The current volunteer army is too expensive to maintain in adequate manpower levels so we end up depending on the national guard to draw troops. Bring back the draft to restore a strong adequately sized active duty force and let the national guard do homeland security in border protection and civil disaster services where their much more needed.
what the hell no. not everyone is fit for war people in the gaurd and reserve like myself serve willingly in iraq and afghanistan to let us just do border patrol is under utalizing the force that we are many of them coming from full active
Those that are fit should have to serve in the army for two years.. Then do an additional 2 years training with a guard or reserve unit.. Most army MOS schools average 8wks and the return on investment would make this possible. Then that would free up the guard to do the state mission that its best suited for.

Err shouldnt we have civilian agencies doing in boarder work, and not the military.
