a rhapsody, by definition, does not have any type of repetitive song structure like your typical rock / pop song with the verse, bridge, chorus, etc. - it just flows from one musical idea to the next. While fretifreti1 is certainly entitled to his opinion, my guess is that it is certainly in the minority - I don't know anyone who knows the song and doesn't think it's a great song.

Its written very complex, and instead of pursuing the standard verse, chorus, bridge structure, they chose to express one single continuous musical thought. It has great variation in tempo and great vocals and melody. Its a dang good song.

Well, I will admit that the jokes take some of the 'seriousness' out of the music, but if you look at the at the album the Sherinian helped write, it was not heavy at all, it was as close as dream theater is ever going to get to that simplified genre that is referred to as 'pop', and I like the songs that have been written with Rudess on keys the most. (excluding metropolis and a change of seasons, of course)
