  • W O W. That is all

  • stupid camera set, why dont you show HIS HANDS????????????

  • WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE SONG???

  • Incredible...

  • the scary thing is that he meant to play every single note that was played

  • So fast he actually found it funny! Great playing. Thanks for uploading, I'd never heard of him. Despite being a pianist. -_- Shame on me.

  • who are the 175 retards?

  • Sad to see a lot of stupid critics out here but yeh ima say it once more, it aint too fast, it aint too slow, it jazz. some ppl jus dont understand and will never do

  • @KievanTiger

Hey kevin i belive you are wrong in ways if its played this well then it is i would like to see you post a video playing this, are atleast attempting then tell me what you think. This is no doubt in its own right the best.

  • I have not the words to say but wooooooooooooow

  • A CANADIAN WHO KNOWS HIS WAY AROUND A KEYBOARD

  • why are there two bassists?

  • @wildsnydon Having played classic trio jazz with each of the 2 gentleman (NHØP & Ray Brown) since the 50´s, I guess that Oscar at this point in his carrier wanted to experiment with the trio-form. Click the link below the screen to see how it works out, or search for the very beautiful song "You look good to me" from the same show. Cheers

  • @perchst - he didn't play with NHOP in the 50's, only Ray. Oscar's tenure with NHOP began in earnest in 1973

  • @sargea1

    I know :-)

I meant to say first with Ray and then later with Niels Henning :-)

  • @wildsnydon - as far as I know, NHOP was there performing with Oscar, and Ray Brown was there accompanying at least one other artist (possibly Monty Alexander). Given that Ray was Oscar's former bassist and his close friend, they decided to all play together. It's all completely spontaneous and un-arranged

  • @wildsnydon Why not? ;)

  • @KievanTiger Just thinking that having a diskussion about who is the better or worse is wrong, there can be no such thing in music

  • He is good but it just sounds like fast scales to me. You want to hear a REAL piano solo search Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson and so many others.

  • @SuperSwineSlayer

and if you'd asked them they will all say they worship the great Oscar Peterson -.-

  • @SuperSwineSlayer - Keith Emerson? No disrespect to EL&P, but seriously?

  • @KievanTiger the title is Amazing fast piano solo :-)

  • @KievanTiger

    /watch?v=PUWW-07fVYo&feature=related

  • @KievanTiger You should check out some of his other stuff.....For instance one of the greatest piano trio albums of all time: "Night Train". On this album it´s all about beautiful laid back crunchy smoothness.....He was about so much more than just speed.

  • NHOP was really impressed in this video at 0:31. therefore anyone should be impressed by this video. i am.

  • MEGA HANDS !

  • Amazing FAT piano solo? (ahahah only kidding! :)

  • durh... he good on pianoo

  • It's funny how the band's reactions say, "good luck keeping up tempo with that!"

  • Can anyone tell me where to find the complete version of this genius work?

  • @cobidelft link is in more info....

  • @perchst Yes, I found out myself, stupid me. But thank you anyway!

  • OMG!! "Sweet Georgia Brown" way up tempo, and Oscar is schooling us all in how to play it.! Gotta love both bass players' reactions, just shakin' their heads in amazement. Oh...this roxx, man. Thanks for the post!

  • Amazing!!! Very, very b eautiful!!! Thank you for posting it!!!

  • Sure wish I could have seen his amazing finger work. Saw this man live with Joe Pass and Ella many years ago - the hall was bulging with the talent of these three.

  • He is litterly talking to his piano !

  • just shoows jazz piano songs are for those who couldnt do classical music

  • Keith Emerson STOLE from this man!!!!!

  • The man had skills. Whether or not he was the equal of Art Tatum, this was truly sweet. amazing!- too bad it was curtailed here.

  • Pure gold ,Love this guy .

  • Many people would think this is fast but hasn't any meaning or musical context. Well, no shit. It's because they can't listen to a particular genre of music that they make such ignorant comments. Often, one who knows how to listen a particular genre of music will not rant like that at great artists of that genre.

If you REALLY think it sucks, after listening to MUCH jazz music, then I can respect your opinion. If not, shut the fuck up and like a Lady Gaga video.

  • Did the cameraman hat him not to show his fingers or what?! >:-(

  • This isn't all that musical or melodically pleasing.

  • Oh my. All I can say! Wonderful... Thanks for posting,as well as for putting up the link for the full version. Excuse me, I have to go back and watch this again...

  • its fast , but it sucks .

  • @chanlongching666 It doesnt sound like anything .

  • NO IT AINT THE GREATEST SOLO PIANO EVER IMO

  • @afertyus1000 listen to the whole vid lammo it is super fast in the end plus if you can't

play it shut up ( i am Advance level and even i can't play it so you have no right to say it is bad unless you can play it )

  • @chanlongching666 i have listened to it and when has speed got to do with being the greatest solo ever??? i am a concert pianist, but beside that i have heard far better imo so you shut up,i can criticize what i like it doesn't mean you have to be able toplay it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @afertyus1000 lammo it didn't said it was the greatest solo or whatever just look at the tittle omg it says amazing fast piano solo xD what a nob

  • @chanlongching666 no you dickhead if you read the comment he made about the title before when he said it was the greatest,i was commenting on that, and what is 'lammo' anyway?? get your facts right

  • @afertyus1000 Sir, yes, the "greatest piano solo ever" simply depends on personal taste. Didn't you even read the title? It simply says "Amazing fast piano solo". Read the title before making violent outbursts and unethical declarations.

And, I agree, this solo is pretty amazing and challenging. Oscar Peterson is lauded as one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time, so it's quite hard declaring that there are many better than him.

Fix your head up instead of making it a battering ram.

  • @Santosificationable Sir, i was reading BELOw the video as well on the owners previous comments and commenting on THAT so take you head out of your backside and open your eyes, how ironic your statement was

  • @afertyus1000 Owner's previous comments? BUT the owner already ADMITTED it being subjective to who listens to it. Art is, generally, subjective (or based on one's own opinion), after all.

What kind of a RANT is that? Read what the video is ABOUT first before going on crying like a baby about something that you wanted to COMPLAIN ABOUT, but weren't ABLE to due to the fact that THINGS HAVE CHANGED.

But yeah, you say "not the greatest piano solo ever IMO". Leave it at that.

  • @Santosificationable I have left it at that?

  • @afertyus1000 You said you think this wasn't the greatest. Okay and let's both shut up.

  • @Santosificationable ok i agree.good call

  • @afertyus1000 mmmmmmm mr smart ass it says the video used to be called plz watch your tense and used to means not now xD

  • @afertyus1000 also lammo means another same meaning with lmao

  • @chanlongching666 Urusai yo!

  • stupid camera position!

and its not too so fast as the title says :(

  • He makes me smile!!! Oscar Lives!!!!!!

  • trying to follow his keys is like watching a fly. amazing and talented, but can be tiring if not mixed w/slower pieces. definite LIKE.

  • carl wislow is an amazing piano player

  • Comment removed

  • I think it's slammin!

  • Robin Williams at 0:33 s

  • Two more things: First, big thanks to perchst. You were adult about my comment, and none of this is directed at you. You posted a great vid here, and I'm sorry that it's become tainted with dumb arguing.

Second; You speedheads wouldn't appreciate my music, because it doesn't travel at 500,000,000 notes per minute. I could easily write that kind of stuff, but for WHAT?

Everyone who agrees with me is RIGHT!!! Everyone else is COMPLETELY WRONG!!! I'M RIGHT!!! WINNING - DUH...

  • @BrooklynPerson30000 is it impressive and talented to use speed?

if it had real rythm it would be good but this is plain boring. slower pace makes for a more emotive experience

  • Wow, so much ado over such a basic comment. If I knew this was happening, I'd have stuck around! So much offense taken. Did I reach the core truth? I did not claim to be a better player than this guy. Here's the deal; I'm sick of the fastest stuff being thought of as the 'best'. With American Idol and the like, music has become some sort of sick fitness challenge, and most people don't even percieve meaning or depth anymore. MUSIC IS NOT ONLY ABOUT CHOPS!

  • By the way, don't you EVER tell someone they "don't have a say"; Especially when all you seem to have are simple, trite, cliché remarks.

    Love,

    -BrooklynPerson30000

  • Wow 'macsdestroypcs', you sure told me, haha. You like macs? Figures you'd say something like that :)

OF COURSE I can't do better - almost nobody can. That's not the issue. I'm talking about musical integrity, as opposed to raping ears with self-indulgent, self-important wanking. I compose damn good film music, and play dynamite bass - both of which I focus on emotion and depth, instead of lying to the listener by cramming in an assload of meaningless notes. Understand, mac man?

  • @BrooklynPerson30000 insecure huh

  • Have I been playing too much or do I hear LoL message recieve sound at 0:27?

  • this reminds me of guitar wankers who play fast for the sake of playing fast. woop de doo.

  • @Kaner3339 It reminds you of this because this statement is idiotic.

  • Black: Check

    Asian: /

  • pedersons face at 0:30 priceless

  • One of the biggest regrets in my life is the choice of NOT going to a concert with Oscar Peterson back in 2006, because the tickets were whopping $120 (NOK 600).... I could've seen him live!!!! ARGHH

  • Lightning fast & so incredibly accurate - Oscar Peterson is truly an AMAZING piano player

  • Who cares if this is the best solo or not? Oscar is still the best pianist i've ever heard. Saw him in person in 1961 with Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen. To see him play piano is like watching Buddy Rich play drums or Fred Astaire dancing. The best always make it look effortless!

  • overtly racist people are dicks - no further discussion is neccessary

  • I really like your emotion, you seem to enjoy it so much, I can see the pure happiness radiating there. kudos, brother! :-)

  • You should check out the recording of Joe Pass and Oscar Peterson playing this tune. It's on Joe Pass' Guitar Virtuoso Disc 3. It's burnin'!

  • He's muttering spells! Wizard!

  • that guy looks so happy when he's playing.

    it's fantastic.

  • Too many notes, not enough tune.

  • @Mmmyess its jazz what do you expect. . You need a music lesson

  • Fast? Probably. Sounds like a piece of crap? Definitely. Go listen Ludovico Einaudi instead.

  • @mszigetihu Einaudi? Most of his pieces are all the same, so boring, so repetitive, so banal. I'm not saying that i would do better than him, but he's nothing special.

  • who are the 167 crazy people who dislike this piece of legend??

  • Hi friends, you are invited to enjoy a Beautiful free online master class on the playing of Oscar Peterson. You will LOVE this! Type in "Dave Frank" Oscar on YT.

Topics include Oscar's runs, arrangement techniques, voicing, and much more.

    Blessings from NYC

    Dave Frank

  • @Dfrankjazz Im learning from your great masterclass. Thank you so much. If you want I can make it a videorespond to this video. Cheers.

  • Is that Carl Winslow?

  • This is awesome! So cool seeing the reactions of Ray and NHOP....I love shit like this man.

    Thanks so much for posting.

  • Very impressive, Not that I'm dismissing his hard study and years on the road but this has more than an element of natural propensity for the instrument. RIP big fella.

  • Among Oscars pianistic abilities was the amazing ability to play the same furious runs with either hand. Amazing.

  • Sweet Georgia Brown

  • It is the best piano solo ever, though!

  • I said third movement, not the first. Look it up on Youtube; there's a great video of Wilhelm Kempff performing it.

  • @Gamer2k4 Yeah, I watched all movements from him.

But then why would you want a topnotch jazz pianist to play a classical piece? Are you saying he can't do it technically?

  • Not bad. Now play the third movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata.

  • @Gamer2k4 I don't get it. Why would you want Oscar to play something technically simpler than shown here?

It's like saying to a pianist who has just played the Rach 3, "now play Fur Elise".

  • hahaha I can play slower

  • RICK WAKEMAN

  • @SnakeorScorpion What?

  • @jjfingers type it in and watch his solo

  • @SnakeorScorpion Honestly, what does playing rock fast have to do with Oscar Peterson?

I myself think Oscar's improvisations are much more difficult, Wakeman's is just fast use of all 5 fingers.

  • WOW! You might also like to check out the Jarrod Radnich arrangements on YouTube that show him playing his original arrangement of a medley from Pirates of the Caribbean and the theme from Harry Potter.

  • @MastermindStudios1 yeah, I already watched him, pretty good.

  • must take a lot of confidence in your own music to play that and think that people will enjoy it.

  • Absolutely stunning.....this definitely rivals the speed and grace of Arthur Tatum.

  • EPIC FACE EPIC FACE EPIC FACE JIZZ IN MAIH PANTS!

  • Just see the video I´ve added as a response. Not recomended for the fainted of heart or tone-deaf human beings. Sorry people but.. you can´t beat the masters. Just go and enjoy your basic minded, biased music world. You´re free to do so!

  • @saltmonastery Excuse me, but have you just labelled Jazz as "basic minded"?! Okay, this is getting too far.

First of all, again I say, go study Jazz, or fuck yourself.

Please note that Horowitz, considered among the greatest classical pianists of all time, said to Art Tatum; "I can play as fast as you, but I can't keep up with you!"

We have claims from people like Rachmaninoff saying that Art Tatum is the best pianist ever from any genre. Period.

I challenge you to listen to Tatum's Tiger Rag.

  • @saltmonastery

Oscar Peterson should be at least near Art Tatum's musical capabilities, so he should be about as good as Horowitz or Rachmaninoff. Horowitz is a master of Chopin's mazurkas, yet still, he acknowledged Tatum as the better genius!

Enough of your biased musical views. Please, do us a favor, get out of here and enjoy your "complex music".

I wonder if you said these things to people like Horowitz, who greatly admired even Jazz, hmm?

  • @saltmonastery I ask you to leave, get out of here, and stop disrupting the wonderful music we're hearing from Oscar Peterson with your extremely fucked up favor of Classical as the "superior music".

I admire both these genres, and it's a general consensus that they are comparable in musical complexity (Wikipedia anyone?), so your statements are pretty much utterly flawed.

  • impressive

  • Anyone who criticizes this as "just a random bunch of crap notes" are sadly horribly mistaken.

You probably don't even know about traditional Jazz. You can't understand it. Haha shall I have to translate? "This is not Hanon. This not Mozart. This is different. The scales are different. Here, you generally improvise. What is improvisation? Playing a musical piece your own style by adding or decreasing notes. What is Jazz? It's not Classical".

  • this is crap, with a bunch of random notes, not harmony. crap.

  • @t0psh0tta You are crap.

    Go learn jazz first, please.

  • RIP the greatest Canadian jazz musician.

  • @BrooklynPerson30000

Check out the new title - and also the new "more info".

    greetings

  • @BrooklynPerson30000 Lets see your video then since you know whats best.

  • @BrooklynPerson30000 Everyone has their different opinion of what is the best.

  • @BrooklynPerson30000 Humility is good, clear abou that?

  • @BrooklynPerson30000 Maybe you schould first know what is good music ? and secondo You schould be a bit modest ? cause what you said is just absurd.. .

  • @BrooklynPerson30000 Get clear in your head that "good" is relative. To some he is a hero and to some he is shit and people may be just as pro, but have diffrent points of view.

  • @BrooklynPerson30000 Bullshit. Oscar Peterson was one of the best.

  • @tobyt19 No he wasn't. NO SAYBACKS!

  • @BrooklynPerson30000 Hahaha prove me wrong.

  • @BrooklynPerson30000 Once you can play like that, then you can say that. You are probably a person who doesn't have the technical skills to play fast, so you say that you play with meaning and soul and that's what makes you good. This solo shows virtuosity that you can only dream of.

  • @TheRealrocker74 Oh, how pitifully simple our minds can be... Wow, evidently I stirred up some s**t here - haha... good.

  • @BrooklynPerson30000 I agree with you wholeheartedly. what a stramash

  • @BrooklynPerson30000 Can you do better? If not, you have no say on how good it is.

  • Sorry, but had to block user 8Ho03EdONl1liL for using the word: "Nigger Music" in his recent post.He must have some big issues in his personal life (cause a well balanced person don´t need to talk like this). I wish him all the best and I strongly wish for his personal recovery.

  • @perchst

if you object to certain words being used isn't a tad silly to use them yourself!?

  • @lsbrother Good point :-)

In my view a single word isn´t the problem though. It´s a matter of how they are being used. Im usually not interfering with the comments here, but in respect to my big idol and main source of pianistic inspiration, the great Oscar Peterson, who passed away 3 1/2 years ago and in respect of his family, I feel that I have to remove such comments. I hope you understand.

  • @perchst Check out Nat King Cole's solo in his song "better to be by yourself" I'm sure you will enjoy it.

  • :0

  • After this, I am watching "longest female legs". who's with me?

  • @LORDFUGESS I have to say, people write lol a lot, but I actually laughed out loud at your comment. Their must be some "wild card" aspect to the way those side videos get chosen

  • Lmao, ditto.. @LORDFUGESS

  • how many beats per sec was that? its more livelier than presto

  • @annonimuz2 probably prestisimo then :D (as fast as possible) :D

  • @LLAMASAREFRIENDS ill go with that

  • Wow

  • Isn't that NHOP in the background?

  • @QueenToKingOfSpades yup :-) and Ray Brown

  • Oh, and to the recent debate about classical music not having any soul, I disagree.

Classical definitely has as much soul as Jazz. What matters is HOW YOU TREAT IT. If you are an elitist, nose-high classicist, with a very narrow-minded view of any other music and all you are doing is reading the page, then you're not goin' anywhere.

Mozart, Chopin, Beethoven, is definitely not those.

  • @Santosificationable According to Bill Evans (from the interview with his brother), the word jazz simply means improvised music. And he´s arguing that if this is the case, then Mozart, Chopin, Bach and Beethoven all played jazz, because according to history books, they all improvised in their music. They just didnt have the technology to pass it on, so to preserve their music, they had to just write it down, Jazz and Classical are to sides of the same coin, only with different places in time.

  • @perchst Yeah, it's just that some classical fanboys seem to think being skilled in reading is all that's needed. God, I just wish Bach was alive today.

  • Such guys live with music

    Incredible

  • why the hell are ther soooo many dislikes??? shits me to tears, it is so tallented and amazing...

  • I remeber my first time playing piano....lol jks oscar may u rest in peace you father of all musical awesomeness

  • 15 hes speaking piano

  • this guy is badass

  • Was that sweet georgia brown?

  • I must be confused. This is musically brilliant and technically a marvel. It sounds like he has 6 hands and magic fingers! WOW!

  • @8Ho03EdONl1liL You posted a vid of you playing Chopin? It's not in your profile.

And saying that your computer crashed isn't possible if you really uploaded it, because it's not there. Crashing computers doesn't erase videos from youtube, mister.

  • @Santosificationable Yes, I did post a video of me playing Chopin, but only to shut people up, so I deleted it not long after. I'm not a fan of amateurs posting their videos on here and though my playing was good enough to impress people, it wasn't a great performance. Since my last computer died, I no longer have the video, but as I said before, feel free to believe I can't play a note. BTW, if I wanted to impress people, I'd say I played something harder than that polonaise, mister.

  • @8Ho03EdONl1liL I have a request. Please post a video of yourself playing this.

Until you know enough Jazz, I think making a criticism of one of the world's greatest pianists who ever lived will end up with you being insulted by people like Rachmaninoff.

Fortunately, you finally found out that this is no "easy" shit.

  • @8Ho03EdONl1liL Also, personal opinion, I'd say this is harder than Chopin's Polonaise, technically. Are you sure your hand could survive long enough to sustain all those runs with ease like he did??

  • @Santosificationable how you can even compare Chopin with this person, which is without a doubt a good jazz player, but Chopin was a genius who composed a bulk of piano pieces that clearly overshadowed major artists like Beethoven. Impromptus, Scherzos, Preludes, Etudes, how can you beat that? It´s truly a shallow comparisson, and it´s not that complex, just fasts scales over simple tones, without any sort of elegance. This could be ideal music to see Chaplin moves.... only!!!
