  • Dude hit a ton of stuff. Fake

  • @StoneGarage First you should know that this run is a Tool Assisted Speedrun, if you don't know what that is you can visit TASVideos to learn more.

The reason why he survives hitting stuff is because how small they made the hitboxes in the game. This makes it possible to hit parts of enemies without getting hurt (Such as the piranha plants). Everything done in this movie works the same, and can be done, on a NES console. No cheats or anything were used to record this TAS.

  • What If this guy did all that and his video camera lens was still on

  • @MrBabyD095 sigh

  • @MrBabyD095 he didnt cap it with a camera

  • Wow.

  • tool-assisted.... it's fake

  • @bumbyk2000 Fake would be if you say it is a real time run, but it is a TAS. If you say it's a TAS, and that it is, there's nothing fake about it. Fake is when something isn't what it says it is.

  • so you did all that to start all over again?

  • AVGN: how would you like it if i came every 5 minutes and pause the game?

    *making super mario speedrun*

    AVGN: never mind

  • Thanks for saving me Mario!! Oh no problem, it only took 5 minutes out of my day.

  • This video went viral on Windhoek

  • You went through so many enemies its not even funny. No way this is real

  • okay i read all the comments about the hitboxes and shit but a little after 3:20, he jumps up under a green koopa and should've rightly died but then instead killed the turtle

  • This is insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!O_O

  • 4:59:60 lies. It was clearly at 5:00 when he got that thing to kill Bowser

  • 3:26 he didn't jump on the turtles head. The turtle jumped on Mario's head, so mario should have died.

  • @LoboAscuridad This game was programmed strangely at some points. When Mario is in his falling animation, he'll stomp on an enemy no matter where he hits it. That's why he survived at 3:26.

Top and side of the plants are made to not hurt you. Nothing out of the ordinary there either.

And 4:59.60 is the exact time this was finished in. The TAS record is now 04:57.31 though.

  • @Tomtelala I didn't know that about the falling animation. thanks

  • pretty cool

  • ghost cheat, emulator gamer, bad fake :)

  • @KeeperDirk 1. He didn't use any cheats. I guess you think so because he's touching enemies without dying? That's because the game is made that way, it has bad hitboxes.

    2. A TAS is supposed to be played on an emulator, nothing wrong here.

    3. Not fake. It says it's a TAS and that's exactly what it is. It would have been fake if it was said the run was made on console while it was a TAS. But that's something completely different.

  • @KeeperDirk you are an idiot

  • skilled.

  • 3:26 faaaake!

  • @biohead66 Not fake. The game is programmed that if Mario is falling, he'll land on an enemy no matter where he hits it. Very weird, but that's how it is.

  • Screamer

  • I didnt knowthere was a water world

  • This is wicked! I found a few glitches back when i used to play in my youth but none of those! I especially like the one in 1-2 where you jump into the pipe to get to the warp zone. And i swear the collision detection on the rotating fireballs in the castle was worse on my version!!

  • This isn't fake.

The collision detection on the piranha plants isn't pixel perfect. This is to make the game easier.

It's a speed run. It's supposed to showcase exploits in the game. I don't understand why people are giving thumbs up to the morons that think they're clever by pointing out that he touched piranha plants.

  • @YourAverageAsshole I understand what you by the piranha plants not being pixel perfect. But there were parts where s/he touched the plant directly. like 2:24 or 2:28.

    ---

  • @LoboAscuridad Uhm, that's exactly what he was saying.

  • @YourAverageAsshole So you didn't see him touch it, then?

  • @YourAverageAsshole i believe it ive "touched" the pirahna plants without dieing

  • @YourAverageAsshole It wasn't a person who did it..

  • @flare8809 A TAS doesn't mean that a bot made the run. Get your information right by heading over to TASvideos and learn how these runs are made.

  • @flare8809 What was it then, a robot?

TAS Speedruns are done with a combination of slowdown and mass save states. A person is playing the game, while abusing these two features to make this video.

  • God this is so amazing every time I watch it.

  • Incredible speedrun!

  • @diablolf100 No hacks were used and it's not running faster than normal. The in game timer is faster than real seconds.

A lot of the plants won't hurt you because of the hitboxes being smaller than the actual flowers. This way you can touch the top as well as the sides without getting hurt. Nothing strange or out of the ordinary.

  • @diablolf100 retard

  • fake !!!

  • @Kieselbac People need to learn how to read movie descriptions and then look up things you do not understand.

This Tool Assisted Speedrun is not fake.

  • @Kieselbac Ah, ye of little faith. Emulators make quicksaves possible. It's also the dream of every asian guy to speedrun mario, and they do. Seeing this many videos here, this one doesn't seem incredible to me, it seems this is your first.

The "hitboxes" can be abused, if that is what seems "fake" to you. You can't touch the core of the carnivorous plants, but the top of it is graphically hitting you, but the hitbox doesn't reach you. same goes for the spinning fire poles, all enemies etc etc

  • Fake.I see what you did thar ya know.

  • I call BS.

  • I call BS.

  • @listenthinkspeak You can start off by learning what a Tool Assisted Speedrun is. By visiting the website TASvideos you can learn about that.

I you have questions why he survived certain things, or how the glitches work, I'll gladly explain it for you!

  • This is failure. In that last bowser castle stage, there were times where you have absolutely perished, especially in that underwater part of the stage. This is fradulent. No respect. And learn to not use tool assisting....but then again, you don't need any assistance in being a tool.....

  • @verisimilitudino Learn what TAS is to begin with.

In the water area, you can touch parts of the fireballs without getting hurt. There is no cheating involved in making a TAS, and everything works the exact same way on console as it does in the emulator.

If you want the fastest real time run, go check out the channel andrewg1990.

  • @Tomtelala I'm not at all convinced. It looks like you got owned by Bowsers hammer at the end at exactly 5:00 minutes.....I do believe that there are faster times out there, I never said there wasn't, and I know what TAS means, or else I wouldn't have known to watch this video.

  • @verisimilitudino The game has very bad hitboxes in general. It's not easy to explain it in detail like this. Every pixel of the hammers, as well as Mario's body, aren't part of the hitbox. Most of the hammer isn't part of the hitbox actually.

There are tools within the emulator where you can see the hitboxes while playing. That way it is easier to understand why he can survive touching the enemies.

Also, sorry if I explained stuff you already know and such.

  • @Tomtelala I can understand that, but for some reason, when I play it on my game system, it appears to be far less forgiving than the gameplay in this video. In other words, I've been killed for much, much less.

  • @verisimilitudino When you play it on console, it's not easy to see exactly how close you are to an enemy when you die and such. While recording a TAS you can choose to be as close to an enemy as possible without getting hit. Considering you have save states and slow motion to help you.

I can assure you that it is the same on your game (As long as it is the NES version) works the same as it does in this run.

  • holy shit

  • smell like nigga

  • thumbs up if your here cause of Slim Kirby

  • Absurdly legit. I can confirm this.

  • curse you 240p

  • mario playa's got skillz

  • tool assisted...thumbs down

  • But it wasn't a world record

  • On 8-4, I always thought you had to wait and run under bowser. I tried this strategy and it works just fine!

  • I DIDN'T KNOW CHUCK NORRIS PLAYED VIDEO GAMES.... OH WAIT HE WOULDN'T NEED TO BE ASSISTED

  • i once ran though Mario without one death ... called everybody to tell them... nobody answered... happy but sad...

  • Cheater, you double jumped at 4:32.

  • @ChampionVortex That's a walljump glitch, not a cheat.

  • cheats->no "damage" by flowers..

  • @MultiChrizzz That's because the game has very bad hitbox detection. This TAS is not using any cheats.

  • you know you're pro when you get a invincibilty star and your in too much of a hurry to want it.

  • First playthrough i watched.

  • TAS noob! Play without it its not gonna help u!

  • @Twinsen764 Seems like someone lack to understand the purpose of a TAS.

You should probably visit the website TASvideos to learn why a TAS is made. It's not to say "I'm so good, I beat the game!" or anything like that.

  • Comment removed

  • whats the point of a speed run when you can ignore most of the obstacles, like running trough walls, the piranha flowers and fireballs

  • @1niels The point of a speedrun is to beat the game fast while abusing the game's flaws suchs as glitches and bad hitboxes, which exactly what this Tool Assisted Speedrun is doing.

It is possible to glitching through walls pretty easily and as it saves time, it should obviously be used in the run.

The game's hitboxes aren't perfected, you can touch parts of the flowers and fireballs without getting hit.

Nothing "ignored", nothing changed, no cheats on.

  • @Tomtelala aah i see, i thought stuff was changed :)

  • @Tomtelala but remember that with TAS u can also play in slowmotion, you can rewind, and u can point out a point where u want to land your jump, its all calculated, still alot of work but u dont have to be pro to do this

  • @b1gbudda The skill in making a TAS comes from planning, patience,outside-of-the-box thinking, creativity etc.

But yeah, I agree that real time running is more skillful than this is. To become a good speedrunner, you have to practice. To become a good TASer, you have to practice as well, just not the same way.

  • @Tomtelala well said

  • One of the best things about Tool Assisted Speedruns is reading the stupid comments about "cheating". Haha.

  • sos un gay

  • 3:26 -_-'

  • @Petardo238 No "supercheat" or any other cheats in this run.

As long as Mario is in his falling animation, he'll land on enemies even though they may hit you like the turtle did. That's how the game is designed.

Please visit the website TASvideos to learn more about what a Tool Assisted Speedrun is and the section "Game Resources" to learn more about the game.

  • SuperCheat o_O

  • You are all arguing over nothing. ITS A VIDEO GAME! And I love video games! Just freaking enjoy it!

  • He ran through a few fire sticks, and got hit constantly by flowers.

  • @Kinesis17 And without getting hurt because the game's hitboxes are bad, not because he is cheating, which he isn't

  • @Tomtelala I own the actually game on my NES. Hit boxes are not that bad.

  • @Kinesis17 They are actually that bad. If you watch the video 2JNf0lAo3Ns, you can see a TAS' input (Not this one, but a faster one) made on console. What that bot is doing in the video is to simply add input from the run to the game, nothing is changed.

  • @Tomtelala Like I said, I own the game. I don't play fake/stolen versions.

  • @Kinesis17 When you play the game on the console, it is harder to see how the hitboxes actually work in the game. By playing on the emulator (Which is the EXACT SAME GAME) you can test to see how much of Mario's body can stand inside, for example, the plants. And the sides of the plants aren't part of the plant's hitbox. Every pixel of Mario's body isn't part of his hitbox either.

That is the fact, you can either stop being dumb and accept it. Or go and try yourself.

  • @Tomtelala Well, but it's still tool assisted.

  • @Linuxdirk Which is very obvious for people who can read, yes. Sadly, most people have no idea what it means and doesn't care to find out, so they just write "Cheater, fake, hax" and stuff like that.

A run that breaks the rules is cheating. A fake run is a TAS labeled as a real time speedrun. A hacked run has changed the game's code.

  • @Tomtelala Point is, I have tried, since I've been playing the game since release. I'd have a better perception, just because you lack the ability to justify yourself, and or prove yourself. Your argument is circulatory, making it as intelligent as the average American 1st grader. Example: does 2+2=4? Nope it equals 5, does 2+2=4? Nope it equals five. Never ending right and wrongs. You've proved nothing but you inability to prove yourself.

  • @Kinesis17 The thing is, I can't really say anything here as "evidence". There are, as said, ways to easily test on the emulator. You can also make a script that shows the hitboxes of both Mario and the enemies while you are playing. Where you can clearly see that every single pixel of the sprites aren't part of the hitbox, and that is also common knowledge in nearly all games ever made.

That's simply the way it is, and if you have truly tested, you should know as well.

  • @Tomtelala I can back this up. Playing mario on my 3ds (yes, it's a direct port of the original), it's REALLY easy to jump over a piranha plant and "hit" it without taking damage.

  • @dRevan64 Good thing there are some people that aren't dumb at least :D.

  • 739 people are Goombas and got squished by Mario.

  • lol very nice

  • Tool assisted? In other words cheating.

  • @CocoaBeanWhip That isn't cheating though. A TAS is a different type of speedrun with different rules. You just slow down the game and use save states when recording. And when you follow those rules, you aren't cheating.

If you would make a TAS and say it is a real time speedrun, you would have been cheating.

  • tool assisted isn't fair for all the other people who actually speed run the effing game

  • @TheBetterGamer Of course it is. A TAS even helps the real time runners out.

You shouldn't compare a TAS to a real time run anyway, they are two completely different things.

  • dare you to do it again with no tool assits!

  • 4:31 dbl jump. fake.

  • @NitemareX9 You mean when he lands on the turtle? Or when he makes the walljump? None of them are anything special or weird looking for the one who knows the game.

  • Comment removed

  • faster than chuck norris

  • pause a 4:48 il touche les boules de feu....même avant j'avais des doutes sur certains monstres...mais c'est confirmé ya de la triche

  • @69furax69 You are able to touch mos of the last fireball without dying. The game wasn't designed with perfected hitboxes, so you are able to do so without getting killed.

There is NO CHEATING in this TAS and everything done can be done on a console.

  • ... but your princess is in another castle.

  • ok, who recorded chuck norris' game console?

  • ah good times good times

  • The pizza guy takes longer than Mario.

  • *911 Emergency*

*Hellp! Our princess has been capturered by Bowser*

*Stay calm, Mario will arrive in 5mins :)*

  • What happened at 2:39??? Is this legit?

  • @gilgammesh1Doesn't look llike anything special happened there at all? He was just jumping.

Yes, this is a legit Tool Assisted Speedrun.

  • Wooow!!! :O

  • I'm not saying this is fake, ut it kind of looks fake. Did anyone else see the way he just walked right through those pants?

  • @DJGraveshoT This TAS is not fake. You can touch the sides of the plants without getting hurt. The hitboxes in the game weren't perfectly well made.

  • not impressed, i beat it in 5:31 when i was 12, no tsa.............and i died once

  • @feezellz Funny how you say it's not impressive because you got a 31 seconds worse time. And it's TAS, not tsa.

5:31 is still not bad for completing the game however.

  • you are a hacker

  • @TheIcecubeking No, he isn't. The game wasn't hacked in anyway, neither did he use any cheat to make this TAS.

    You fail at knowledge.

  • @Tomtelala 0:03 "This is a tool-assisted recording."

  • @Haseo190 Of course, I perfectly know that this is a TAS. This doesn't say the run is either fake, hacking or is using cheats, as that's not what TAS means. People who think otherwise need to get themself some information about it before making dumb statements.

  • @TheIcecubeking It's a TAS aka Tool Assisted Speedrun :P.

  • 735 people tried doing this and failed

  • I blinked and missed it.

  • bhop script!

  • Look at all the people who keep arguing over the legitimacy of this speed run. It clearly says at the beginning of the video and in the description that it's "tool-assisted."

  • I think hes using cheats like "god mode" or something i paused it multiple times on spots where he is in places he should have died. he jumps in the middle of a lot of the plants but i kinda let that slide. but this is unexceptionable he jumps threw the fire at 4:57 he also hits one of the spikes browser throws.

  • @14DarkMatt15 There are no god mode cheats, or any other cheats, in this run. The reason why it looks like he's getting hit is because of bad hitboxes in the game.

The sides from the plant can't hurt you for example. At 3:07 he's below a turtle, but lands on it anyway, that is because the game is made that if Mario is in his falling animation, he will land on en enemy no matter where he hits it.

  • @Tomtelala he still jumps right threw the fire. the fire is directly on his body. i knew about the turtles an jumping and what not, that made since to me. i also said that i would give the plants leeway because i know of the bad hit-boxes and figured that also since the game is speed up it may have looked like it more then it appeared but that still does not explain the fire that was on his body .

  • @14DarkMatt15 Most of the edge of the fire in the water can't hurt you. You can have the whole "fire ball" inside Mario's head without dying.

The game isn't sped up anything. This is normal running speed. The in game timer runs faster than normal seconds.

  • what does he mean with "tool-assisted"?

  • @777digger777 It means the run was record with an emulator in slow motion (Called Frame Advance) while using save states and rerecording.

  • he should have died at 3:24......

  • @joeblot147 I presume you mean from the turtles he killed? The game is programmed that as long as Mario is in his falling animaion, he will land on an enemy no matter where he touches it. That's why he can't land on the koopas from below.

  • 735 users never finished this game

  • SMB: Super Mario Brothers

    SMB: Suck My Balls

    SMB: Super Meat Boy

  • YOU ARE NOT HUMAN XD

  • I love how he hits under enemies and doesn't die

  • @TheSnesWalkthrough At about 3:07 is such place you mean I presume?

However, the game is designed so that as long as Mario is in his falling animation, he'll land on an enemy no matter where he hits it.

  • I love how the timer isnt actual seconds.

    This is sped up

  • @OnlyAfro The timer works like this, which you'll notice if you play the game. This isn't sped up above normal game speed.

  • mickael jackson jumps!!!

  • mario bros was a metaphor for the vietnam war

  • Ok, this is ridiculously awesome !

  • It's cheat-assisted speedrun i think

  • @salonkileijona No, but it's a tool-assisted speedrun though, so you were close.

  • I never knew Chuck Norris allowed his video games to be recorded and uploaded on YouTube

  • he plays as if he has the star power

  • Zoo-Wee Mama!!!

  • So this is what it looks like when Daigo plays Mario...

  • The sound effects kinda go with the music :)

  • What if this was his first ever run right after he bought the game and thought it was the shortest crappiest game ever. :P

  • Seid wann darf man unter wasser sachen berühren ;) ?? wenns kein fake is respekt .. aber unterm wasser sahs iwie anders aus naja ^^ ka :D

  • that is FAKE!!!

  • @MrMcMcFresh no it ISN'T!

  • @MrMcMcFresh It's tool assisted you *******!!!!

  • @MrMcMcFresh It's not a fake, it's a tool assisted speedrun, omfg..

  • @MrMcMcFresh No

  • Around 2:50 he goes straight through a piranha plant...

    That would kill me. hmmm

  • @hoghash78 You can be that close without dying. The hitboxes aren't perfect in this game. You can be inside the sides of the piranha plant without dying.

  • lol, i havent notice it before, but Mario ¨hops¨ the pole after finish the lv xD

  • OMG

  • what was the tool's assistance? I'm not fully knowledgeable about TASs, so I was wondering if somebody could fill me in.

  • @spectraljew A Tool Assisted Speedrun is made using an emulator. You record in slow motion (Called Frame Advance) while using save states and rerecording. The idea behind it is to find out how fast a game could be beaten with perfect playing.

The game is exactly the same as on console though. So if you would have made the exact same input on a console, this would have been the result.

  • @Tomtelala ah, sweet. thanks!
