  • The fact that Chew is nowhere on this list is such a massive fail. It should be in the top 5.

  • ok most of yourr list was ok by my standards but no red robin is just unacceptable.... it deserved to be at least somewhere on the list

  • P.S. i DEF gotta pick up Lock & Key :D

  • WOW. i like all your top 20...EXCEPT Iron Man...boooooooooooooooooooooooooo

i HATE Iron Man,,(trader)....really...ehh.well keep it up guys.

    Your Fan, Matt C

  • I just read the first trade of scalped. I dont get it. The art is good but i find the writing soooooo poor. I'm not drawn in by the weak characterization. Why do i care about what happens to them? Please explain. Im at a loss

  • yes i love batwoman so much!!! u guys where so right

  • Great List but in my view you forgot Young Liars, Walking dead, Batman and Robin, Green Lantern and GLC.

But I understand you have to make a choice. And I can't be more agree for Hulk team-up n°1.

That's a real boldly badass comic.

  • Great list. Now I know what to buy. Thanks, guys.

  • I don't have a local comic book store, what was the price of a comic raised to?

  • cool, but i don't understand why Lady Gaga's music video is listed as a related video

  • Because we want to take a ride on her disco stick? I dunknow.

  • Ha! I love your pop up box at 5:20.

Titles I would have included in my own list: The Lone Ranger (&TLR & Tonto), Zorro, Tiny Titans, Green Lantern & GLC (how did you not include these!)

  • So glad Detective Comics made the top 5! One of the best comics I've read in years! Great list guy.

  • these guys put me on to the best comics i've ever read, but...

that said, i question why locke and key is rated higher than scalped this year...i thought the suspense and fear of the former fell off, while the dramatic tension of the latter grew to an impeccable height.

strangely, from experience, i think that both of these titles are better read in trade format (or at least reading story arcs back to back) ...what do you think?

  • @gdkeen Hmmm... I actually love the single issues of Locke & Key, as I think Joe Hill does a great job of making every issue self contained, while continuing the ongoing story. But! I can see wanting to read them as a Book, as well :)

  • Hulk team up with dazzler is like the war and peace of comic books.

  • I couldn't agree more.

  • The penultimate chapter in the Scott Pilgrim saga is certainly worth mentioning. Hands down the strongest book of the year (I'm slightly biased, SP being my favorite book EVER). Oni Press published some great stuff, like the recent Love Buzz and the fifth Wet Moon book (that ending!) amongst other things.

A surprisingly strong book from 2009 was Image's Soul Kiss, written by Steven T Seagle. The strongest point was the art by Marco Cinello, an animator on SpongeBob Squarepants, of all things.

  • LOVED Soul Kiss, and completely forgot about it for this list. Nuts.

  • Deadpool Merc With Mouth were was he. He wasn't here!! Deadpool had sdo much apperances in comics since wolirne orgins and they were all great cameos not to mettion all his own sesies like Merc. with a mouth and DeadpoolTM and Deadpool team up and many others. I'm just saying he desverts to be in this list. And Yes I'm a Deadpool Fan.

  • Top 5 Top 5 Top 5!!!!!!

  • DC's second features don't come in actual issues of their own, right? 'cause, like, i've seen them in detective comics for example, but not on their own.

I'm just confused, since you didn't make it clear, I don't wanna go looking for an actually Second Feature issue, lol.

  • @thrawnian No, sadly. Hopefully they'll be collected at some point.

  • who do dc comics art all look the same?

    dc universe

  • jh williams art was the best of the year

  • i miss the livingroom and beer

  • nice show guys, thank you ^_^

  • holy shit, the image of that guy squirming and making that odd noise on the left at 6:12 will be forever burned into my mind, thanks

  • WALKING DEAD RULES!!!

  • deadpool couldnt even get a #20 spot?

    c'moooon

  • no walking dead, your fucked

  • Oh no!

  • @ComicBookClub

    1. DEADPOOL seriously, 2nd features? dude.

  • @MadDizzle1776 I love the walking dead!!!

  • I'm happy to be a Iron Man fan

  • no invincible

    or agents of atlas

    ... what a shame

  • Check out our individual lists at PopCultureShock...

  • I agree that Fraction's Iron Man is great! Why does his X-men Suck?

  • nice series fellas.

  • Pete's tantrum was pretty funny. Nerd rage. Hee hee.

  • Here's my opinion of your guys' five...Scalped is fantastic, there hasn't been a bad issue yet; I don't care for DC's second features, but at least offers more bang for your buck; haven't read Locke and Key; I really want to read Batwoman, but had to drop Detective Comics because money's tight; and I've yet to read Iron Man, but whenever I see Matt Fraction's name I twitch. His Punisher run might as well have been an act of genocide.

  • Detective is #1 of 2009 for me & all the rest in the top 5 are high on my list, except for Iron Man, which I don't read -- looks like I will have to change that!

  • my list

    invincible iron man

    detective-batwoman

    batman and robin

    scalped

    uncanny xmen

  • this is kinda off topic but which comic store in LA has the biggest selection of marvel legends figures?

  • It IS like the Larry Sanders show on an Indian reservation.

  • no walking dead? shame on you! also where was deadpool? D=

  • HULK TEAM UP #1 FOREVER!

Really good list guys. I'll have to pick up Locke and Key, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Hexed.

Alex, I actually kind of dug HTU for what it's worth. Even after Pete's review.

  • I'm a big DC and Marvel reader... and I agree with all of your Marvel and DC picks for the list....

Question why wasn't Fables on the list?

and why did Pete's nose deisappear when he looked to the side??

  • Batwoman Detective comics is THE SHIT! Number 2 for that is a disgrace :-p

  • you guys are awsome!

  • It's a shame that DC is getting rid of most of its second features, including Metal Men and Blue Beetle...

  • Alright guys, totally awesome as always. But please, give some more love to Top Cow! It's a considerably fresh, young universe with a lot of good characters. I love the art of Stepan Sejic (sorry but that name is impossible to get right) and the blurred lines of good and evil.

  • Locke and Key No.3? I like Batwoman (haven't read Invincible Ironman this year but will check it out) but Locke and Key is shaping up to be one of my favourite top 10 series of all time. Oh also did i mention the Boys? I think you guys need a gag order taken out on pete on these things so that there is less old man logan and other crapola

  • WHAAAA? no Scott Pilgrim? That broke my heart! Not even it the top 20, Why you do?

  • Invincible Iron Man #1?? WTF! Why was Jack of Fables or Fables not on this list? ;' (

  • See, I don't know! I LOVE Jack of Fables. Pete and Justin don't, but-- Oh wait, figured it out.

  • It was awesome to see batwoman on there. I only started reading it because I herd about the Alice charicter and thought I would only stay on for that arc, but I just had to keep going. Its such an interseting way to tell her origin.

  • Disappointed to see Batman and Robin was not in the top 5. However, Im glad Detective Comics was up there, although I would argue it should have been number 1.

  • LOVED the first arc, but the art on the second hampered it quite a bit.

  • Iron Man is my number 2 personally, my number 1 is Invincible, its always great but this year its been phenomonal.

  • Fuck yeah hulk team-up!

  • man i stoped reading ironman because of what a huge dick he became. i've been waiting for marvel to fix him and restore him to his right full place in the marvel universe and now i can finnally start picking it up again. thank you guys for making ironman #1 happy new year comicbookclub!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • Well.. i stand corrected.

Congrats on drifting from most of the obvious choices.

Still think you guys focus too much on Marvel and too little on independents, but good list, and happy 2010.

  • great list!

  • !!!! DETECTIVE WAS way BETTER THAN IRON MAN ¬¬ AND WHATEVER HAPPEN TO THE CAPED CRUSADER???

  • Check out our personal lists on the PopCultureShock blog... Maybe you'll be pleased...er? I dunknow.

  • this list sucks ass

  • IRON FUCKING MAN!!!!

  • I would of had Tec as number one and Iron Man somewhere down by 10 or 7. I'm surpised Green Lantern or Batman & Robin didn't make the list.

  • did umbrella academy make your list?

  • Great show this year guys, but what gives. No X-Books?

  • Cable! And though we all loved X-Force, Uncanny, and I personally like Legacy, this list is the ones we could all agree on. Sorta.

  • Yeah there was Cable, but like Deadpool or Wolverine's other titles, I tend to think if them as more solo then X-related in a sense. But you are right. Good to know :)

  • Great choices. I can't argue. Wow Marvel is following DC. First time I ever heard that. I have to read Iron Man now. Look forward to another year of reviews. Happy New Year! :-)

  • I would have swtiched iron man and detective, but other then that, really good list.

RETHINK THE STUPIDITY OF CABLE. seriously. go back, read when the art changed. SO AWRFUL.

  • Good call on the number 1 guys. i guess people were expecting Blackest night. however you guys really need to pick up Iron man they raise good points on how awesome it is.

have a great new years comic book club!

    Cheers

  • Some of the FACES/Expressions in Locke and key really suck to me but the artist is brilliant regardless.

  • Good stuff, you should do a show saying what you're looking forward to in 2010.

  • Friday! Kind of.

  • I had my 'Sceptic' hat on watching this and I must say I couldn't agree more with your picks - maybe Scalped could have been higher but you guys really boiled down this years hits spot on.

  • Hey, thanks dude! And thanks for watching :)

  • Iron Man is well deserving of the #1 spot. Superb writing and art, i love the story so much. Great top 20.

  • Where the hell is Blackest Night?

  • It doesn't deserve to be in the top 5 this year.

  • great top 20 but there was one prob for me.....wheres Invincible!!! lol

  • Yeah Iron MAN!!!!

  • I know you guys are fairly divided on DC titles, but no Batman and Robin? I wouldn't put it in the top 5, however it would be in the top 10.

  • I would switch #1 and 2 but besides that hell yeah

  • I thought Iron Man had been consistently average since the reboot, very surprised it made number 1. scalped and Locke and Key seem to be getting huge praise from you and other reviews I've seen, guess I'll check them out.

  • Scalped and Locke + Key, hells yeah! I'll check out Batwoman, love Rucka.

  • woo hoo hulk team up!!!

  • Good to see Detective Comics on there, but no CHEW? WTF?

  • I wasnt expecting that to be the number one! im sure its good and people have said its awesome so thats awesome :)

  • Wooooooooooo~

  • FIrst? no just kidding I hate people who do that.
