im not sure what prompted me to want to look up falling towers. im fascinated by tall radio towers and i just got the idea of wanting to see one fall just because they're so interesting, a feat of human engineering, they're so hypnotically tall. :D every time i see one of these tall radio towers on the road, i stare at it as we're driving past.
No engineer on earth can bring down a tower by cutting the guys and not have it be destroyed. If someone wants to save an erect tower, it's dismantled by a climbing crew and lowered by crane or gin pole. Cutting a guy is done when the tower needs to be brought down cheaply and quickly.
Had to do that once. Offered it to the city for an emergency tower, didn't want it. Offered it to the schools, nope. Oh well, rather then paying insurance on it anymore, down it went. It was quite a boring event.
I guess tower is not for me, since I afraid of height and climbing tower any higher than 10 ft. so my antenna is low profile , beside not able to have good outside antenna.
Hey Ya'll, let's absolutely destroy something that we could have sold for $10,000 immediately if we had advertised it. Yep, Oklahoma.... what else needs to be said? lmfao
@vilulf An ancient used Rohn 20G (or 25G tower) would NOT sell for that much hahaha. I paid $250 for my 100' 25G and that came w/ a cushcraft A3S beam. $10,000...what the hell world do you live in? You related to the "its called a guide-wire" dope? Go back to posting on your facetubes and listening to your iPad and let the adults talk.
@vilulf Awww its cute when fat shut-ins learn angry words. Unfortunately I don't think you can read very well. I know its a guy-wire you idiot..I was asking if you were friends w/ the moron(s) calling it a 'guide wire'. Reading comprehension...it saves lives!
@vilulf And holy crap you're a giant woodbooger. That explains a lot. Let me know if you need help w/ any of the words I used in my replies. YEEEHAAAAW!
All the comments i have received in my inbox about this are retarded, my little brother was using my account and I guess commented on this video. leave me alone lol.
As a an amateur radio operator always on the lookout for towers that the ham community might be able to use, this brings a tear. I understand the liability issues
@clubpenguin777 Can you imagine the racket that thing made coming down? I mean...a 200' small-time radio tower like this one can't compare to a full-size longwave tower coming down haha
@minivanlegend Such a thing as a guide wire does exist In the event it was a guide wire what the heck was it guiding? A tower is GUYED by using GUY wires, cables. Perhaps U R 1 of those who think English should be a statutory official language in the USA, but can't use English yourself?
Yeah the tower was dropped because it was no longer needed and no one could be found to take it. It was quite old - it once held a small FM antenna but that moved off so this tower was no longer needed. Sad, but it happens.
yep that's 25. Its rated for 190 ft in 70 mph wind zones, but for that height it should have more than 4 sets of guy wires - and it'll have very minimal loading capability (ie - antennas and whatnot attached) before you find yourself out of spec.
Even with the tower in 'good' condition it may not have been worth proper disassembly. Insurance, climbers, crane operators, etc aren't free - and sometimes you can't find a sucker (ex: ham operator) that will take it down/take it away for free.
I was wondering why the tower was taken down ?? I've worked in some real crap hole radio stations that I always wondered how their towers didn't collapse... and this one looked like it was in decent shape yet ?
Meanwhile in battle field....

@Doily131 nope, guide wires are for keeping rollercoasters straight. A guy wire is used for supporting structures.

If that tower was near Jefferson City, MO, the local hams would have been on that tower like termites on plywood.

Instead of cutting the guy so the tower would fall as one, this "engineer" brings it down in two and destroys it. Oh yeah, What an "engineer".

@grant2053 it's a Rohn 35. Just a bit more stout than a 25. I hate all hollow leg guyed towers though.
