  • I hope that in 2012 thorpe works his turns and underwater dolphin kicks...Because he was a beast in the swimming pool without relying heavily on those..Imagine if he did!

  • Thorpe didn't have a so high leg frequency ... his strokes were powerful

  • his legs r machines...

  • my goodness!

  • i saw in an instructional video that he chose this position to get the most out of his kick, a swimmer with a weaker kick (everyone except phelps :) should choose a more horizontal body position i think, with his eyes looking down

  • the nasty things I'd do to have a kick like that...

  • Is it me, or does it seem at one point that the camera had a hard time keeping up with him?

  • oh my gosh....good grief hes fast!

  • go magnini but to phelps is first

  • wow look at that BULLET go

  • It's Phelps first of all, and last time I checked, when they raced in Athens, Thorpie beat Phelps by almost a second.

  • i'm a thorpe fan and I'd admit phelps is a better swimmer. Thorpe is the greatest freestyler who ever lived.

3:40.08 pre-LZR in a rubbish pool is phenomenal.

  • Alexander "The Great" Popov

  • damn.

    his kicks are vicious

  • that ticking noise you hear isnt his kick.............its just the camera mount thats moving.......its using a chain

  • woah, he's a beast in there!

    Amazing!

  • es muy buen video ayuda mucho y "es claro"

  • perfect

  • Lifting the head is not necessarily a bad thing, however. As long as a swimmer can do this without affecting balance and horizontal body position - e.g. by jutting his or her chin forward -, there seems to be little harm. Possibly, Thorpe is one of those few swimmers, as he can lift his head and at the same time he is a perfect streamlined glider.

  • esse video é d++ da pessoa mais maravilhosa q eu ja conheci.....fora q é um gato

  • dat anit him lol

  • Isn't his head position quite strange. He seems to be looking ahead instead of down?

  • He's so good because of his kick and the fact that he maintains such a high vertical forearm position through the whole pull phase. His kick is what separates him from everyone else though. His ankles are flexible enough that he can pull his foot up to his shinbone which means he gets more of a degree of propulsion out of each kick than every other elite swimmer in the world. He's literally swimming with fins.

  • What a machine!

  • beautiful

  • WTF

  • Damn it... how does he swim so fast?

  • Ian kicks like a mule. Size 17 feet I heard.

  • ian thorpe was the best swimmer before he retired

  • This is like saying Mike Tyson has a strong left hook.

  • damn thats fast

  • Damn, i've never seen somebody swim tha fast before... exepect for the olympics, but still. that guy rips ass. Like ehhh what do you call him. MR. Obessesion

  • he's a gold medallist in the 2004 olympics

  • yeah, i reseatched him once i saw his incredible skill level...His is awsome no doubt... he is like like a human fish.
