Portland ICON - Peterson played the Chief of Police in 'My Own Private Idaho' and had Cameos in several other Van Sant films - Gloria got into the act after saving his keister when his son talked him into going into the car stereo/installation bus. and it busted (some say due to the son's coke habit - unconfirmed) - anyway, he came back 'with Gloria too!' - now it's all history, but part of mystique that makes Party Down P-Town WIERD!
First purchase my soon-to-be husband and I made together was a microwave at Tom's back in 1988 (I think it cost around $100, and I know it weighed about a thousand pounds!). They were giving away Tom Peterson commemorative coins with purchase that day and I've still got mine.
I'm just wondering -- with the free haircuts, did you HAVE to get the "Tom Peterson" or would they cut your hair to your style? Cause even in the 80s, that haircut was a monstrosity.
He was big on the package deal...buy the sofa set and get the end tables, lamps and rug for FREE!! Oh, and don't forget your Tom Peterson alarm clock..."wake up" "wake up" "we're doing it again"
You can still see his old business in Google Street View on the se corner of SE 82nd and Foster. I'm sure Google will update it soon then it will be gone forever.
So I bought a set of Portland Wrestling Tapes and this guy was always on the Commercials. It's like Tom Peterson is part of Portland Wrestling. Me personaly, I dont know, how he is looked at in Portland, because believe it or not, I live in germany. I like that guy and his commercials.
I grew up on these commercials. Tom Peterson sponsored Portland Wrestling. MANY of the big name stars came through Portland. And Tom made it possible -- he's the nicest guy around. Has Parkinsons now tho.

I'd buy stuff from them out of pity, if I didn't assume they were dead by now :(

God Bless the 80's - early 90's...It was a different, more simply time. Great memories. I wish Peterson's was still around.

I remember they did a Tom Peterson Commercial in the movie "Drugstore Cowboy" W/ Matt Damon while Matt was in bed watching TV.
