Hi, I'm learning flamenco for a couple of weeks now and i'm at the three sevillanas. I think your last sevillana isn't 100 percent perfect and i think juan plays farruca faster, isn't it? But well done:p
I can play them both a lot better now! Why not record your efforts? now that youtube have altered our channel layouts, i can finally get my playlists for each lesson! the idea being that the instruction video is in the list, with my attempt, your attempt, everyones attempt at the same piece in the same place! surely we would all learn a few tricks watching them all together? :-)
My third recommendation is to search for Grisha Goryachev Sabica Farruca. There's a video of him playing in front of a brick wall, with a good view of his right hand. The economy of movement, especially in picado, is important.
The second video of Gades is from Carlos Saura's movie "Carmen". He dances without accompaniment. You might try fitting some of your piece to his dance.
Farruca is a dance form. The guitar solo needs to carry the "aire" of the dance accompaniment, the dynamics and rhythmic nuances. Here is one of the great dancers of the 20th century dancing farruca.
A bit weak, but otherwise a good farruca solo. I didn't detect an "allamada" in the beginning, and since it is a dance tune, one is needed. your tremolo needs to be a bit faster. Don't stop playing!
Nice to hear. I;m learning flamenco guitar too, and have the juan martin book and I know how difficult is to learn. So congratulations, you are not spanish but your flamenco sounds nice.
alright pal, i really want to start learning flamenco when you talk about the lessons is it a book or cd? also how long have you been learning? and how long did u play guitar for before you started? this is just out of interest because i've been playing just under a year now and would like to think i have the capacity to learn some of this stuff. peace
Well done. Any flamenco song after 2mins, in my opinion, is some work to learn. Just started myself with the Graf-Martinez series. Since you have done all the work learning Juan's Guiterra, I might give that book a go to learn.
Good Afternoon Derek. Good to see You progressing in the guitar art. You play it from memory and have good guitar techniqe after short time training. Wish You much better playing and be guitar master in the future.
I can see you've put a lot of time and practice into your playing with good results.
I'd suggest you try to keep your thumb anchored on the 6th string and only take it away when the string is being played. This will stop your hand lifting all the time and generally smooth things out. Watch your video and see what I mean.
Yes Derek, Jim suggest is right about keep the thumb anchored on 6th string.. It's not too late to fix your position and I can't wait for your other works Derek, congratulation my friend!
thanks! i think i'll try and head over to edinburgh for the next scottish concert he does, and try to meet him again! he said i had good compas last time, i played him his soleares from the book!
Yes, very nice! It's so interesting to see how you improve your skills more and more.
Sorry for my ignorance, but I'd like to know: From what region is your dialect? I like it a lot, sounds a bit Irish to me, but I not always understand it.
thanks! yes i'm from glasgow but believe me if i spoke like the majority of glaswegians, no one would understand! people ask me where i'm from, and i say ive lived here all my life!!??
