Everyone does this the hard way, you are supposed to melt the butter first then add the sugar. Also why does everyone use the thermometer? What happened when people way back didn't invent the thermometer? They looked at how brown the toffee got. P.S. Why did you edit the video
OK, it said you can use nuts in this recipe. NOT if you want to make TRADITIONAL English toffee you don't. TRADITIONAL English toffee does NOT, repeat does NOT, have nuts in it. Putting nuts in it is making AMERICAN toffee, NOT ENGLISH TOFFEE.
@Haileyrocks360 You said it was butter that you used for the toffee, but it looks like you got it from a margerine tub. Are you using butter or margerine for this toffee?
great recipe I used the better homes and gardens cook book, same thing, but I put crushed almonds on it. mmmmm just add when the chocholate is still warm. And If U use a slightly smaller pot it will not burn as easily and you don't have to stir as much. :) You are a good cook too. I looked this up because I was suspicious about all the butter in my recipe but thats what makes it taste so good lol.
Looks goods, I tried a betty crocker recipe for Cashew Toffee...made the same way but with white chocolate and a cup of cashews...it's good, but the chocolate's not sticking to the toffee :(...was your toffee really hard or did it stay fairly soft?
Wow lol its Luc C from school I didn't know you had a youtube channel rofl I was looking for sponge toffee and found this lol. btw nice job on teh toffee :D
tried it today... I don't think i let it stay on the stove long enough. It's kind of a soft toffee at the moment. Put it in the fridge to see if it'll harden up. May try it again.
Wow, thanks a lot for trying it! Yeah you have to boil it for a decent amount of time. And hey, there is NOTHING wrong with soft toffee and chocolate!
So I was reading your info in the description, and you mentioned using smarties. And i recently discovered that Smarties are not widely available in the US and i wasn't sure if that was true or not. So I looked at your channel and sure enough, you're CANADIAN! (woo). Great recipe i'll be following - thanks
Haha that's so funny. Now that I think about it, I don't really see Smarties in the states. I spend about a month there every year. (Not all at once, but spread out), and I really don't see many Smartie boxes, haha.
Why don't you use a knife to spread out the chocolate??

The toffee looks really white you have to cook it for longer until it has a dark golden colour.

Do we have to use a stock pot can we use a sauce pan my parents won't let me because they think i might burn it. :(
TheBunkitty 1 year ago
@TheBunkitty You can use a saucepan, but it might bubble over so be careful! And if you constantly stir it, it won't burn.
