  • always nice

  • like an angel

  • To me. This song says. If there was no countries, no religion, no sadness, no sorrow, and no possessions, there would be COMPLETE peace.

  • Well said jpence 80 - Dolly is a treasure!

  • GR8

  • I love my Dolly. One of the few people in this town with some sense of real world issues! Everyone who's talking about religion and thinking you know what Dolly stands for...watch her most recent Larry King interview. She says Most people need to dig a little deeper and love one another, she goes on to say that she's a very SPIRITUAL person. Theres a HUGE difference in Religion and Spirituality. The lyrics of this song speak about a true spiritual heart. LOVE!

  • After filming this song, I interviewed Dolly for the programme - The Heaven and Earth Show - and she said the same thing. She came across as a really spiritual person. I wish I could find the interview to upload - I'll have a look for it!

  • @jenp1000 We are so very blessed to have her here!

  • @jpence80 Soo agree!

  • I think it's about setting aside idealogy and living as a "brotherhood of man"

I love Christianity, but I still love this song...so there.

  • Wow truly and Angel from Above this women is! im loving this Version!

  • she kind of reminds me of pamela anderson for some reason

  • Loved it I really love Herr :)

  • i love her voice and listen to her music as I´m a baby, because my dad

  • She is such an amazing and incredible woman! A wonderful example too! And she is more and more beautiful every day! Love you Dolly!

  • Unbelievable.....too bad the world.....people....don't think like this and believe in this. Dally you voice is amazing!! Terrific artist.

  • My god, she's so beautiful...

  • gorgeous song gorgeous dress and Dolly is so beautiful I LOVE Dolly I have always wanted to hug her and when I got to I hugged her so hard I think I hurt her it hurt me her boobs are hard it hurt my chest too she was so sweet

  • She has a lovely voice! I dont know about her religious beliefs but im pretty sure shes a christian so Im suprised to hear her say Imagine no religion.

  • @1americancarfan You don't get it :( The message. It doesn't matter which religion you are. IMAGINE!.....

  • @carlene156 You can have peace in the world without mass atheism. I am against religious violence, wars, etc. because they contradict any religions core teachings. But you don't have to rid the world of all religions to have a loving society.

  • @1americancarfan I take issue with your last statement about not having to rid the world of religions.

It is unfortunate that the Gods we have made for ourselves all DEMAND exclusive ownership of our souls. That each religion defies all other religions as 'the wrong way'.

So, sir, until we have a big ol dinner with Christ, Mohammed and Sidhartha Buddha all agreeing that each is as vald as the other - we will have "Holy Wars'.

And ain't that an oxymoron - 'Holy War'?

  • @SacMyk My religion has not had a holy war in modern times. My religion is of peace and caring for one another, not spreading it by the sword.

  • @1americancarfan .."not had a holy war in modern times." RIGHT THERE, you make my point for me. Every religion has at its core the belief that theirs is the "right" way... and the others are essentially wrong.

For christs' sake, we have sects of Christianity that deride and excoriate other sects of Christianity as 'misinterpreting' the Bible.

  • she has one of the most amazing voices... her and reba mcentire are just truly amazing!

  • @countrymusicgirl1231 "She and Reba McEntire..."

  • nonono... Thanks by try, but i sad its bad 'cause do not hepl to trasmite the creation feeling

  • love dolly and lennon

  • Dolly is amazing, this is a wonderfull song and dolly really put her mark on it.

And Dollys really is teh Queen in country well most styles of music !!

The beates version is also gr8 before i get all the beatles fans mad lol !!!

    Crazy4Dolly xx

  • I saw her perform this song in concert which was an incredibly moving performance. People who argue about who did it better or what have you, have failed to understand the songs message. This is a beautiful song with a beautiful message of love, peace and hope.

  • Nope. Couldn't be. How food comes to market, the nature of nations and their contributions, the importance of ideals in history... nope: a more shallow pseudo-knowledge. Just a dreamer, like John. He got caught in a double fantasy: that was the name of his last album. I remember being sad when I heard he got shot and thought "Well, that's what happens when you live in a double fantasy." You've got to start with reality.

  • @dangervich :( SAD OUTLOOK :(

  • The song says "Imagine" not "Do". Its telling you to look beyond the strappings of your country, your religion, your convictions. Not necessarily drop them, just think about what negativity they might cause. Then, to look beyond the prejudices and negative actions they push us into, and enact some love and help to your fellow man. This song, especially song by Dolly, isn't about abandoning your beliefs, but tempering them with love and acceptance.

  • I have to feel I have read and heard enough of Dolly's words to be confident to believe she wasn't wasn't mocking the song as another commenter suggested. I believe Doll understands that Lennon was speaking to the evil done in the name of God and/or country. Nothing more and nothing less. Dolly isn't 1 to pussy foot around if she wan't to criticize anything is she?

  • It's hard to imagine a lyric more antithetical to the spirit of country music. Dolly Parton is a great person and a great singer but when I hear "imagine no countries... no religion too" my heart sinks. And that's what a genius she is: she sings it and strips it of its faux-religion and shows what it is: a bad lyric in any kind of music. It's nonsense. The weird thing is she sounds like she believes in it.

  • Too bad this came from a better person who wrote this song in the name of John Lennon!! John Lennon was god in music!

  • Comment removed

  • Rubbish. No one is "god" in music. But you may have a point. Perhaps a delusion of grandeur explains his descent into mediocrity.

  • just more proof that a amazing song can be redone (even into country) and still be powerful and touching..andmost importantly touch a whole new audience and generation...thats thepower of music.

  • omg people XD stop arguing and just listen to the song :]

Love the song i personally like her version better, but who am i to say :]

Dolly is my idol -favs- :]

  • Good version

  • OMG shes really good i luv her voice!

  • I think this song means everyone UNITED together without caring about differences in religion, race, sex, wealth or anything like that. Also, one without greed and those other lovely seven deadly sins.

  • Yes, that's exactly what the song implies, and herein lies the problem. Peace needs a foundation. People need a foundation. Practice needs a foundation. And that foundation is composed of righteousness and truth. Lennon would have done more for peace had he sung about the prevailing delinquency of Fatherhood, one of the major contributors to the instability of society today. The last thing our kids need today is to "imagine" there is no religion, God, or heaven.

  • Sadly, Dolly thinks she can represent God by singing Christian songs, and then jump into bed with infidels, such as Lennon, and sing a song such as this, which denies the need for God and the hope of heaven.

True and lasting peace will only come when the Prince Of Peace, Jesus Christ, steps back onto the stage of humanity, and He will in due season.

Peace must have a foundation, and that foundation is the true and living God.

  • Sadly you are mistaken almost all wars in recent times have been in Gods name. So if anything he is the foundation of war.

  • Please elaborate on your statement. Give me a few examples. The term god is much to general. If you are referring to the true and living God, the God of the Bible, then you are greatly mistaken. People put forth this argument all the time, lumping truth and error together. There are plenty of abuses to be found in religion, as in any other realm, but let's not blame God (the true God) for the stupidity of those who misrepresent Him and His Word.

  • Have you had any education at all in History? The Crusades: murdering thousands of people in Gods name. And im sure God is for it he killed all of civilization off once cept for Noah based on his "word" or work of fiction. But even the last war Bush sent us into Iraq saying God was on our side. Think of all the suffering children starving to death in this world if there was a god or any all powerfull being that claimed to "love" us I hope I get to tell whoever that is off cause they suck.

  • The deficiency is not in my knowledge of history, but in your grasp of what constitutes true religion. Yes, you are point to falsity and perversion to establish a basis for condemnation, but you are accusing the wrong person(s).The true and living God is not the responsible party. In fact, the Bible even speaks of those who kill true believers and think they are doing God service. Noah's flood was an act of divine indignation toward gross sin, unleashed after a century of continual warning.

  • And how can you condemn the crusades under the premise of evolution? Isn't religion just another evolving expression of the human species? It's really not much different than the lion chomping on the gazelle. It's remarkable how selective you evolutionists are in applying morality. On what basis can you condemn the Christianwho rejects all other religious options when it comes to soteriology? You have no basis, for you came from chance and your destiny is non-existence.

  • Wow, if only god was real would almost be worth going to hell to see the self-rightious hypocrits like you burning beside us non believers. Its nice that you need to believe that death here isn't the end. That science and knowledge scares you to the point you pick one of the many religions man have created through the years to cover there fear of death and to control other people. I'm glad that works for you, no need to judge Dolly, as you believe God will be her only judge...Tis a sin to judge

  • It is a sin to judge falsely, or to judge self-righteously, but not to judge in terms of assessing a situation, declaring truth, or discerning right from wrong. In fact, your oppostion to me involves plenty of "judgment." You obviously do not believe in God, and that is your foolish choice. I firmly believe in a Creator, in the God of the Bible, in right and wrong, and that Jesus Christ is God's remedy for human sin. It is unfortunate you have chosen to embrce the mother of all lies.

  • With one of the many bibles? The King James version is the most popular. It is a sin to judge he will be the only one who judges based on what most bibles say. It doesn't say he that judges falsely or self righteously or if so name the bible....If Christianity were true it would have been around since the beginning of men there are religions alot older than it, some still around. Did your God decide to wait thousands of years to come out claiming to be the only creater?

  • The concept of judging and/or judgment has a positive, as well as negative meaning in Scripture. In the positive sense, it involves the exercise of wholesome discernment, the ability to distinquish truth from error, etc.

An example of this is 1 Cor 6:5, in which the question is posed: "Is there not a wise man among able to judge (discern, provide counsel) between his brethren?"

It is not wrong to point out the fact that Dolly Parton is not living in obedience, or to the glory, of God.

  • Listen, being the advocate of evolution that you are, aren't you supposed to see religion as just another outcome of the whole evolutionary process? We are moving upwards, right? How can you condemn anythng or anyone, based on your world view? It doesn't make sense. I'm just doing what the evolutionary cycle has dictated, and how can it be negative? You have virtually no basis for making any kind of moral judgment at all. We are just two "here by chance" creatures doing our thing before we die.

  • I feel foolish I can't believe I am wasting time argueing with someone who is obviously beyond reason. I am talking to someone who believes in an imaginary man in space that created 2 human adults out of nothing and gave them language. One thing I don't understand from so many churches/preachers is why does God need so much money? Seems thats what they want to do, judge someone like you are doing and to beg for money. Its pathetic but if it makes you happy do it i hope you fly up to heaven soon!

  • The evidence is in my favor, even if you disregard the revelation of Scripture which reveals to us the personalty and attributes of God. The amazing, complex world points unquestionably to the existence of an omnipotent, all wise God. The real foolishness is in saying that life evolved from non-life, and without the aid of intelligence. And when it comes to churches and money, you are again basing you opinion on that which is counerfeit. Take a look at the real thing one of these days.

  • I agree and disagree with you on some level. I beleive religions should not be tampered with, like Christianity has...but let people beleive what they will.

  • Love it<3

  • DOLLY is the sweetest soul...Thanks Dolly for your gift of song and for just being you... .....you have always lifted my spirit up when i am feeling down. Thanks for uploading too.

  • gosh i love this.. dolly is a american treasure, i cant "Imagine " the world without dolly.. i want to thank god for putting her on earth same time i was here... thanks

  • where on earth did this video come from???? was this an alternative to the one that was released?? but they are both great!

  • When was this video made? It sure as hell isn't the music video. It's great!

  • No, it isn't the music video... This song was on her 2005 album "Those Were The Days" so I think the video is from the same year...

  • But Dolly is definitely "performing" to the recording of this song, so it looks like it was maybe she thought of using it as the video, then changed her mind and did the "official" video. This is beautiful,bu I do prefer the official video, if for no other reason, than because it includes the beautiful footage of John and Yoko, as well as Dolly singing in Central Park in front of the Dakota, where John and Yoko lived.
