who cares that he draged it on the rocks, the fish will die anyways if it has already spawned and it did not hurt the fish as far as i could see the way it took of, i used to throw northern pike 20 feet in thevair and they still swam away
These fish are great eating. You know how much they cost at your local grocery store in Ontario, Canada? Friggin expensive. If I caught that, I would have brought it home and eat it.
great capture and footage.some controversy over the release technique but i say for myself nice catch ,good release that fish will live on to either get bigger and get taken again and again i hope.

This is the Grand Cascapedia river on the Gaspe Coast in Qc. Hennrick's landing technique is quite controversial, I use it and can say having done both (tailing by hand and putting it on its side in the shallows) the fish can be landed much sooner using his technique and you dont have to play the fish as long and thus stress it as much.
@gaspeflyfisher You just remove 1/3 of the fish's scales and mucus in the process of beaching it - opening the door to a plethora of diseases and viruses.
@Bluebeltonproduction I'm not talking about beaching it as in dragging the fish over dry rocks, but tipping it on it's side in the shallows is far batter than playing it to near exhaustion to be able to tail it, or better yet scooping it up in a nylon net nets full of knots. Anyone who thinks the salmon lying on its side in the shallows is harmful should come to the Bonaventure and watch them spawn sometime, impressive.

@nfldclay This is from the movie "the scandinavian speycast" with henrik mortensen. Dont remember exaclty what river he is fishing in this clip, but it is one of the top Tier rivers in Canada. costs a fortune to fish there i guess :)
Fantastic video! Despite all that was said below by a certain viewer, most importantly that fish is still in the river today providing our sport for many generations to come. I doth my cap to that man. Well fought and thats the beauty of salmon, who knows what side of a rock they have in mind. Was it a stoats tail?
Henryk did nothing wrong, except hold the fish out of the water too long,Drag it up on its side on jagged rock( should have got it into shallows to tail it-but not drag it on its side0 Tailing does not hurst a fish with your hands- I don't know where th idiot before stated such- gaffs and tailing metal loops do hurt the fish1
Was this Newfoundland?......hmmm!- also he revived it just barely in silted water with no flow- not good for an already stressed out fish-otherwise all jealousy!
Great, inspiring video. I have my first ever Atlantic Salmon trip scheduled for next spring. Watching this I wish it were next week! But one question - I caught an 18 lb Steelhead a few years back (actually weighed) and this Salmon seems much larger. Closer to 30#?
zircon215 certianly is a titbag, was an amazing fish and no harm will come to the salmon. 8 reasons of bullshit he gave, that salmon was released perfectly its not an air-breathing 3 year old child.
He might be an international casting expert, but one thing this jerk is not, is a fisherman! This is a large female fish and it will have two roe sacks each the size of a small child's forearm filled with thousands of eggs. Here's just a few of the things he's doing wrong:
1. Dragging over rocks a fish that is going to be released.
2. Pulled the fish on top of a large rock in the river.
3.. Grabbing the fish by the tail ... effectively paralyzing it. Doesn't he know what this does to the fish? Doesn't he know that gaffs and tailers have both been banned here for years?
4. Let the fish still lie on the rocks after the fly was removed.
5. Lifting the fish out of water ... just so the jerk can show off his catch.
6. Let the fish fall over while it was being revived.
7. Reviving the fish in slack water rather than in the current
@zircon215 wheree did u see any gafs or tailers ,,, so the dumbest person i ever came across on here ,,,, loser ,, plz die ,,,everything u siad is sooo off , lol loser ,,,
8. Reviving it with the head across or partly downstream rather than having it face upstream.
Look buddy, you got a number of great rises from her, you hooked her, she gave you a beautiful jump so you could see her ... filmed it really. Why didn't you return her the favor and then snap the line off? You are one sorry excuse for a fisherman ... one I'd certainly not want to fish with!
@zircon215 actually your a sorry excuse for a human being,, and your deff NOT a fishermen ,,,perhaps ata U- fish farm u mite have a chance douche bag..
Great video buddy, perfect river, weather, huge fish, fight. Everything.
It seems you have done this before, the only thing I don`t like is when that pretty fish is dragged over the rocks, it certainly may affect its recovery and overall condition.
canthinkanameup fish may be fine but only an idiot would drag it across the rocks u fuckin moron every salmon angler with any knowledge knows u wade out a tail it u fuckin idiot
@bigpuddin691 i feel the need to corect you... by lifting the salmon by the tail it strains the mucles ,causing it harder for the fish to swim or possibly not even able to swim at all.
its a scandanavian shooting head cast in the underhand style. Hes' swinging a small fly down and across, and doing little strips to exite and aggravate the fish into chasing. The fly is up right near the surface, and atlantic salmon rise up and chase and are "playful" and curious in that regard.
I have been salmon fishing for a long time and every one tells me to give line to a fish that takes a fly, I find it hard to do that, but on seeing this clip and how fast you hit when that fish took your fly I feel much better, nice fish & great clip.
Well its an nice fish but obviously this salmon is not over 27 pounds and at that size its the best to tail them and not put him into rocks...... By the way this the kind of releases that kills a salmon..... very pour handling of the salmon.
That fish will be fine. The fight was short, and it was out of the water for maybe 2 minutes. It was well handled, careful and fast hook removal. Nicely done! Beautiful fish!
Great to watch but for us as sport fisherman it seems hard to realise that salmon are a threatend species, atlantic and pacific. What´s really sad is that SF in most cases dont seem to care when salmon disapear they just go to the next river. Remember the longer you fight a fish the higher the chance of his death. Catch and release is all fine and dandy but honestly most guys fight for the adrenaline rush and can´t wait to catch the next fish. We become salmon fight junkies.
Thats why i recommend 10 lb straight leader..takes a little more skill to turn the fly over but you can bring the fish in quickly .when the waters high and the fish taking well I use 12lb..Its all about the rise and first jump when hooked anyway..filing down the turn of the hook also helps them flick off after the first couple jumps...Wilf Sinnicks has been known to break the beard and tip off useing just the blunt J one jump the fish is off, although ive seen him land them like it.
Nice fish, however you should never drag a fish up on the rocks when releasing. This will knock off scales an could kiil the fish. Always tail the fish in the river, remove the fly and try and take pictures keeping the fish in the water.
