Unboxing the Sound Blaster Tactic3D Sigma

I bought this headset 4 moths ago. Everything is fantastic, sound quality, its very comfortable and so on. But,,, a month ago the cable cover began to crack and the wires comes out. Its very thin so being careful was not enough :/

I've already installed the software and everything but I am unable to hear anything from the headphones themselves, any thoughts? And yes all the cables are intact, and the physical volume control on the cable is at max.

i would recommend the logitech g35 over these, just because the g35s have all the controls attached to the headset and has 3 programmable buttons for whatever you want, example ventrillo or something. Also the mic is retractable and has a red indicator light to tell you when the mic is switched off. it comes with 3 different sized head cushions and the head band is rubberized. the part that changes headband size is also metal like the creative ones. Sound is identical. both use FAKE SURROUND.

@JR262133 ALSO, the cable is really long and BRAIDED super tough. my on;y gripe, would be that it is slightly heavier, but not heavy for headphones this large, especially when you can put a ginormous included head cushion for endless amounts of game-play with no discomfort. i would recommend the wireless version, but they have a micro amount of lag that would turn off the most serious of gamers. ex: ALL COUNTER STRIKE PLAYERS.

i put the headset on my home cinema system but the usb sas no support now i no that it just dont work whit usb it works fine whit the aux input but the costumer where i buyt it sad to me the 3d effect only works if u put it in usb is that true and can u update it or some so my home cinema supports it

the i called up creative, and got told the warranty does not cover acts of god. also the tactic 3d alpha use some cheap plastic, especially the head band feels like they will break very easy. anyways i paid $100 aus dollars for it, dead after a small drop and shit warranty and service. will never buy creative products again.

i had been using the creative tactic 3d alpha, wich is the lower version of this. the sound was ok using analog connected to my sound card. but with the usb i get crackling sound in some games like gta4, and the surround isnt as accurate compare to my sound card. worst of all is their durabillity and warranty, 2 months into use knocked it off from table by accident and it landed on the carpet. no damage on the outside but one of the can didnt work no more.

can i use them on my ps3? well i plugged it in, changed the sound settings to tactic 3d sigma, and when i was going to calibrate them, the ps3 didnt find the mic, and ok, i will ry o use them on black ops, but the sound is coming from my tv, and i cant talk in it.... these are my first headset, and they did cost alot here in Norway, and they dont work, so im pissed off....:*

@juliocesar24 Yes it's virtualization over stereo. The algorithms handle even 7.1 streams and include "elevation filters" which gives a sense of up and down as well.

Another thing I wanted to ask: I have a creative 7.1 inspire speakers and after almost five years of owning them the front left output started to fail (from little sound to no sound at all without cracking), I checked everything and it's definitely the output, do you have any idea what is happening? In my country they don't sell creative speakers anymore and they have always sounded so cool, thanks.

Is the Sigma better than the Zalman 5.1? how much is the difference?

@juliocesar24 Through our years of audio expertise we've opted to go with "surround virtualization" rather than physical drivers that are found in the Zalman (and some other headsets out there). By "tricking" your ears and brain through our advanced algorithms, we're able to achieve a much more realistic surround effect. There's only so much "surround" you can generate by having multiple speakers fractions of an inch away from each other in a chamber. The Sigmas also have massive 50mm drivers.

@wearecreativelabs thank you, the thing is that many headphones that I have bought over the last 15 years, expensive or not, they all sound almost the same, they sound like they are tricking everyone putting low quality mini speakers to it (mass production = less cost). I think I had 2 good stereo ones 7 years ago, a sony and a panasonic, not even the zalman's 5.1 in normal stereo comes close to their quality.

@workshop4life1 That is correct...it is part of the THX TruStudio Pro audio suite. It also includes voice enhancement and morphing tech as well as customizable audio profiles on a per game / per user basis, bass enhancement, and a lot of other features.

@wearecreativelabs My headset eventually cracked and broke on the plastic that connects the earcups. Another question: With sound blaster arena there was an issue in Windows 7 where the audio manager detected it as a stereo device instead of a 5.1 surround system thus no surround worked on games that used windows settings in audio. Was this fixed with the Tactic3D line of headphones?

@299nacho Well Windows 7 defaults to stereo devices due to the changes that were made back in the good ole' Vista days to audio at the OS level. That aside, the Arenas were in fact an actual Stereo device (no gimmicks on the hardware side) but if you went in to your games and selected MULTI CHANNEL OUTPUT at the game software level, the headset software would take all those streams and virtualize over the headset the surround sound. The same goes for THX that comes with the Tactic3D line.

Why is it when i install the drivers, and i try launch the Sound Blaster Tactic(3D) Control Panel then it only keeps taking ram from my pc, but it still won't let me configure anything, it is just stuck...

I'm in the market for a new heaset. I had the Creative Fatal1ty MKII and I loved it, but my nephew broke it. My sound card is a Creative X-Fi Titanium HD and I want something that's going to do it justice, but not cost $250 (i.e. Sennheiser). Would you say the sound is on par with the MKII or better? I will be using it primarily for Aion, though I do listen to alot of music and watch blu-rays on my PC.

@OrRkaz The difference is - alpha has 40mm speaker drivers and a plastic headband, the sigma has 50mm speaker drivers (resulting in a better sound, though perhaps not by much) and a metal headband which should prove more durable.

I've never quite understood the unboxing of different products, why do you need to waste your own time unboxing things, is it to show how dumb people are, that they can't understand the simple principle of opening a box, "Oh, no, a closed box, how am I to ever figure this out?!". I like the review, unboxing just doesn't make any sense. I get it, you have hands to open things with, great, let's move on... Anyway, sigma is a great buy. Cheers !

My girlfriend bought these for me from Fry's the other day, they're actually pretty damn good- I wouldn't say the build quality is as good as my astro a30s, but the sound quality is definitely on par with them, and the sound separation i.e. surround in gaming is definitely better than the astro mixamp... thxstudio pc through the usb dongle is frikkin awesome. I'd say this is a really good gaming headset.

@Scapyr Hello Scapyr. The main differences between the Sigma and Alpha are that the Sigma uses 50mm drives, has a steel head band extension, and over sized ear cups for extreme comfort. Meanwhile the Alpha uses 40mm drivers, has a plastic head band extension, and regular sized ear cups. -Kristen
