  • beautiful

  • wheres the autotune? wheres the track to lipsync to? oh thats right, these people can actually sing.

  • Talk about pure talent...

  • Absolute class. The pair of them are simply brilliant.

  • can you upload Milwaukee Here I Come from that same concert, its not on youtube

  • @theswine59

    I'm sorry, I have not

  • pure class, no other way to say it!

  • Iris and John go together like Johnny Cash and June Carter,,Just great, what talent.

  • I saw John Prine, rather accidentally, in Springfield, MO last year. His voice was a bit weak at the beginning, no surprise, but it grew stronger and stronger as the night went on. One of the best nights of my life, and I am so glad for the accident that kept me in Springfield that weekend. First time, maybe the last time, I will ever see him live.

He and Iris are perfect singing partners!

  • great music...

  • it sounds like ranchera music, it's almost perfect! both american and mexican folk music are AMAZING!

  • At least John Prine has brought his version of what we call -Americana !

  • Sound wonderful together. I applaud her for how well she matches up with his voice and style.

  • I love John Prine...always have, but she must have really rehearsed to match his cadence.....well done Iris...couldn't have been easy.....

    Great duo....

  • fucking genius

  • Brilliant , two absolutely fantastic singers

  • Saw him once many years ago, and what a treat it was. And she is, as always, fabulous.

  • Wow! That was beautiful, what a great song and performance. I have always loved John's music. And Iris has an awesome voice, Sounds a little like Emmylou, Thank you for posting. ★★★★★! . I Invite you to check my, Youtube are You There What Have You Done. Be honored to hear what you think. Thanks again, Tom
  • This Iris DeMent live video is great! Denver people, don't forget to catch the real thing this month!:

    Iris Dement w/Jason Wilber

    Saturday March 20th

    Swallow Hill Music in Denver

  • Soothes the soul!

  • Lol :)

  • so good it makes me smile for days........

  • Great to hear a old George Jones & Melba Montgomery tune again.

  • I'm English, Iris, is my favourite living folk singer, Jean Auel, my favourite living author. I really dont care if its American or not. I really like this sort of stuff, if it is well done. As for modern stuff. I could not name one record from any top ten in the last 5 years. I dont say its rubbish, just that I dont like it. Iris has something, that other similar singers dont have. She has a distinctive voice, and can put emotion into it. She is, in my opinion , superb..

  • Hi Romanbrough, if you like Iris, you'll love a singer called Martha Scanlan, her album 'The West Was Burning' came out in 2008 & it's one of the best.

  • You would love Nancy Griffith. Any John Prine. Steve Goodman. John Hiatt. Lyle Lovett. Emmylou Harris. Great Singer/Songwriters with passion and soul.

  • Keith Richards is a smart guy but in America, it's so diverse and the most wonderful songs and groups and recordings come out of here and are discovered here.

If America hadn't accepted the Rolling Stones, they wouldn't be the Rolling Stones now.

  • Iris and John just sound perfect....but then again that really aint such a big supprise

  • Nothing short of magnificent!! You brought tears of joy to our hearts Thank you Iris!!!

  • Iris has been my favorite for a long time. She is unique and so down-to-earth. I love her.

  • Is this song really about wife swapping.

  • I think it is.

  • Oh! Boy.

  • Iris seems so sweetly naughty when she's singin with Prine....:)

  • iris reflects country music the way it should be...kudos...and with john prine the 2 unique voices...wonder why they never became superstars of todays recognition

  • Bigtrucker.... they never wanted the superstar status that's why. They can sell to smaller, appreciative venues wherever they go, and they like that.

  • I think your probably right about happy the way they are. They are so good at what they do. Have either published a book ,autobiography?I am thankful to have finally discovered them and their music before I croak.

  • To bigtrucker666-They're not superstars because they're too good for the average persons' taste. They don't do crap, and as one famous Brit musician (maybe Keith Richards) once said: "Americans have a taste for shit". But you know, John P has a legion of devoted and loving fans, of which I am one. And as far as we're concerned, he IS a Superstar!!! No doubt in my mind.

  • @swiggy58a Swiggy, your right on! You know some people don't know the difference between fine wine and the cheap stuff. This, my friend, is "FINE WINE"!!

  • @swiggy58a You nailed it!

  • @swiggy58a WOW..DITTO !!!!!!

  • bigtrucker- Prine IS a superstar in the songwriting world...

  • There are a hundred female singers who sound pretty much the same, and then there is Iris Dement, unique of voice , magnificent, a wonderful Ambassador for America !!!!! She is so intense and pure it gives me chills, and I love her voice and her songs >

  • Iris has a beautiful voice, one you don't hear very much any more. She sings like my grandmother used to sing, country twang and all!!! Awesome

  • Iris is the best country singer, that I know of. But she is so good, that her sad songs, are sometimes too sad for me. (if that makes sense) With John Prine, she is superb.

  • I still get choked up when I hear "Our town". She is one of a kind.

  • I'll just tip ma hat to JScott thar and move on..

I think of Iris and John. and then June and John R. Cash. Those two ladies really put the lace on the wood. Did those ladies sing with the other John's? hmm; Surely J and J got around and sung with nearly everybody.

Most here may know more than I do but for the one that may not, check out Billy Joe Shaver. Singer/Songwriter. Just wiki'd him - ya'll know he shot a guy in the face last year? "Where do you want it?" b4 he shot. No shit!

  • Iris is OLD school country...I love it:)!Too many modern "country" singers sing "crock"...country rock...so they all end up sounding all the same...Iris is a refreshing reminder and has a beautiful voice!

  • You are right.I think there is only one right school of country- the old school country. A lot of "modern"country singers have just a lack of ability -and sometimes a lack of character.Sorry for my poor English.

  • Your English is fine:)Glad you agree m8!Shania Twain sounds like ACDC...Mutt Lange is her man and his sound is "new" country..argghh..LOL!

BUT I love ACDC too..lol...just not in my country tunes!

  • robinhood - Greetings. Has Voltar been adequately portained?

  • Sorry,cannot understand.

  • That shall be their undoing. Trallagh?

  • Is that Jason Wilber on the dobro...If so Jason Hal Ketchum says hey

  • Actually there is a gap in the harmony. Someone should be singing the part left open between John and Iris.

  • great mix, its like good cooking start with good ingredients and dont mess em up. Its great and I want more. When yall viting me over?

  • Nice! I am an old old fan of John's, and what a great team with Iris. Their voices blend beautifully!

  • great song , i love it. my favorite singer, learned to play guitar from him

  • I agree. I agree but he also does very well with Bonnie Raite(?). And God Bless Stevie Goodman.

  • Wow jochart! Learned by listening or personally? Either way, I feel lucky cause you surely know more Prine than I. So I gots more presents to unwrap lol. I thought what I learned from John Prine. Well he, Cash, many Grateful Dead covers of Marti Robbins Merle etc. learned me that country wasn't-- "Country!" Like Monk Coltrane and Davis taught me jazz wasn't-- "Jazz!" Most everyone here I think knows what I mean.. peas all!

  • one of my favourites! thanks for putting this here - brilliant - as we cant see iris in the UK

  • Remind me of Mike and Katie with Truckstop Honeymoon. These two fit well together.

  • yup. and a hell yeah

  • actually it's not quite the truth because I think it's Melba Montgomery rather than Tammy Wynette.

  • this is not bad, but John would be the first to admit it is not a patch on the George Jones and Tammy Wynette version. I love John Prine but what I am saying is true.

  • I think Iris Dement does and awesome job of harmony with John Prine.

  • love this song when my uncle garrett(RIP)and aunt olga sings this song together!!! awsome

  • Lovely duo. Please post more Dement and Prine clips -- together or solo.

  • Damned clever lyrics. Prine ROCKS!!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this.... I LOVE Iris !!!

  • I love how this shows Iris' tongue-in-cheek side... hehe

  • Thanks for adding this! What a fun clip. It made me re-think my ideas of Iris.
