Yeah, I Can believe the beginning, december winds has come my way. I broke down and cried my bro died. He was born December 24. So life does fades away.
I was learning to play this song today, aint heard it in years, broke down and cried ,my bro died the same month and it brought up alot i guess,im so glad theres cool people like yall i can tell this too.met danzing like 18 years ago and we only talked about roy.
Yep! Glenn Danzig is an amazing songwriter. He wrote this for Orbison, wrote "Thirteen" for Johnny Cash, and also had another song written for Cash called "Come to Silver" but didn't give it to him due to some issues with the record company he was with at the time... that would have been an amazing song for Johnny Cash too though.
This is a sad song. But not as sad as seeing that the last post was months ago for this Roy Orbison song. "Life Fades Away" should be played more on the airwaves. I heard this song from a weekend radio show I listen to, often. That radio station has great taste in music. Roy Orbison had the sweetest voice!!! I recall how much I fell in love with that voice decades ago. There have been many changes in what passes for music these days. But, I for one will keep listening to Roy Orbison.
Wow, Orbison managed to take something that could have just been as depressing as hell yet managed to make it poignant. Oh, and I'm really impressed with Danzig's writing; it looks like he can do more than just write about rape, murder, and evil.
Not that there's anything wrong with that of course. ^_^
have you ever sat down and listened to af full Danzig album?
He actually manages to describe REAL emotions that live in us all, in a way that seem very sincere and honest, and YES there is depth as well. A lot of his lyrics can be interprettet in more than just one way, and he does not (like most other "bands") write to a "formula" for success, but about what really impacts him!
Glenn Danzig is a rare breed in todays music, we need more like him!
@Njordvind Great post. Couldn't have said it better myself, people don't realize how talented the guy is. Just look at the catalog of music he has written.
That ending is chilling. Like the opening chords of Del Shannon's "Runaway"; like the ending of Andrew Lloyd Webber's song "Phantom of the Opera." Roy's voice soars---goes deep in your bones and resonates there---and you hear him briefly triumphant over the sorrow and anxiety that seemed to follow him for his whole life.
Roy Orbison, folks---a man with a voice of victory.
Glenn Danzig mentioned in a interview that he Almost didn't let Roy use this song cause he liked it so much and offered to write him another one. But Roy wanted to do it, so glenn couldn't turn him down. I would Love to hear Danzig do this song.
I could just spend hours listning to this man his flawless tenor voice give me the chills i can only say one thing the greatést singer of all times and the soul of rock N roll we miss you and still love you!!!!
I bought the "Less Than Zero" soundtrack 10 years ago (ordered it from Gaslight, waited 4 months, paid $70.00 AU) and still get a kick out of it. There is no better soundtrack! Darsha
Now Danzig just has to get Jerry Lee Lewis to record a track and we'll hit the last original Sun Records recording artists... or Danzig could cover "It'll Be Me". That would be creepy! "Down the Line" maybe? Roy is amazing, by the way!
I haven't heard this for a really long time. It seems like Rick Rubin was doing a version of what he later did with Johnny Cash but production-wise he's basically mimicking the old Monument stuff. Orbison did better with Jeff Lynne and Rubin did much better with Johnny Cash.
This is great but I'd really like to hear Roy singing "Bullet".
Glenn Danzig is an amazing writer that also wrote songs for Johnny Cash. If you like this, you should hear "You and Me (Less than Zero)" on the same soundtrack. Danzig's voice is incredible. I read an interview somewhere with Danzig and he had some short, but nice stories regarding his experience with Roy and J. Cash...he went on to say how much of an honor it was to write songs for them. Was nice to see Danzig's face light up with a big smile :)
Glenn Danzig truly is one of the best singer/songwriters of the past thirty years. Roy Orbison is probably the best ever. When you combine the two you get this song.
There should be a version with Glenn singing, however, I'm not sure how complete it is, and, unfortunately, I highly doubt that it was leaked anywhere. I've heard a lot of rare Danzig stuff, but I never heard of this version ever being leaked. So I'm thinking it may never get out. But you never know.
sadly not but there is an acoustic version of the second song he wrote for Johnny Cash "Come to Silver" (unfortunately Johnny never got to record this while he was alive), and he also released his version of the other JC song he wrote "Thirteen" but as far as i'm aware he never (or at least officially) released a version of this :(
Yep, many people don't know that Glenn Danzig wrote this song as well as a song for Johnny Cash. Glenn Danzig is an amazing artist/singer/songwriter, as are Orbison and Cash. Check out Glenn Danzig's song "You and Me" that song and this song are both on the Less than Zero soundtrack. Great stuff.
Glenn had also written "13" for Johnny Cash to sing, but Glenn performed it himself on "Danzig 6". Great songs, Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash were great singers.
Yeah, "You and me" is my favorite, I only just found it recently. It would be awesome to hear Glenn do this one. Bring back Glen Danzig and the Power and Fury Orchestra, I say.
this song always always makes me cry, without fail...it's just so beautifully sung, and it reminds me of Less Than Zero, which was one of the saddest most depressing movies i've ever seen...rdj's performance was just heartbreaking, and this so song just captures the essence of the ending of it...
I just saw the ending to Less Than Zero and ohh man that ending had me in tears. I thought they could have focused on car scene more though instead of zooming and and then coming back in, but It was so suspenseful and emotional.
omg yes i know! RDJ...man isn't that just the reason u cried? cause for me him playing Julian/... he just made me feel and fall in love with him so much so at the end...and the song did not help!!! it was such a incredible movie...
the ending to that movie and RDJ's character in that movie was so amazing. The ending and that song together just had me in tears. When he fell down at that gas station ohh I knew it wasn't good. Then that final scene in the car oh man it was to much!
yes, girl I know! I cry everytime I see it now. I feel bad cause when he fell at the gas station I kinda laughed...I WASNT EXPECTING HIM TO DIE! guess im so use to main characters not dieing in movies ya know? but yes, the music and the ending and RDJ dying was just TOO MUCH!!!
i've heard alot of people say that the movie was far from the book (less dark if u will) and all. I haven't read the book yet so I cant realy compare. but if you compare the book to the movie i guess you may say that but the movie as a whole book compared or not was really good. but if thats your opinion...
I cannot believe I've never heard this song before, I thought I'd heard everything Roy ever recorded. What a treat for me, it truly is ironic with him passing in December.
yes, less than zero is an amazing movie!! i'm going to have this song played at my funeral as a dedication from me to everyone there. already in the arrangements!!!!!!!
An amazing song. No one could perform it better, and yes Glen Danzig wrote this for Mr. Roy (one of his favorite artists). I know it was an honor for Glen to hear Roy perform this song!
