@Anubhavshunya First kudos to you for speaking up your mind..Second let me assure you that you are not alone in the club(including many great people) who thought Tagores own translation of his songs were very weak compared to the richness of the original..I read many old and new ..Tagore and others..none of them satisfied me and thanks for your appreciation

Too much is going into discrediting a perfectly well rendered song .... everyone is welcome to his or her opinion .... music is completely subjective I like a particular genre smone else likes smthing else there are further sub divisions of that liking ...but this rendition as such is excellent ... we are all evolving ... from Pankaj da to Hemonto da to Srikanto we are doing fine I think we haven't lost n e thing .... what we have lost is Bengali films we hv lost ruchi, lost Uttam Suchitra !!

@saharajiv I will give you my opinion. The words of these songs are so powerful. If someone has good diction and open expressive melodious voice that is good enough for me most times to enjoy rabindra sangeet. Sometime though mannerism (both old and new artists) puts me off. Acceptance of the style of rendition of Rabindra Sangeet has changed its form many ways from the days of Punkaj Mullick to my generation (which belonged to Hemanta). So I prefer to keep a open mind.

@infinityTObeyond True, the style has changed a lot, I actually belong to Srikanta's generation. But then I find the singers of the present generation lacking in something, probably they are not elusive as the older generation. That's what used to hold the listeners onto them. Tagore, to me, is more of a mystic than a poet and if you take away the mysticsm, you take away the aura, the fragnance, the essence of a rabindra sangeet. Few things are best not tinkered with. What do you say?

@saharajiv part 1-Tagore , in my opinion was one of the foremost intellectuals of the world in his time far beyond a poet or a mystic. The label mystic was propagated by the British elite intellectuals to market him to the wider world (in which they succeeded) as western world would be in utter disbelieve if in those days one says a man with razor sharp mind and finer sensibility has emerged from a downtrodden colonized country only known for poverty and considered as uncivilized. plz see part2
