  • i was there in the sumer with grandma i was 8 years old and can remember it well good old days

  • ...so too is Blackpool long after dark..

    very nice pictures!

  • Nice memories.......Fresh air and fun!

Charlie Cairoli at the Tower Circus.......Live music at the Ice show,,,,

Fresh Cockles.....Endless Rock stalls and those "naughty" postcards,

The Rumble of the trams and the wonderful tableaux on the North Shore.

Irish Sea crashing over the sea walls during the autumn gales.......

    Miss you Blackpool!

  • Fab.

  • Nice to catch a quick glimpse of the old Palace Theatre alongside the tower. It was definitely an act of vandalism when that building was destroyed just a few years later.

  • Its good to see these kinds of clips , local councils (and the general public) certainly had more civic pride in those days.

  • Home.......

  • I was stationed near Blackpool when I started my national service in the RAF. I did a six week driving course in 1960 and would battle it out with the trams on the front. We often passed George Formby's house but never saw him out and about. Happy says!

  • i have to admit ive lived in blackpool all my life and theres 90% less chavs now than there was 5 years ago

  • Blackpool is still the same as it has always been. A dump. But it's much much worse now, with all the chavs and tackiness.

  • the great days, before folk went to the costa brava, blackpool was always better, you never get bored there

  • still the same now :) but with chavs :(

  • golden days

  • This is amazing

  • There is one question does any out there know whether or not there archive footage of inside Blackpool tower of the 1900's and onwards it would be intresting so see what is was like back in those days

  • Thank's for this........

  • wonderful.

  • donald did you add the sound later for atmosphere or did you have sound facilities on your 8mm rig?

    cheers,

  • It was added after I'd transfered it into the PC. All taken from BBC sound effect LP's which have public domain background sounds and as it happens pretty old sounds too. The films were taken using a clockwork 8mm camera with no sound recording... it was 1958 after all :-)

  • magnificent footage, filmed in 8mm?love this era, when cliff richard would have been in the charts

  • Yes 8mm film, hasn't Cilff Richard been in and out of the charts for the last 50 years :-)

  • @thestevo46 May 1958 Cliff changed his name from Harry Webb, and Played the Regal Ballroom Ripley Derbyshire. As Cliff Richard and the Drifters. Couldn't have been to great as they never came back?

  • Did U know?

If u layed each piece of steel from the tower end 2 end ..

    IT WOULD FALL DOWN ..

  • thats what makes blackpool blackpool!! its got character! If its not your taste then its your opinion but don't make harsh comments to a place thats dear to so many people for so many different reasons. Capieash?

  • Thanks for posting. I too am from blackpool and was born in 1978 so it was nice to see a piece of history from my home town :)

  • Wonderful-looks like when I was there in the 60s

  • well, your 8mm clips are far better than mine! it must be the kodak film; surely it could not be my fault :) lol

  • I had a look at one, it didn't look that much worse, I know that to watch the original films they are always much better than any transfer to video. I transferred them myself straight to Mpeg format but Youtube mangles them in the upload process so they always look worse in my experience.

  • Thanks! I was there in May 1951, the week before my 'O' level exams.

  • fantastic clips. - thanks

  • i live in blackpool its weird watching it im only 16 lol prob y =] n the bit with the fountin n flowers is called stanley park =] i live down the road from it

  • Wow, this is fab! I was born in Blackpool in 1974, and raised there...I live just up the prom now in Cleveleys.

Thanks for sharing this lovely film with us. xxx

  • wow 58 the year I born, I remember going there about 63 and looking up at the tower and falling on my bum! have hated heights ever since.

  • Nice cine footage. I have a related clip ("Blacpool 1960") featuring the Pleasure Beach.

  • I now live in Australia but have fond memories of Blackpool........I would have been there as a seven year old when this film was taken.......

    Thanks for posting......

  • Nice work....good to see Blackpool as it should be, and not as it is now! The art deco cafe in the last shot of Stanley Park has recently been renovated, they have stripped it back to it's original look. The food is great, they have a bar now and a baby grad piano!

  • Thanks for your comments, its interesting to hear what people who know it today think. Until a couple of years ago my only view of Blackpool had been these old cine films of my Dad's. I was in a pram at Blackpool in 1959 :-). But when I did visit a year or two ago I would say it still has the same atmposphere, I'm sure things have changed but its still unique amongst UK seaside towns.

  • great thanks for this have you got any from the 80s

  • Sorry, the only clips I have are what is on here. By the 1980's my parents were taking their holidays in places like Tenerrife (as were so many others) and not Blackpool.
