I see Ray Barnett and Tom Eldridge the original members of the Jarmels. These faces bring back some great memories. They are now gone but their music and images live on and the fact that I knew them is wonderful and they will be remembered until I'm gone. Funny, I know most of the lyrics to their songs without reading them anywhere, wow.
i hate to be the one to bust y'all bubble , but this is not the original Jarmels at least the lead singer isn't. listen to the original doo-woop version and you will see what i'm saying, he does a good job , but I'm use to the original one. I saw the Jarmels on the doo-woop program this month and they really sound better now than they did back in the day
Do your research and you will see Mr.Paul Burnett is in fact The Original lead singer of The Jarmels..
The Jarmels are a doo wop/rhythm and blues group officially formed in 1959 in Richmond, Virginia. They were composed of Nathaniel Ruff (1939-1990s), Paul Burnett (1942-23 March 2001), Ray Smith (born 1941), Earl Christian (1940-1960s), and Tom Eldridge (1941-19 June 2000).
A true soul classic. Just saw them on a PBS special - they are a direct link to great music from Ben E King to Willy Deville. Where has this been all my life?? Thanks for posting.
If you can sound as great as this nearly 50 years after the first recording you have proven to be up there with the very best. I can not see this being done by any of nowadays "artists" and I would like to use this label very lightly.
My late mother's fave group. Brings tears to my eyes hearing it. Just missed them in concert near me last month. So nice that they're still around and sounding better than ever. Won't miss them next time that's for sure!!!
if you want to hear a great album buy the Jarmels. All their songs got better with each release....i cannot understand that took place in the radio field, but this group
if you want to hear a great album buy the Jarmels. All there songs got better with each release....i cannot understand that took place in the radio field, but this group
These groups from the 50's and early 60's sang because they loved to sing..money came second to most of those groups and like everything else in life many were screwed out of most of their earnings. Many earned less in a lifetime of performing than one concert date for the groups today that have to have their music censored. Horrible but true and that is the difference. Those groups will live on forever and today's groups are only as good as their last song.....
It's kind of sad that doo wop -- or any 50's and early 60's music -- is pretty much gone from radio station playlist. This music, the close vocal harmonies, can be appreciated by everyone--not just those of us who grew up with it.
They sound great but def. not "better than original" Take it from this musician, when you do your hit one whole tone lower key and leave out the 2nd verse yet repeat the 3rd, it ain't great. all in all, these guys do sound very good for 47 yrs. later. Just the'fact they're still alive, let alone together
Skinny on Johnny Gale.He was in a Jersey band with Bobby Rondinelli in the late 70's when Richie Blackmore hired Bobby as his drummer in Rainbow.Johnny's real name is Neil Posner. He is currently in Kenny Vance and the Planetones.
What I think is best is that the backup music doesn't overwhelm the featured singer. It just compliments. Not like the music today, sometimes you can't hear the featured singer at all.
What more can one state---"outstanding." Forty seven years later, and it's like the Jarmels recording, "A Little Bit Of Soap" is being heard for the first time. Doo-Wop, the greatest souding music to one's ear.
The singer is Alive?

that is called a song stylist. SMH! Paul never sang songs the same way twice. That is the difference between good and great!

Paul Burnett was a great vocalist and friend. I knew him well. His heart was always in the music.

I dedicate this song to a long-lost friend Eleazar Perla Sansolis who lives now somewhere in New York. Hope to see you sometime classmate.
