  • Always adore this song. <33

  • Hip

  • Awesome! And I don't mean to hate on you for this but there are some parts that were left out. Nice background music!

  • oh. and tha one she should be a he.

  • from 1:18 to 1:40, the lyrics remind me of when my girlfriend cheated on me. just the hes in it should be she.

  • This song is so beautiful.

  • Wow. This is actually pretty cool. I'm doing this for my choir and our director sang this to us (it was insane(good way. He used to be an opera signer) I love how you put a pop-like beat to it.... And the pictures are great!

  • this is amasing

  • Awwww!!!!! I'm doing this song for my solo in honors vocal. <3 <3 <3 <3 I've listened to this song for years!!!! I know it's from Newfoundland, but it has a bit of Celtic culture in it, doesn't it? Especially this version. Gaaah!!! I can't wait to sing it!

  • @AnimeCountDown I suppose it's quite similar to celtic traditions, but not really any more than what's common in European (especially British) folk music. It's a strictly Newfoundland song. All ours. Cheers.

  • This song is second only to There Were Roses in fave place in Cara Dillon's work, and you've done a great job with the vid. Thank you, Ray.

i just hear this kind of voice in my head all day!

    just kidding!

  • Is this a song about a maiden who loves this man but he doesn't only love her, he loves a couple other people too? idk thats just waht i heard but someone else said it was about her losing her baby.someone tell me before i got mad. lol

  • This girl is madly in love with this guy and then she finds out he is cheating on her so she killed herself...

  • thx

  • It means both, It depends in which way you "decript" the song.

  • The song only means what it means to you.

  • were singing this in choir, obviously not the same arrangement but yeah

  • Us too! :D love it. its heartbreaking tho.

  • We are singing this in choir

    its a really good song

  • This is a really cool version of this song. I really like it! Cool video too! :P

  • I love this song!

  • This version of one of my favourite folk songs at first took me aback because I was used to my piano/guitar.. simple way, but this is beautiful.

This girl's voice is perfect for it. A few listens and I love it too.

  • Wunderschönes Lied, wunderschöne Bilder. Nur die Bildabfolge finde ich zu den sphärischen Klängen einen Tick zu schnell.

  • ich singe das gerad in der oper xDDDD

  • bad version of such a good song.

  • Love it!!!

  • the best ... i love IT

  • I am also from and Newfie background, and this and variation. We probley all grew up with different lyrics. This just sung by Cara Dillon.

  • Your black and white bird isn't a swallow, it's a swallow-tailed kite.

  • It is interesting to read a lot of the comments on this song. I am from Newfoundland where this folk song comes from. Newfoundland has a very rich musical background and "She's like the Swallow" is something you grow up singing. There have been some posts disputing the text of the song. Actually, there are slight variances of the different verses, because the song has been passed on through generations by word of mouth. Consult a Newfoundland Folk song book with all 7 verses for a good version.

  • @deenewf well either way, it's a beautiful song(:

  • i LOVE this song well i luv all verisons of it but this is 1 of my favorites and i luved ur video well done

  • p.s. it goes like this

She took her roses and made a bed,

A stony pillow for her head.

She lay her down, no more did say,

But let her roses fade away.

Used to bring a tear to my eye

  • actually its

"its out of wild roses she made a bed

a stony pillow for her head

she laid her down no word she spoke

until this fair maid's heart was broke.

  • These are the lyrics I have (sheet music for a piano-and-voice arrangement). :D Such a pretty song, but I agree. Folk songs always have variations like that, never set. So no one's right and no one's wrong.

  • would have been ok, but kinda skipped the last verse which kind of makes the song...well unique. It ends with her killing herself, the tragic ending that made this song great. This version is like I cheated....so there.

  • good try, it's a little too soft.

  • I much prefer the Karan Casey version. Very haunting! Unfortunately, I've yet to find it on youtube. 8<

  • My friend has this song as a dance Solo

  • hahaha... solo & ensemble, me too! :)

  • lol everyone sings this song for choir its obviously an easier song to start with but so do I :P

  • Great song, great video, well done!

  • i love this

  • The song is by Cara Dillon. It is from her first album also called Cara Dillon.

  • No, this song is not by Cara Dillon. This song is a Newfoundland folk song. Newfoundland is a province of Canada where I am from. The composer is unknown but the song has been around for a lot longer than Cara Dillon.

  • oh, ok, I didn't know that, thanks. I meant she was the performer in this video.

  • does anyone know where you can download this song im singing this song for my exsam but my teacher cant get hold of the full version so i need to find it ????? any ideas ????

  • I admit that this is an old post but, the best version I have heard thus far is on this CD "The Colour of Amber", and the singers are Anita Best and Pamela Morgan. There are alot of good songs on the CD.

  • nothing beats the surreal sounds of a celtic voice, that makes life better than it has become; in the loss of all things we forgot we even cared about..

  • this is deep

  • this song is amazing

is there anywhere you can download it?

  • i love this version..so pretty

  • what u mean by all parts?

  • TCHS is wad school?? And are you from singapore??

  • I am from the colony texas Hints the name of TCHS= The colony high school ^^ lol

  • Oops, I did not notice. Thx 4 telling me that!

  • Thanks ever so for this sweet video of a gorgeous early Cara Dillon song, off her first eponymous album. I really enjoyed it but being a avid birdwatcher, one of the bird photos did look like a species of Kites, not swallows! Most people won't be able to tell the difference on your video though. I loved your use of the Dicentra spectabilis, aka Bleeding Heart, in one frame and putting the words on the photos so we could sing along.

  • Actually, this is a Canadian folk song.. haha.. I only know that because I sang it. This version is very pretty too though.

  • thats weird the version that I'm singing is celtic

  • celtic is a horrendously broad term. really, celtic culture covers major areas of ireland, scotland, england, america, canada, and (I think) even bits of continental Europe. Often stuff that is labelled as 'celtic' is only done so to make it more attractive to buyers or whatever--it's not one specific background.

  • thx anyone, this is my first ^-^

  • Very creative. Needless to say, ace song choice!

  • Very well made video, and a great song!
