Jack, The '57 Cadillac received many design changes from it's predecessor.. The "Flying Goddess" hood ornament was replaced. Interestingly, on the Eldorado Biarritz and Seville, the hood ornament is MIA. The front bumper 'dagmars" (supposedly named for a buxom screen star) received a rubber cap on the tip. The fins on Biarritz and Seville were moved inboard and are called scimitar fins. The 365 engine produces 300 HP and 325 LB/FT of torque at a breathtaking (for the time) 10:1 compression.
@jferg7159 Hey, Joe! Thanks for the details on this one! Cadillac definitely decided to "freshen up" their designs..this was still the heyday of annual styling changes. One could not stay still too long in the styling area! Thanks! :) Jack
Cadillac went through a lot of effort to put these Eldorados together. Everything on these had special detail, right down to the gas and brake pedal. These Eldorados were special and the price reflected it, about 50% more than a plain-jane model 62 (if you can call any Cadillac plain). I have had the privilege of going for a spin in a Seville , but so far I have not seen a Biarritz in real life. Looking in the rear mirror you would think you were being chased by a couple of sharks. Great era.
@cheddyrod Hey, Chester! Nothing was too extravagant for the top of the line at Cadillac...I think they were locked in a struggle with Lincoln to see who could outdo whom..and to some degree with Imperial. There was a lot at stake for the flagship of the corporation. Glad you got a chance to ride in a Seville. I like the mental picture of the sharks for the Biarritz! Thanks! :) Jack
@IluvSixtiesPontiacs Hey, Dave! Yeah...I can see your point on the shape of the decklid..but as you say, it did point up the difference between this model and the standard Cadillac. It was a level of trim and excellence to be aspired to! Thanks!
@brians09challenger Hey, Brian! That is really a measure of your interest in the car! And the nice part about it is that it doesn't require maintenance...just maybe an occasional dusting! I've got a bunch of models too! Thanks! :) Jack
WOW this is my favourite model Cadillac of all time, they were stunningly beautiful, the model years that followed this one, up to & including the 1960 model year, come pretty close in my opinion, but this one will always be at the top of my list :D ... Absolutely Gorgeous!
@northsiderollers Hey, Mike! You hit the nail on the head...plenty of glamor to show off...but it never goes over the line...it says the car, and those inside..have CLASS! The 74 set the standard for engineering excellence too! Thanks! :) Jack
@MrBadassandy Hey, Andy! Yeah, we will never see the likes of this car produced again...and to think that probably in the mid 60's a person could have picked it up on the back row of the used car lot, slightly abused, and in need of some tlc for a steal!
