  • Just for everyone that doesn't know where to get the sheet music for this, its in the book, Lets Face The Music used for grade 6

  • To HappinessAWAITS

  • Slide vibrato in the right hands is an essential component of ballad playing. Some examples that come to mind are Tommy Dorsey.Dick Nash, Si Zentner. Don Lusher, Joe Howard and Murray McEachern to mention as few. All of these gentlemen are available for your perusal on you tube and all are and were masters of the slide vibrato. Your arrogance for such a young age 17? is quite appalling!!

  • @allintheuniverse You completely failed to address or counter my point at all sir. All you did there was make a list of names of people who use a vibrato, good job.

  • @musician992008 No chip here, just tired of seeing that. Regardless of the quality of the vibrato, people always claim it's not there because that person didn't move his/her slide. I personally hate vibrato's like that, it gives a flat sound... Sure it still goes flat if you lip it, but only if you don't have proper control.

Don't think being a "pro" or being 40 earns you anything here. I'm 17, aspiring, and pretty good. But equally as knowledgable as you or anyone else in the matter.

  • @musician992008 Are you incapable of hearing his lipped vibrato? Tired of all these "If the slide doesn't move no vibrato" fags.

  • @musician992008 thank you! i was waiting for the vibrato also!

  • awesome dude :D

  • i love the harmony

  • wow...i hope i become as good as him!

  • absolutely gawjus mate, tone was lush, slide technique precise, although i would say that maybe too much gliss in some areas and that u could vary the dynamic range even tho i know its a quiet piece, overall - Lovely

  • Utterly lovely! Also, I've never seen someone look so peaceful while playing an aerophone.

  • That was fabulous....i am a trombone player myself....great performance....

  • beautiful . . . . . just beautiful i can't express that enough omg, i hope i can get that good !

  • His tone and technique is just amazing and that vibrato is flawless I hope I get this good

  • could i get this sheet music anywhere?

  • very nice sound and great technique

  • This is a really good performance

  • i appreciate the compliment, but no, i am not a professional. i am a trombone player, though and have been one for many years. i started in the fifth grade and went through high school. i played one year in college band for non-credit..in other words i just joined. 10 years later i joined a 'community band' of around 60-70 players in lake charles, la. we would put together a free concert every 2-3 mo. while i played for them, i took private lessons from a low brass professor from the college.

  • excellent playing

  • who wrote this piece?

  • 'moonriver' was written by the legendary composer/arranger henry mancini. his first big hit was the theme song from ''peter gunn'', one of the earliest t.v. crime dramas in the late '50's and early '60's. he then followed it with such memorable hits as ''baby elephant walk'', ''theme to the pink panther'',''love theme from 'romeo and juliet' '', ''mr. lucky'' and ''theme song from 'hatari' ''. he won an unprecedented 20-something grammys and many other awards. his home instrument was the flute.

  • romantic~~~~~~~~

  • wow, this is so beautiful. i havent played in years, and his sound makes me want to play again.

  • The best trombone that i have ever heard. I play trombone and am taking lessons from Eric Wallace. The moon river was awesome!! I am 10.

  • stick with it. it's the best all-round and versatile instrument every invented. this asian fellow took a timeless classic by the late and great henry mancini and made it so nice. he's using a technique you'll encounter later called ''legato''. it's difficult to explain and even harder to master. it involves using the tongue to interrupt air flow just long enough to move the slide and not get a ''smear'' . the slide and the tongue work must be simultaneous. this is too hard for beginners.

  • wow....you must be a professional!!!

  • This trombonist is also using what I would call a sliding sforzando which is just tagging a note then doing what you can as a slur to the next note seeing as basically the trombone is not really a slurring instrument.

  • I beg to differ :P, slurring is harder, sure. When you find the technique for it however, it sounds so much better ! Not to mention you can slur up the harmonics of the instrument.

  • sorry to comment on a month-old post but how is the trombone "not really a slurring instrument"???

  • a sforzando is when you accent a note forte and then go piano immediately after than crescendo over the rest of it. And the trombone is a perfect instrument for slurring.

  • keep it up and practice every day. you will never be sorry you did. did you ever want to turn professional. it would be a very rewarding career.

  • can somebody please tell me where i can get sheet music for this?

  • I played this same song in a medley of Henri Mancini songs--we played "Charade" and "Moonriver" at the same time.

    What great fun it was!

  • can anyone send me the sheet music for this piece?

  • Killer sound. just killer.

  • I haven't been playing my trombone for more then 5 months but this makes me feel like playing again! Very romantic and sounds great! Thanks.

  • Beautiful Playing! You sound great. Can I buy this arrangement somewhere?

  • hi kwonotae!how i can find the full score of this piece?

  • I also play the trombone...and i have to say: Its great! Its wonderful! Amazing! But please, can somebody tell me, where to get the notes or send me please!!! I love this song! Thx :)

  • wow... there are very few players who can play that smooth.

    excellent job man.

  • I have to agree with you. Sheet music really distracts the audience from the soloist, and such a great piece deserves to be memorized.

  • You sing wonderfully through your instrument.

    Bravo

  • QUESTION~

i play trombone, and i've only heard

    "slide vibrato" once...

if they mean wiggling the slide,

it's just like a valve tremor only smaller...

so why do people say vibrato...?

vibrato is like adding a more distinct wave, not changing pitch...

    (((((REMINDER-THIS IS A QUESTION!!!

    NOT A RANT!!!)))))

  • lip vibratos sound alot better than wiggling your slide on trombone. i dont think anybody does "slide vibrato" if that exists...this is why youre 6th chair. nubmuffin

  • Uhhh, a lot of jazz players do slide vibrato, sir.

    So, yeah...

  • just throwing my two sense in as a trombonist, this guy is a using a more pretty and suttle form of vibrato which invilves him actually moving his airflow. while slide vibrato is awesome and beautiful in its own way, the way this guy uses vibrato is absolutely phenomenal.

  • I'm partial to slide vibrato.

  • Slide vibrato is more of a jazz thing. Classical vibrato is usually all lip or diaphragm.

  • The type of vibrato he is using is known as "jaw vibrato". It is the main form of vibrato used by sax players, for example, but is just as effective on brass instruments. The jaw is moved at its pivot point (similar to chewing) to subtly contol the depth and speed of the vibrato. It is well demonstrated here!

  • Nice job - well played - Good technique - only occasionally did I think it could have done with a little more soul (feeling from the heart) this is a beautiful melody from Mancini - always a favourite. Well done!

  • my favorite song, the instrument i play, and my favorite asian...WHAT COULD BE MORE PERFECT?!?!?!

  • Beautiful! Well done.

  • Bellissimo! Bravi.

  • It already has some wonderful vibrato. Instrument shaking/slide vibrato is always too obvious

  • This is from a former t-bone player:

    1. It's fine just the way it is and, if you'll listen carefully,

    2. He IS using a very light "lip" vibrato. It's done by altering the teeth width using the jaw hinge joint. It isn't as obvi- ous as slide vibrato audibly or visably. Sort of like: Did I hear it or not?....that kind of subtle.

  • great job man^^

I also think that a light slide vibrato would be a nice add...but it's also great played the way it is

  • muy buenooo..!!

  • i dont think the slide vibrato is the best idea.your friend plays with "feeling".thats the important and enough:)

  • beautiful , using a little slide vibrato would make it even more beauty
