  • Happy 65th Warren. I know you're serenading the angels even on your birthday!

  • @JKohner2 ...Thru the highs & lows, he spoke for our generation...I'm a '47 model, too.

  • The sweetest sounding air conditioner I have ever heard.

  • Warren Zevon...Jackson Browne...Desperados Under The Eaves love it when I stumble across music I've never heard :~) totally awesome

  • The "...look away down Gower Avenue..." that someone (I assume Jackson) sings underneath the final verse of humming is great!

  • Wanted, Dead or Alive - had no idea it was from 1969, so advanced for his time.

  • Where can I find this version?

  • honestly, i have one complaint....

he states hotel vs. motel at times....

it should be motel all the time

  • @what1111000

It is for illiteration purposes, something Zevon loved to do when he wrote

  • this is so f..n awesome!

207 likes, 0 dislikes.... right on!

  • To all Those who have never known Warren Zevon. your world is less for not knowing!

  • i have been a jackson browne fan since the 70s, i was recently introduced to warren zevon, and i absolutely love his music! it's sad i got to know this great singer/songwirter at such a late stage, but better late than never! rest in peace, mr zevon..u r sadly missed by many, still.

  • A couple minutes of humming can tear your heart. Blessing, Warren. Hear and see you soon. Margaritas on me.

  • Have just discovered this version and I think you're right, it even beats the orchestrated version on the original album. A great American song up there with Paul Simon's American Tune. It has always been my favourite Warren song and it's nice to know others feel the same way too. We miss him but songs like this just get better with the passing years.

  • we all have our crosses to bear , we must push onward

  • this song is zevon's best... I love it, especially the air conditioner part... I'm also on the verge of alcoholism and I hope the crucified thieves can keep me away from falling

  • @woosnext: My best wishes

  • He always stayed absolutely brilliant, even after his label dropped him and the radio stopped caring. This was definitely one of his best. This man is one of the greatest inspirational characters I've ever laid my eyes and ears on.

  • great photos. thx . its nice to think of warren happy and not sick. love his tunes. they are epic.

  • My favorite WZ song also. "Still wakin' up in the mornings with shaking hands, and I'm trying to find the girl who understands me."

    Aren't we all?

  • It' s like Frank and Jesse James .. Beautifuls song!

  • It' s like Frank and Jesse James .. Beautifuls song!

  • This is my new favorite Warren song. As a functioning alcoholic myself, I can appreciate Warrens insight into that. As for myself, Im not in the gutter so-to-speak. I just have a great view of it.

  • my favorite WZ tune. How i wish he was still alive :(

  • @pumpkinguts1313 Amen! I miss him too!

  • eee

  • IS THERE ANY VIDIO OF WARREN AND JACKSON TOGETHER?

  • @chicomd555 there are a couple on you tube

  • "Don't the trees look like crucified beings?" - Brilliant lyrics.

  • @WoodRatGirl I'm certain that the line is "crucified theives" which I think is a better line than beings.

  • Needs more Jackson Browne, but I agree .... best version I've heard. Thanks for keeping this music alive.

  • Only the good die young. Warren Zevon's debut-album remains one of my favourite albums of all time and the last song on it, this "Desperados under the eaves" is absolutely fabulous. Never before or after humming sounded so good

  • Every youtube video that features music needs somebody to insult the people who voted 'thumbs down'. Oh, wait, nobody has voted 'thumbs down'. Buncha sheep. (Kidding, of course.) Truly, though, The Mighty Tubesh is right. This is WZ at his best.

  • Got to shake hands with Warren after a show at The Stone in San Francisco in 1983 and exchange some pleasantries. Still one of my favorite memories, and this is my favorite song of his.

  • I just cast the 101st vote. Still a perfect score. This was great to listen to. Awesome!

  • My favorite of Warren's songs.

  • What else is there to say about the guy who painted the soundtrack of our times....

Miss him but we were lucky to have him while we did. See you down the road man.

  • thank you

  • this song inspired me to move to los angeles.... what great imagery

  • Thank you.

  • My only regret is I never got to see him live. He was one of the greatest artists of any time. And the loss of such a brilliant singer and songwritter is a great pain.

  • again congrats to all you young people who know talent AND I MEANT THE EAST COAST I MUST HAVE BEEN U T I OF SOMETHING

  • No matter how many times I hear this song, it brings tears to my eyes just like it did the first time I heard it. I pray you are at peace Warren Zevon and I send you much love. You are missed! RIP!

  • This version of Desperados was new to me. Thanks for sharing it! Warren Zevon was a totally amazing musician and songwriter.

  • One of the greatest artists of our time.

  • incredible

  • congrats to all you young people knowning talent when you hear it and see it makes me feel good i'm 52 and saw warren more than 7 times got to speak with him once really a smsrt man allso i miss him it was this time of year when he came to the left coast

  • Some days nothing sooths me like Zevon

  • The most underrated Musician ever.

  • @bossman5822 I am not young. I was in high school when I 1st heard Warren. But, I agree with everything you say, and went through a similar rough time when I was young. You really understand the lyrics - Warren's song about addiction after one of his rehabs. Ironic - Warren Zevon finally gets/stays clean and he dies.

  • I am pretty young and love Warren Zevon.

He is my favorite solo musician ever.

This is my favorite song by him. I have almost 50 songs by him in my music library. Rest In Peace Warren you are missed. I had a very rough childhood and am afraid I might become an alcoholic later in life.If this happens and I enter rehab this will probally be the song to help me through It. God Bless Warren Zevon.

  • I saw Zevon in the mid to late 80's doing a small club tour. Just him and a piano very special night of music.

  • Also my favorite. I miss Warren.

  • @albiacorva me too

  • Of all his reflective poetic insightful genius this is brilliance on sticks.

Almost hear his classical discordance rattling as he looks upon the crucified thieves.

  • I predict this Motel will be standing until I pay my bill...

  • This is excellent. So is Carl Wilson, Billy Hinsche and everybody else singing backup on the LP.

  • I read hist exe's book. He had jumped out of a window so as not to pay the bill. He went back years later to pay them off and all they wanted was signed copies of his album. Pretty cool.

  • @Barndude9657 Warren Zevon, Hunter Thompson and Keith Moon were the bane of hotel owners. Tortured crazy geniuses all.

  • my dad brought me up on mr zevon and browne, thanks pops.

  • wildjohn, i live in los angeles. huge zevon fan. and i am gonna damn well take yor suggestion. great idea.

  • MYSTICS AND STSTISTICS......HMMM..

  • @mikenbb That's just classic Warren. No one else wrote/writes like that. I miss him so damn much

  • I recommend to every Zevon fan- if you haven't done this- to go to Los Angeles sometime in January or February- stake out a sidewalk cafe/bar on Sunset Blvd. ( Hollywood end) and have a cocktail or 5 as the sun goes down imagining (or even singing) this song. It is a cathartic experience and an image you will never forget.

  • The most overlooked genius of the Bloods a Rover generation. The El Lay sound artist's, artist.

You could scrap the whole of the New Testament and substitute these lyrics to greater effect.

Any version that he and JB are together is sh1thot here in darkest Scotlandshire

  • I really don't know what the point should be other than this is a great artist. and a really cool song.

  • mr z this ones for you

  • I think this version of the song is just amazing. Where is it from?

  • Don't the trees look like crucified thieves?

Still waking up in the mornings with shaking hands and I'm trying to find a girl who understands.

    Brilliant. Aren't we all?

    RIP Warren

  • Pefect.

Don't the sun look angry under the trees?

    Beautiful photos - honest words.

    SirPaul

  • dont think Zevon has a "Shit version"!!!

  • @mccall4910 Well I think its not one of his better versions.. its my opinion pal..ain't no one ever gonna tell me or any of my friends they can't have an opinion

  • I didnt know I was talking to your fiends, nor did I think I told you you couldnt have an opinion.merely said I don't think the man played shit ever.

  • always when i played a zevon record i find myself looking for another one.

  • The song is about alcoholism, yes but it can easily be about anybody struggling with any addiction.

  • what a great version superb thanks

  • I think this is from a bootleg entitled "The Offender meets the Pretender". If I recall correctly this was an intimate set with just the two of them performing for a group of friends. My thanks forever to the one who recorded it and made it public : )

  • I may certainly be wrong but I think "The Offender meetins the Pretender" was broadcast live in a radio studio in Berlin.

  • What album is this version available on?

  • Heaven help the one who leaves...

Thanks for posting a great version of a great song.

  • One of the greatest songs ever written. Even in this stripped-down version, it is very moving. Few pop songs have a coda and this one is exceptional, even without a choir singing along. To my mind, this is his best. You are remembered Warren Zevon! RIP

  • i conquer

  • What an excitable boy!
