2 bucks :D lol

  • i have to make a cardboard chair for my 3d art class...i hope i can pull this off...how long was your peice of cardboard??

  • ...So it qualifies as sustainable technology>?

  • Well if you look at the embodied energy, carbon footprint, and manufacturing process compared to steel, fabric, and plastic. Then yes, Also this chair with an integrated desk that supports up to 190 lbs bonded with no substrates other than the gravity of you weight is totally biodegradable and is on of the few materials that can be up-cycled with very little heat.

  • Up-cycled? Have you read cradle to cradle then? :) Pretty good book, and yes you have a point, from those and other angles its more sustainable. I don't think it would work well on a mass scale - its still a piece of cardboard. I know how rough I am on what I have now, and if I had a cardboard chair, the number of times I replace it would probably equal the carbon off of the one I have.

  • Beautiful

  • wow they should name it "the hobo"

  • I think I should drop graphic arts for a while and take up engineering :)

  • Origami LOL

  • What happens if you poor some water on that? LOL

  • haha it's sorta like origami(sp?)

  • dat's cool :)

  • I just got this sample of a polycarbonate panel that has a fluted (corrugated) inside, and it is amazingly sturdy, and about as stiff as 1/4 inch plywood, but it can be creased and folded. If you have a pattern for your chair, I would love to try it with this stuff.

  • wow we have this project right now! the problem is the chair needs to be at least 16" high from ground and have a 15" back rest, and heres the thing you should be able to disassemble the chair in 3 mins. and all parts should fit in a 12x12x4" box think its easy? hehe try it

  • Very nicely done!

Have you considered making a version out of coroplast (fluted polypropylene)? It is very similar to working with cardboard except much more durable for folding and refolding and it is waterproof. I make boats out of it.

  • That was so cool! Have you tested it to see how much weight it can hold?

  • u got it harder then we do im working on mine but we can use tabs but also no glue

  • when are you making the tutorial

  • I am going to remake a video on the process of the chair. I decided to not make a tutorial, because it weakens the exploration of the design process. But please stay tuned, message me with any questions.

  • Yessss!! No More Sitting On Dirty NYC Subway Benches, Yuck!!!!!

  • who the hell are u?!?!?!?

  • I'm batman...

  • LOL! hahaha

  • damn thats bomb

  • this needs a tutorial

  • coming july! promise!

  • cool

  • YAY!!!

  • i need the tut by august 10th...its freakin august already! wheres the tut!!!!

  • rofl, that is awesome, mad props

  • Hi!

please i need u help! because, My teacher command us to make your chair. I ask, if you have or you can give me 1 Instructive for do it.

  • Oragami for the bored university engineering student without a chair.

  • Hey Men... Im doing that for a class... I figure it out to made ir, the cair its perfect and I can sit on it... BUT... I can figure it out how you make the thing to put your arm... I have tried many different way but what is the thing that pop out when you stand up???

  • Can I get the instructions to make that?

  • *coughs*

  • I watched it backwards!

  • how?

  • HOLY FUCK

  • YES! I look forward to the video! Subscribed

    !

  • Very impresive and i hope to see more

  • u should make a video on how to make it

  • Okay, okay, I do it. but only because I like you name.

  • man please the instructions for the chair i need for my class for i am going o failed

  • so i fold this bit over this flap, and then put this one under here......"scratching head" why's my foot stuck in the middle.....something went wrong somewhre

  • can i make it into a toilet?

  • True "ori-gomi" in a positive light! ("Ori-gomi" is what some people call their failed origami attempts!) LOL!

  • what are the instructions? THAT IS SO COOL!

  • That's tight but it looks like it has to be held in place cuz the part under the arm unfolds when he lifts his arm.

  • Actually it is held in place when I sit in it. The anchoring tab is compressed between two layers next to my hip. Which is why it pops out when you get up.

  • now THAT is what i call origami

  • hey on that picture you look like jackie chan xD heheh. buthow did u figger it out (to build a chair). i cant make a chair from legos xD

  • I used my noodle.

  • that should so be used in schools

  • Well, I am using this creative process to help the Cartonistas in Argentina to create products marketable for profit.

  • whoa!! major origami

  • Nah-uh! Majority Creativity.

  • Very cool. Studio is always fun b/c you can experiment and stuff. Not like the real world. Bleh.

  • You're a bboy also? That's freakin' awesome.

  • it woudnt hold mee xD (the chair not a asian dude xD )

  • Actually I used to bench 220lbs So I might be able to. Yo!

  • all it is, is oversized origomey
