Capoeira is a martial art, I think people who say it is not have never tried, read up on it nor been kicked by someone doing it. It's one of the hardest I've ever did. So before you say it's not an art, try it for 6 months and you'll see for yourself also tell the people there how you feel about it and they'll make sure you feel truth (not beat you up but teach you the truth). LOL

In a real fight, you don't want too many intricate, quick movements to wear yourself down to exhaustion, yet that is all Capoeira is. Have you ever seen it used in the MMA? On the streets outside of Brazil? And not against another Capoeirista? Maybe if it was mixed in with other arts it could fare better, but by itself? Useless.

Considering that a single one of those kicks is enough to shatter bones in the hands of a well trained Capoierista, and with how rigorous their training is for endurance, they only need to land one blow for you to lose. Even then, read the history of Capoeira, it took multiple Portugese soldiers to even apprehend a single one of them when it was still a slave art. That means it is not as "useless" as you put it.

Ok i just have to flame. k1i9lle9r1a, you have the right idea, but that is not the ultimate fighting style. Hapkido for joint locks, throws, and kick technique + muay thai for kick power and elbows + Kali for weapon based tactics along with addition elbow and standup teqchnique + Silat for groundwork and offset tactics + Wing Chung for ultimate standup with the knowledge gained from all the others. In my opinion if a person was to master all these arts. They would be unbeatable.

I'm Not a big fan of Capoeira because as a fighting style it pretty much sucks.

Want to have ultimate fighting style? Mix Some Judo + Tae Kwon Do for kicks + Ju Jitsu or Muay Thai for good punches. If you have weapon go learn some Kendo, in addition relax with some Tai Chi rejuvenation moves and there you have it Ultimate fighting style. Now you can go raise bruce lee from the dead or just go fight Chuck Norris but i'm pretty sure you'll lose with either of them :P but still Nice trying :D:D

There's a lot of debate as to where Capoeira could hold it's own in an actual fight. IMO, Capoeira was a useful art for slaves to fight with their HANDS TIED. The only thing that Capoeira advantages over other styles is that the speratic cresent & thrust kicks, which are easy to read if you are actually fighting a capoeiraist. My advice is to not trust this art all in it's own, but to mix these agile techniques with other powerful styles such as Judo or Karate. All in all, is the best excersise.

The Latin American people who developed Capoeira were oppressed, and the overt practice of martial arts was forbidden; so, they developed this art to resemble a dance.
