  • thanks for the video. How is uni life in japan? are there good parties there? is it worth going to waseda? and is that an australian accent . Sorry for all the questions. I want to go on an extange to waseda but i also want to make sure this is the right choice for me. I love my beer and my parties but ive also always wanted to study in japan. thanks

  • @tomssmart Yep, I am Australian, you got it.

Waseda is a great place to study if you're looking to going to Japan. It's right in the middle of Tokyo (pretty much) and that means there are plenty of options for partying. In fact, if you go you'll probably find that there are too many parties to go to! Let's just say that university in Japan involves a lot of all-you-can-drink beer.

It can get expensive though... but it's a lot of fun!

  • @grillface101 Sounds great, thanks for all your help!

  • Hi.. thanks for this video.. I'll be staying in Nishi Waseda this Sept.

I would like to ask.. is breakfast and dinner served in this dorm? or do we need to cook for ourselves?

  • @chouhime08 No, you need to cook everything for yourself.

I ended up going out to eat for most meals.

  • @grillface101 ah.. I see.. thank you for your reply :)

  • ah.. i think this dorm is only for exchange students, am I correct?

  • @kittykattykoo Yeah, only for exchange students going to Waseda University.

  • Hi! I will soon study in nishi waseda, i didn't know there is a dormitory called nishi waseda international student house until i found this video. How did you apply for this room?

  • I recently learned I would be staying in that dorm this fall, I had seen the pictures on the site but it's even better to have a video with a quick commentary. Thank you! Since you stayed a whole year, any advice on what I should bring?

  • @JennaCMM - Bring a pillow because the ones they supply are just tiny and hard. Luckily I had my parents coming the week after so I was saved. Oh, and a LAN cable will help too.

Other than that, most essentials will be buyable at a cheap price from either a 100 yen shop (plenty of those) or Picasso, which is a shop on the way from the dorm to Waseda that I'm sure you'll become very familiar with.

  • @grillface101 Thanks for the tips, and for answering so fast. My parents won't be coming so I guess I'll just have to buy one there. When I do a tour of the neighbourhood I'll be sure to check out that Picasso store. Good thing you posted this video.

  • I'm coming to Waseda University in the fall as a one-year foreign exchange student as well. I'll be a few rooms down the hall, also in a single room. Thanks for sharing this - it's great to have a more detailed tour of it! :)

  • @CiegoEnamorado - No worries! Enjoy, it's a great dorm with great managers :D

  • Im Applying Here. I have a 3.0 GPA. Did You Have To Take The EJU (Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students)?

  • I'm sorry, I'm not from the US so I don't know about GPA or anything (and my uni calculated mine for me), but I didn't have to take any exam like that.

If you want to get it, you will :D

  • I really appreciated your quick video and information. I finally have everything set to send my application to Waseda. Are you going there for four years?

  • No, I'm here for the one-year program - that's probably why I didn't have to do any exam. Having an awesome time though.

One thing to be wary of is to pick your classes well - I'd recommend taking as many with foreign teachers (i.e. not Japanese) if you want to challenge yourself :D

  • The reason to going to a college is to challenge yourself. =D I don't know if i'll be able to avoid the non-foreign teachers, due to my majors being japanese and english, but I am really thankful for your help that you have given to me in the past 3 weeks. I figured out that you don't have to take the EJU for the regular student application.

  • if you're a third floorer, make sure there is not a chinese person reading aloud in the kitchen at 3 am

  • What, you mean now?

I'm not usually up at 3 so I don't know...

  • Actually, that's my room! Well, I lived there for a year at least.

  • Wow, really? It's in good condition so nice work :D
