  • I'm with you Sharon! Maid Rite is our taste of perfection in our little home town. That building will never go away because it is part of our rich history

  • she is not cool shes a beeeeeeyotch!! so is patty. bob and his wife (don't remember her name)...get high all the time. they always came to work eyes bloodshot all to hell. they treat their employees like crap. food is good though.

  • Maidrite in Quincy IL sucks, they treat their employees like shit, I killed a roach one time when I was in there, and most of the customers are rude and senile!!! Fuck you maidrite...I advise everyone to go to Mcdonalds instead, they are cheaper and better!!!

  • @IvyDarkstone you're an idiot.

  • Knowing what's in the Maid-Rite sandwiches, I have to advise against eating 'em.

Your choice though. It ain't deadly; just kind of disgusting.

  • @ianmcu Beef Heart from the Butcher's Block in Quincy :)

  • I enjoy good, clean, old-fashioned "joints" like these, so I'd try a loose burger. But especially some pie and homemade soda, that's what would bring me back, trying a different pie/soda each time ^_^

  • I love a Maid-Rite! Quincy's location makes the best one.. great fries too. It was the first in the whole franchise. I buy 20-30 to bring back home up north and freeze them! Double wrap them! Long live the Quncy Maid-Rite.

  • Maid Rite is AWESOME! It's nothing like fast food at all. The recipe is a closely guarded secret. They used to have three Maid Rites in Quincy - we'd always stop at them once or twice every time we visited my grandma when I was a kid. Unfortunately, only this one remains. A super cheese rite is the best, and their coconut cream pie is so good too. You're not even allowed to tip, and the waitresses are sweet old ladies. My grandparents had their first date there.

  • This place may not serve food that you crave to have everyday, but the atmosphere takes you back to an era long gone. The people are friendly, prices reasonable, food is hot and tasty. There is a variety of choices. Everything is homemade. A great place to take kids to show them what things were like before McDonalds took over the fast food world. If in Quincy, it is worth a visit. Oh, be sure to have a piece of pie.

  • i live here in quincy illinois and i dont like eating here at all i feel we hav much better resturaunts here

  • It saddens me to see how much my town supports this disgusting restaurant while something a freaking Thai restaurant struggles to stay in business.

  • The ones in Macomb are no way related to the ones in Quincy

  • luv the way AB smile proud of himself after making that bun comment.Cracks me up all the time

  • Maid-rite, in Quincy?! They must have known you were coming because most of the time they suck ass.

  • Lol. Exorcist reference? "It burns, it burns!"

  • I live in quincy il. maid rite is one of the best places to eat in quincy

  • Places like this one in Quincy and Taylor's Maid-Rite in Marshalltown, Iowa are the places to go for the classic sandwich. Most other Maid-Rite joints are under more franchise control, and they're phasing out the steam table for loose meat reheated in the microwave.

Better yet, go to Canteen Lunch in the Alley in Ottumwa, Iowa for their coarser-ground loose meat sandwich. Tiny place, real people, custom made sandwiches.

  • I've eaten here. It's really good.

  • I used to work at the "new maid rite" back in the day. The "secret" ingredient is beef heart. The Geises are the cheapest people I've ever met. I still love the sandwiches, but that family is as crooked as they come.

  • new maid Rite in Gladstone missouri

  • Forget about Hardees, McDonalds & Burger King! Quincy Maid-Rite is THE place! When my Mom was dying of cancer I would call Dad to find out what Mom wanted for supper & invariably she would say "A maidrite, onion rings & lemon shake from Quincy Maid-Rite!" You can't go wrong at Quincy Maid-Rite and you can't beat their prices! There may be other Maid-Rites around.....but NONE are like Quincy Maid-Rite for sure!

  • they have a maid-rite in Macomb, Il. also

  • Dont listen to this man, asphalt is not meant for human consumption.

  • Has anyone here eaten one of those sloppy mince burgers?

They look revolting! But Id like to know what they taste like

  • I think that they are actually really good. They are pretty much ground beef with a little onion and garlic salt. A touch on the unctuous side, but still rather tasty.

  • I was in Peoria last Summer, standing in front of a Maid-Rite, and wanted to try it, but the people I was with wouldn't let me.

They claimed to be protecting me.

  • Yeah, after seeing this I was in Kansas City for work and stopped by a Maid Rite. It's not very good. The meat all falls out and you're given a fork to eat what spreads out on your wrapper. If I saw one again, I'd go and order one but not because I actually like it.

  • for those who make fun of the maid-rite lady, think about this... she's been stuck in the same dead-end job at the same dinky joint since she was 17 years old. that would make any person a tad unpleasant

  • It was her career choice!

  • maid-rite kicks ass!

  • She doesn't take any shit. That's awesome.

  • i ate here saturday

    its so good

    i get 2 maid rite

    large fry

    and cherry pepsi

but the lady seemed kinda rude to him

  • no tipping!

  • lol yea no tipping

i eat here all the time

i just ate here last weak

i had a super cheese right and potatoe skins

  • Probably a Sony HVR-Z7U

  • At first, I thought "Feasting on Asphalt" was a commentary on the food at this place. I lived there for two years and this place is gross.

  • Does any one know what kind of camera they use. and the photo camera.

  • Any restaurant that weighs it's portions down to a 1/10 of an ouce needs to have a molotov coctail thrown through it's front window after dark. I'd consider that justice "made right".

  • I have to go ahead and kind of... disagree with you on this. The best chefs understand that having the exact mixture of flavors is important. Alton, himself , understands this. This is the kind of place where you can ask for more meat, if you want it. I suspect that most of it will end up on your plate, though (and they do serve these sandwiches with a fork for just this purpose). This place IS a little dingy and greasy, but those sandwiches are PERFECT.

  • you can keep alot of meat in the bun if you smash it before you unwrap it... there is a maid rite in greenville OH. that boasts the famous "Gum Wall" rock on maid rite

  • @GAMEGIRU LUMBERGH! Arrrrg! YOU slept with LUMBERGH!!... Yeah, well, that may be; But at least I never slept with Lumbergh!

  • That restaurant looks really awesome. That lady reminds me of my Great Aunt Joyce, whom I love dearly. (I think she's right too!)

  • hey i love this place i eat here all the time and turbo ure a bitch i kniow this women so fuck u

  • there was another one here in Quincy but they sold it to a bunch of mexicans that turned it into a mexican restrant.

  • Pause @ 4:41, A.B has such a funny look on his face:p

  • this womens a bitch

  • Isn't she? She treats Alton like some 16 year old kod at his first fast food job.

  • LOL *blushes hard* Oh My God! "why do I want to hold my bans I just washed my hands" XD I just couldnt stop laughing..and yes am that stupid I had to rewind it ..well twice to get it f(^^: I heard Alton had an accident :( but he is doing alright now right?

  • woo..Alton Brown + Bike ?? sweeeeeet X3 well..ahem sorry was kinda naughty, anyhow thanks for sharing your video :)

  • there a maid rite shop in my town of greenville ohio

  • I hit Maid Rite everytime I go home to Quincy. Gotta luv those greasy "super cheese rites"!

  • I know I love Alton. I got A chance to meet him November 10th, 2007, and he is getting kinda big. He looks bigger in real person.

  • This guys is the BEST!

  • alton is gaining weight. But thats no suprise. After all, his whole life is food. He's still the best guy on the food network.

  • thought that guys was kinda rude myself. he could use a little attitude adjusting

  • Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I worked there for over two years, and let's just say I wouldn't eat there seeing some things I did. Also, as far as working there, the politics and favortism are unreal (worse than ur usual job). This, is putting it mildly of course, but it'd take too much space for me to detail all of it here :)

  • Go easy on them. If you'd wasted 35 years of your life slopping overcooked ground beef onto buns, you'd be a humorless, sour-faced old sow too.

  • Sadly I know exactly what you're talking about cause I worked there for a little over a year. Patty sucks....

  • Gotta love this place and Alton did the right thing by showcasing it! A real piece of Americana! When my Uncle visits from Texas, the first place he goes is the Maid Rite!! Yummy!

  • Thanks for posting this I'd never heard of Maid-Rite before. I wish more Feasting on Asphalt shows were posted though.

  • Thanks for posting this. As a former Quincyian, this brings back some memories. I'm amazed he didn't show the 'Keep you feet on the floor' sign.
