Wow, I didn't know Prince could sound pop. I know she is an amazing singer but she lack emotion, she was not even trying. Was this on a cd or this a studio track from '95?
In comparisson to Prince version, the final has absolutely no emotion, when in Prince version it's one of the most intense and heart-breaking interpretation the world has ever witness. Mariah's version is not, but not even close to the original. Prince > every other singer on this song, male, female, or aliens :)
i loved mariah carey and beyonces versions. both different voices and different versions. its not wrong to hate two things. because the truth is those two women showed off their vocals and musicality to this song, and it deserves praising for both.

@csimien1 i agree with that in the fact that her vocal belts were a lot cleaner throughout but as a girl she can belt like that, for Prince to get up their (which i think he does great for a dude) it's gonna sound a lot harsher. but better is a perspective so can't say your wrong. i just think Mariah's is beasty though!
Beyonce can't touch mariah no day, Beyonce is my girl, but don't give me wrong this is the best version of this song ever, after Mariah Carey do it, anybody that sing it after don't stand a chance. Beyonce did a horrible performance to this song. She could do her thing, but something went wrong... This song isn't for Beyonce...
@csimien1 you kidding? she barely strayed away from the original arrangement! a true cover is this where an artist can change it around and still make it sound beautiful. Beyonce just practically sang how Prince did.
@WickedLiam - I agree, but this is probably one of the best covers ever!! I really don't know any covers that Mariah didn't do her thing on. She is simply a beast on covers and remixes, bar none!

she had to get his permission obvioulsy nd he said he loves what she did with it what makes it hot is the way she sung the song cause it has dew lyrics but the track as a whole is sick and she sang it on key she sings off all the instruments and she kills the bridge with thepiano and going into the lead guitar ...then she smooves its out with harmonizing together then she goes off to the lead guitar and bass guitar/ piano
@Briitech did u see Prince's version ?? She didn't did it better. His version and perfomance are Better. honestly, the original of everything is always better, c'mon now
@Briitech cmon son! Better than Princes version. You must have born after 1984 to say that. She is a better vocalist and this version is tight but be for real, Princes version and performance are heart fealt. Mariah can sing but you dont feel the song the way prince song/performed.
