drove the 2007 ML350, to me, this is not as good as the sedans from mercedes. Really crappy engine, had to take it to maintenance to fix up the engine 3 times a year costing me more than 20 grand total. The so called ' warranty' covers basically nothing. Think twice before buying it.

Dipstick, I have driven these cars. The Mercedes has a crap intrior plus the terrible styling. You know this car was on TopGear's worst 20 cars in 20 years. it was number 7 so shut it. Volvo and Lexus weren't there.

The fact that they always have a "check engine" on, my friend has repededly taken his to the dealership. And that on the old ML, the engine takes a good ten seconds to start up, my uncle used to have one and it only had 100,000 miles.

My old 99 ML320 got a check engine light on once, at more than 100K miles due to the MAS going out. Between the 2 Mercs I have, and the two I used to have, Ive logged in three quarters of a million pleasureable miles... Maybe you and your crew just need to learn to take better care of what you have.

Really? Because the Lexus RX350 he also owns has hasn't had any problems. I haven't bought a Mercedes, because they're all just brand name cars. My brother thought I was exaggerating until we got in mr uncle's ML for about a 1 and a half our drive, the next day he was complaining of how the seats made his back hurt. And neither of us are one to complain when any little thing goes wrong.

@pendulumrulez An XC90 V8 Sport isn't a women's car. Look up the reviews on youtube they're pretty good and it's a car that's a bit cheaper than main rivals. RX350 is for the wife, I just say that I drive it because I own it. Plus it's very comfortable, not sporty but insanely comfortable.

the cayenne and range rover sport are more heavy duty, being built on truck platforms. the ml is more of a crossover, having a unibody construction. the ml can't compete with the cayenne and range rover in terms of off-road capability, exclusivity, and maybe even luxury (the new updated range rover sport interior is awsome). Also, preformance and handling are what the range rover sport and cayenne are known for.....not so much the ml.

Replaced? The ML was not replaced, it even got a facelift last year, the GLK is based on the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and one size smaller. The GL is bigger than the ML, but it doesn't replace the ML as well as the G-Class either. Because of the popularity of the "old" G it is still available and the "new" GL won't replace the G-Class. The classical G-Class will be produced until 2010 at Magna Steyr in Graz/Austria.

However the GL doesn't replace the ML (as well as the GLK) and it won't soon.

Ok, you're going to try to convince me to respect the ML-Class more. I think the SUV sucks, but there's a chance that you'll persuade me to respect the ML-Class. First, answer two questions.

1. Which do you like better, the Audi Q7 or Mercedes-Benz ML-Class?

Well I don't consider them competitors. The Audi is wider than the GL (not the smaller ML), is as long as the GL, and is shorter. To me it's something of a full-size SUV to the mid-size ML.

On the other hand, they're pricing is similar. So if you really want to compare them:

Powertrain:

ML550 will eat the Q7 4.2 alive in a race and gets better gas mileage. Both are silky smooth and sound great.

Interior:

Both score major points in my book. The Audi's is prettier, the Mercedes' is richer. The Q7's is bigger but has bigger blind spots too. It's a tie again.

Exterior:

I like both, but the Audi's more.

Drive:

The Audi is bigger, and thus to compensate, it has to be sprung more stiffly to drive "sporty". My friend's dad has one and it never settles much. My uncle on the other hand has an ML500 (pred the 550) and it feels just as sporty, but more fun and has a much better ride.

This is a decent vehicle. The maintenance cost is high and the 1st generation was a complete failure. I think the GL is nicer, but the maintenance costs on the GL are concerning as well.

The GX470 is very outdated so I suppose the GL is better in the sense that it is more luxurious and its a Mercedes

But on Quality and Reliability, the Mercedes can call it quits. Mercedes Quality has dropped significantly within the last 10 years.

Actually MB quality has been on the rise in the last several years. They were third in 2008.

The LX570 is just awesome, no doubt. But I'd still have the GL550 over it. It drives much more athetically without being less comfortable, its third row is a million times better (you can't even fold the third row flat because of the live rear axle), and on top of all that the Mercedes gets both better gas mileage and is significantly quicker.

Depends on wants though. LXs can offroad majorly!
