I would go along with this as long as its fair, it would have to be simple work for the less gifted. We lost alot of private programs that were helping the poor during this recession. The high gas prices didn't help either, some volunteers who were giving there time driving people to appointments and such had to quit when gas spiked. I think a charity stamp from the post office would be a good idea, if you were sending goods to a person in need, you could get a reduced rate.

Education as the answer has some merit, but educational costs have risen, and that is a problem, also I see the young becoming more and more discouraged as they graduate and have a tough time finding jobs. Employers want more education for less, and underemployment is a problem too.
The way for Children in Poverty to escape Poverty is to make sure that they can get the best Education that they need. That their parents are Empowered to get themselves the skills that they need to get a better job or a good job and escape Poverty. And that the parents are doing the best they can with the skills that they have to raise their kids.

Well you have to. Because you have a government that doesnt intervene to get you out of poverty. Once your job, home, car, health insurance has gone, there is no getting back into society. Actually sense you mentioned the roads, When I lived in PA, in a private community, we paid for our roads in the community through our community dues, plus we paid local taxes through the township to maintain the townships roads. We are not rich or poor, we are middle class.

I mentioned Okinawa because though they don't have a perfect system, I didn't see any poverty while I was there. If they had any it was well hidden, they didn't have any super wealthy, but they didn't have any desperately poor either. But with enough graft and corruption it might cost that much, which is another problem that comes up all the time and it comes up when good people are trying to do the right thing too. The whole point is trying to find more ways to help the truly needy in the united states (and possibly other places). We all see abuses, and nobody wants to get scammed and nobody wants to see the State get scammed either, because state money comes from taxing the people. I know private organizations can help, because I have been involved with church thift stores and outreaches ect at different times in my life.
I also know they can't be the whole solution.

I would go along with this as long as its fair, it would have to be simple work for the less gifted. We lost alot of private programs that were helping the poor during this recession. The high gas prices didn't help either, some volunteers who were giving there time driving people to appointments and such had to quit when gas spiked. I think a charity stamp from the post office would be a good idea, if you were sending goods to a person in need, you could get a reduced rate.

I think the weight would come off on its own if they could only buy healthy foods with there stamps, food stamps should be to help the needy not to subsidize the junk food industry. perhaps instead of sweeping the streets (the non violent prisoners do the road clean up near us, would hate to take away there job, lol) they could build raised beds to grow productive gardens, they could shovel in the winter, etc, we could exempt the physically handicapped.

Be careful though we do not want to go back to when the only option for the poor was the work house, humanity has been there done that. You know I lived in Okinawa for a year and I don't remember seeing any desprately poor there, didn't see any super extravagent rich either.

Education as the answer has some merit, but educational costs have risen, and that is a problem, also I see the young becoming more and more discouraged as they graduate and have a tough time finding jobs. Employers want more education for less, and underemployment is a problem too.

That their parents are Empowered to get themselves the skills that they need to get a better job or a good job and escape Poverty. Well... I come from a modern country and unlike america, here, my government sees fit to pay for me even when Im not working. Sure... there are fat and lazy people but in my case I got hit by a car. In USA, I would have lost my home, car, motorcycle and subsequently my job if I had been in the same situation, whereas here I dont have to worry at all. Why does my government give me all this ? Because as soon as Im better, Im back to contributing through making money, paying taxes.

Sure I leech off the government. I got hit by a car 2 years ago and Im just recovered. I was driving a quad on a mountain road so it didnt have numberplates. No insurance would cover that. I got flown to hospital in a helicopter and given the full treatment. I get paid as usual, my home, car and job is there still waiting for me. Everything is taken care of. Actually America arbitrarily sets the POVERTY line at 14% which is 1 in 7 if you have a calculator. That is-- all those who are in the lower 14% of income earners. They do not pay taxes and they get all the benefits. Unlike your country where your average income is below our poverty line we still hand money out to the poor.

Well you have to. Because you have a government that doesnt intervene to get you out of poverty. Once your job, home, car, health insurance has gone, there is no getting back into society. Your options then are jail or the army. Which is why america has a world record 1 in 40 people in the prison system and infact 1 in 4 prisoners around the world are american citizens. This is why modern, soooocialist countries help people out. It pays in the long run.

What you and many others do not get is that :
just living in America has a cost tied to it. The very roads you drive on cost a million dollars a mile to build. Who is going to pay for that?? you can not afford one million dollars a mile. SO EVERYBZODY pays for it. The rich pay the majority and the poor pay almost nothing but everybody drives on the road. In Africa where 80% of the people are poor they have almost no roads. 13.5 Trillion BTW is the entire American deficit.

It is true that some roads are being rebuilt but that is comming from taxes paid to the department of transportation, tolls pay for some of that also. Actually sense you mentioned the roads, When I lived in PA, in a private community, we paid for our roads in the community through our community dues, plus we paid local taxes through the township to maintain the townships roads. We are not rich or poor, we are middle class.

In america, more than anywhere else, the rich are free to plunder and do as they please. Its the american dream. So to think the rich contribute extra in any way is completly false. More often than not, they pay some lawyer to turn the books so that they are listed as zero income, zero tax and its all legal.

We do offer assistance to our neediest, the food stamp program was started by George Mcgovern because he did see an american child starve in the 1960's I believe and he wanted to do something about it, he was sucessful for the most part. People fall through the cracks but some are just stubborn and won't ask for help no matter what.

I mentioned Okinawa because though they don't have a perfect system, I didn't see any poverty while I was there. If they had any it was well hidden, they didn't have any super wealthy, but they didn't have any desperately poor either. They had a lot of very very small businesses, which the government encouraged with small loans, kind of a watch store on every corner.

I've heard all the arguments for welfare people scamming the gov't. You know, I doubt very much the owners of the Fed Reserve pay any fed income tax. I doubt it because...the fed income tax is paid to them. And how many states in the US have their central banks in private hands? 49/50. But when someone just makes it sound as though the poorest Americans of the world are all just a bunch of grifters luxuriating on the system, then my eyebrows get raised. Poverty line in America is around $10K year/person--where I live that gets you a luxurious cardboard box in an alley.

In Lubbock Texas you can rent a 1 bedroom apartment with utilities paid for $380 a month. This leaves $520 per month to buy food and clothes. Food stamps give you another $210 plus the 100’s of other assistance programs.
Yes Yes ~~ it is not a lot of money but we are talking about poor not rich people. With $730 to spare u can buy food, a cell phone, cable TV and what ever Compared to other countries that makes u rich.

Where I live, what I made as a janitor last time I worked as such--was $17,500/year (2009). I often could not make my rent on time, which was $600/mth--and I was damn lucky to get a BEDROOM in a friend's house for that rate. Mid-Atlantic. Next to the NSA (I don't live there anymore). Different places.

I'm all for profit-sharing, but you're not going to buy into any company as a $9/hr employee--you have to make every dime count for your living expenses. Of course, banks are artificially inflating the dollar through fractional reserve lending: more money in circulation = inflation. That's why employers don't want to be held to a fluctuating min wage: they can't control what banks do.

Well I doubt youtubes will come to your house. I live n LA and no one has come over here. I know you can rent a one bedroom in Lubbock texas today with utilities paid for $380. A janitors job there even at minimum wage would pay over $14,000 a year and you would have almost 10k to blow on food and cloths, cell phones and cable TV.
Any way there is something to be said for MONEY management and $18K a years is way out of the poverty range for one person.
