It's fascinating to see Jordan in the infancy of his reputation. It's like listening to Led Zeppelin in the winter of 1968-69. Before the hype, before he was "god disguised" as a human. You get to hear the raw reaction of the Bulls announcers as they witness Jordan inventing himself.
That being said, if you pause it at 1:22, you also get the crappiest camera work in the history of the NBA. I mean, WTF?
Sick. Where were the Bucks playing their games in 1984? This looks like a county fair barn. Listening to the wave of excitement from the fans before the last dunk is simply amazing.
@fleis054 - Thats the old Mecca Arena. They tore part of it down and made it into a convention center. The Bucks moved to the current Bradley Center in the 90's.
I'm a 5'8 white guy and I can do 360 dunks. Anyone can do it, just follow the right training program . I used the one at snipurl[dot]com/nbatraining but any training program is fine as long as they work
I dont think the announcers had ever seen a player of Jordan's "supernatural" caliber before. He was their team at this stage and maybe beyond. I mean he was a rookie here(2nd game). But playing like an all star. He was a freak of nature with a superhuman drive to go with the same physical abilities.
The tenacity on both ends leaves me speechless....the guy was human...the energy consumption on both ends just tires me out...seriously...and to think there was one year where he avg 35ppg while shooting 53% and 3.3 stls per game and winning MVP, Def Player and a scoring title...gahhhlee..this guy is the total package...Kobe def has nothing on this guy...MJ just was more athletic and better overall..how many damn times am I going to emphasize on this Kobe is not seeing mj no way no how.
Heck Yeah Man. Kobe and Lebron are great players but, JORDAN. No one ever will be anywhere near him in ability or drive.I was a Bucks fan and followed him closely throught my middle and high school years and he dominated the Bucks and of course everyone else. I'm glad I was alive to watch him when he was in his prime. No one else has really been close (before or) yet.
how do you know "no one ever will be near him" i mean come on, do you predict the future or what, nobody though there was going to be better one than Wilt too, but hey look what happened
@pheeeel17 I 90% agree with you, but I have to say that Vinsanity's highlight reels could rival his Airness...the difference between MJ and VC is that MJ had the heart of a lion, he was a predator and stopped at nothing to get what he wanted. VC might be one of the biggest wastes of talent, but he's got some sick flair when it comes to dunking and finishing in traffic.
VC's dunks were a combination of all that is good in basketball, power, air, finesse, all in one. I'll agree to disagree with you on the layups, but have you ever seen anyone else do a 360 reverse layup?
sidney moncrief was all-nba every year, best 2 guard in the world. when dean smith was asked about michael jordan's pro prospects he said, "i think he'll be a sidney moncrief type". and in his 2nd pro game, michael jordan was absolutely bewildering sidney moncrief. look at them both after michael's alley oop dunk on him.
from 2:54-3:08 "Well here's uh, you know, one of those nice fancy dunks--I don'...most players don't have to worry about doing that, their just stretching to get to the hoop." The commentator on this clip was in utter disbelief as to the slam he had just witnessed, for no one since Erving had rocked the cradle as hard as Jordan did at the end of the clip. Astounding.
actually that wasn't a rock the cradle dunk...that was a reverse windmill going against his won weight....while jumping just inside of the free throw line. this dunk is one of if not the sickest dunks of all time
Back then 24 years ago, NBA fans had never seen a great talent like MJ. And now, 24 years after, even with the influx of "superstars" in the NBA you have to admit that he is still more superior in every aspect to these guys who are playing today.Today's "superstars" are having a hard time to win in the Olympics and the World Championships.
It is always better to hunt than be hunted. =) That is, the US needs this challenge. The game is improving if it sees improvement all over the world. Dang, I think China can be a force to be reckon with! ... ok, in like 10 years.
Man. Kobe hasnt got anywhere near the athleticism Mike had. Pretty much everyone knows that. Jordan had bigger hands, a higher vertical (48" to 40") and a hell of a lot more body control. If you compare one legged take-offs, its not even close. Technique, height, explosiveness, Jordan blows Kobe away. MJ had more athletic ability at 32 than Kobe had at 22.
finally someone sees my point. by looking you knw that he's studied mike. When kobe first came in he played nothing like now, his jump shot was even differnt. Mike is still in a different league. u can tell mike had swagga and i loved every bit.
That last dunk was absolutly rediculous! Thats one of the best in game dunks on the break ever just because of the movement, the era and its never shown. Unreal.
This Video Rocks Jordan schooled my Milwaukee Bucks. There will never be anyone like him. He changed this game. The N.B.A is a international empire thanks the the airness of M.J. Jordan comeback we need you. Can we get a 3rd comeback.
Just shows MJ at his 2nd Pro Game is so much superior technically & in greatness compared to current best player in the NBA with all the experience. MJ was well nurtured at UNC program & molded into perfection offensively & defensively.

I love these clips of Jordan as a rookie. Incredible stuff and its funny too, how the refs and commentators had to adjust to this rookie that played in another league than the actual nba. "The ref is probably not used to such quick hands" lol
Jordan may've been better during the championship years, but he was more fun to watch and exciting during the early years. Seemed every other play was a highlight back then. Never been a funner player to watch then early Jordan.
We might ever see anything like jordan again. Thinkl about it this is his rookie season , his second game as a pro and he is taking it to cats. even kobe took a coupleof years to develop. The closest thing I have ever saw close to this is lebron james first game . but even he didnt average damn near 30 points a game like mike did in his rookie season. Micheal Jordan is the greatest period.
Yeah, Wool free-based. I read it in "Jordan Rules."
It is a shame. I'm looking at some of those highlights, his athleticism is amazing and you can see it with the powerful one-hander he threw down and the touch alley-oop pass he hit MJ with. I've never seen an alley-oop pass that creative!
wow. up til now I'd never seen this before. The league just wasn't ready for jordan!! The refs werent ready, calling fouls on those amazing blocks. The commentators weren't ready, calling 'holy toledo' all the time and failing to call the rookie as anything particularly special. And, clearly, the opposition wasn't ready :)
Nobody in today's game can do that last dunk...it's a classic representation of his overall skill and athleticism...pre-2nd year injury may I also note.
Orlando Woolridge was such a physically talented player. For someone his size and strength to have such speed and agility was amazing. The only other player I've seen with those physical gifts is Shawn Kemp in the mid 90's. If he stayed with the bulls I wonder if he and Jordan could've won a championship earlier. I didnt know about the coke Julius1234 - thats a damn shame.
Yeah Woolridge had some crazy hops and good power/explosiveness. I love the poster of Jordan dunking on him later when he was on the Lakers -- Jordan just goes THROUGH him. I'm sure you've seen the picture. =P
Awesome video. CHeck out his first step at 24 seconds and 40-41 seconds. Ridiculously fast. And look at the height on that big alley-oop (you can see it better in other highlight tapes) -- it's one of the highest jumps for an alley you'll ever see. And the distance/body control on that last jam...wow. One of my faves.
u know what's crazy is Spud Webb jumped that far for a dunk in a game too, it rediculous u gotta see it, it's on here. i cant believe a guy 5'7'' could do that. and im 5'7'' and i used to have crazy hops, i was so close to dunkin when i was 17 but my knee was injured and i pl ayed through the pain and now im 18 and cant jump as high as i used to
I echo that statement. He almost jumped from the freethrow line and he always flared out his legs like wings. He really flew...Guys today jump high but Jordan FLEW.
You can't fly that far with without jumping very high idiot! MJ could get his entire hand above the square box. Do take it personal - you're not an idiot, it's just a manner of speach. You could call me dickdweeb and I wouldn't care. LOL

And look at the height on that big alley-oop (you can see it better in other highlight tapes) -- it's one of the highest jumps for an alley you'll ever see. And the distance/body control on that last jam...wow. One of my faves.

LOL
