@MrSommar25 This movie is about an American batallion. Would you like the directors of the movie to change the story just to please you? @dddddddddddddddd9315 thank you your well thought out, reasoned and charming response. However I think I won't kill myself quite yet. @harlequin2262 ALL war films are tributes. Whether you like them or not, that is a different issue. I think there is more in the accuracy of this film.
That's just the thing though. More than a few war films feel like they're mostly action and where they remembered they tacked on a 'war is bad, respect the troops mkay'. This is one of them.
@dingane.....awful person. Waste of life, breath, space and air. Go find some respect, first for yourself, then for the men who died to give you the right to express your opinion, offensive as it is.
@ManOfWealthnTaste hmmm american arrogance, I love it. simply me applying a reaction on the fact you call germans mass murderers but defending the fact americans throwing atomb bombs on japan? that's why I am a nazi 'race', since when is that a 'race' anyway?? good job buddy, nice brains. obesity kid
@spermwaste Dude wtf are you saying the Germans fucking GASSED, SHOT, AND BURNED Jews who did nothing. American bombed someone they where at war with. Japan was close to making one as well and would of used it but they didn't have time or resources like us so they got bent over. So shut the fuck up on shit you know NOTHING about.
@Fall3nAng3ls you're an arrogant fuck who means nothing in life... and kid, there were jews fighting for the germans aswell, so please don't say things you don't know SHIT about. :) as for america, japan was cut of any oil supplies and their economy was getting fucked over :) for being BETTER i'd say you have no brains kiddo :)
@BioticBeach I'm fucking tired of this debate. We needed everybody in WW2. There are more important issues to be worrying about right now than who was the main cause of winning a war.
Debate all you want. Yes the others were important. Think of it like a present. The british and french were like the wrapping paper but the U.S. was like the bow. And we didn't have any tape so without hte bow the wrapping paper falls off. But you are right! There is much more important things to look at-- WE MUST PROTECT MARRIAGE!
Them damn fags man! Threatening to marry each other and taking away my rights? Like what the fuck homos!? Honestly! We should be in open warfare with the damned fagots!
Damn queers. Marriage is a man and a woman. (I'm not actually homophobic. I was making a joke on today's more 'important' issues. Or at least the ones people 'think' are important. )
Speculation. Russia sped up the process of WW2. Once america intervened the war was basically over on the german front. We would've marched into berlin and won, it would've just been a few weeks/months later. And if it were not for the double front war, Russia would've never fought back the germans. So maybe the french and Englishmen basically won. Or maybe due to american support to the front that won the war. Man don't go saying that the 'russians' won. Due your research ;/
@spermwaste the only sperm ever wasted was the sperm wasted to make you... americans may be arrogant and we for sure are not perfect but you never count us out its been proven time and time again that if you fuck with us your just digging yourself a grave.. so yea know what im proud to be arrogant im proud to be an american
@spermwaste So If Japan sneak attacked Germany and killed so many people you wouldn't drop the Atomic Bomb that Germany was already working on, on Japan? (Don't get jumpy it's just a question)
I see a lot of these comments are based on national pride. There is no reason to be ashamed of where you were born or the normal people in your country. However, nationalism is used to lure people to battlefields, to kill normal people of other nations.
Many are given medals for actions that would normally give them a lifetime prison sentence. Try to let go of your hero worship and try to see what a terrible waste of lives is being shown here.
It would be interesting to see a world where the German Empire wins the war with either the U.S. not involved in the war or on the side of the Germans. Hitler would be a failed artist in the slums of Munich who gets shot one day for not paying rent. Italian Fascism would not exist or be a short lived movement. Communist Russia would collapse or be destroyed by a threatened Germany and Western powers due to the Red Scare. Millions of a future generation spared from a major Second Great War.
One of the best war movies ever. Glad to see a real movie for a change. As usual a bunch sour pusss, anti-American wieners posting but oh well ... jealousy is a universal human trait...
well, usa didnt win the war in a very honorful way. first waiting till 1917 till germany was nearly beaten (letting england, france, italy and russia suffer from war) and then join for some time having much lower losses then all other lands.
usa are not even have as good as canada is. if i was an american i would feel ashamed for this, like for "liberating" europe in 1944 instead of 1939. and afterwards loosing all wars in asia+ middle east. now china is waiting for you illegals (gangsters)
@jamestaylor94b Nah, it's not because we still had a policy of isolation and trying not to entangle alliances with each other. After two World Wars, we set up military bases to prevent you guys from acting aggressively again. I noticed an awful a lot of Germans hated American military bases in their country well do you know bases provide economic growth in Germany? Hope they didn't tell you as that.
Anyways, i do hope Europe pulls themselves instead of relying the USA to do all the work.
@jamestaylor94b USA got brought into the war because a civilian boat was sunk by a german mine so we went into WWI. For WWII we had to prepare the war had already spread and Hitler was knocking on England's doorstep before we could pull our pants up. If you don't know Hitler used a thing called "Blitzkerg" or Lighting War he attacked before anyone could react. Kinda like rushers in Starcraft. lol If you don't have the proper supplies you don't attack yet or you'll get smashed.
@Fall3nAng3ls usa entered the war because germany declared war on them after japan bombed pearl harbor... else the US wouldn't join in at all. the US are the greatest cowards in war you can have... remember the atomb bomb, mass murderers :)
@spermwaste Do you even know your U.S. history? No wonder your name is spermwaste because thats what you are. Are you even a natural born American? I bet your some middle eastern sand monkey right?
@Fall3nAng3ls an what you think your better because you were born in America let me guess you think Muslim terrorists flew plans into the towers and spermwaste is also right Americans are the biggest cowards
@spermwaste You could not be more wrong, after Okinawa, the Americans realised that the death toll for each side would be more millions as it would be every likely that everybody in Japan would fight back. It sounds stupid, but America dropped the bombs to save more lives for both sides
@maiden1994 they dropped the bombs because japan and their 'pride' theory would fight on forever.. hiding behind the lives of soldiers is weak... they killed innocent people.. civillians, children,... there is no pride in that... this was a mass murder, not a war. japan was pushed back to its own soil so there was no reason at all!!!
so? how is your comment relevant. i like the song and that's that. i use it so i can click it whenever. you can go cry hippie because i don't care about your little occupy movement.
@jacobcorbin1 dude are you totally brainless? I react on a comment of you calling GERMANS mass murderers, and you go whining over a song... jesus christ, zombie.
oh yeah your communism hissy fit. Just shut up man! You only focus on the after affect of war and big business. like i said your a hippe who needs to shut up about the past. get a life, get a girl, and stop talking about WW2 on a movie about WW1. Go troll somewhere else in instead of focusing on the past man! Im not saying communism isnt bad or worse just dont forget the holocaust, plus stop complaining about the a bomb, its war dude! gosh, collage punk
@jacobcorbin1 lol stupid american :) go learn what communism is before you act big kid. i suggest you get a life and brains please. and lose some fat aswell obesity kid
@spermwaste Who's acting big? your the one flaunting yourself all over a comment page, about what? communism? How is it relevant? no one cares... plus who said i was fat anyway? your the one whos sperm is a waste here. This is why i hate europeans, they act like they are the greatest ever. guess what! Germany lost both world wars and now all you do is cry about it on the internet! LOL your so gay its hilarious!
@spermwaste Atom bomb= Used after Japans first strike & continued fighting over several years. Napalm= incendiary device, primarily as an anti-personnel weapon. Oil busines= Companies formed to derive gasoline from oil (Used in every nation on earth- including Germany)
@ManOfWealthnTaste japan was pushed back to its own soil you dumb fuck... there was no reason to attack innocent people... vietnam and the middle were two conflicts you dumb fuckers had nothing to do with, only when you smell money or russian influence you move in...
@jacobcorbin1 if listening to german march songs and 'ich hatt einen kameraden' makes me a nazi, than I guess we all are :) and lol video's about world war 2 make me a nazi?! at least I have some brains and am interested in learning stuff instead of growing fat. also the majority of neo-nazis live in america, so i would say go lick my ballz.
that doesn't make them good just because they're in america. Really, you seem like a fine guy, just stop trolling, i stop commenting if you stop, im freakin' annoyed, i dont want to keep responding to comments from here plus you do need to hold back. Education is good but you cant focus on the past forever
@spermwaste Why are you watching this then? Honestly I would like to know why you must come to an American film of an American story of an American experience and whine. Watch Passchaendale or something if you hate Americans so much.
@jamestaylor94bget the fuck out of here you want us to wipe Europe's nose every time someone attacks... we come in when it involves us, we gave up our men for europe and your still bitching and FYI a war isnt won in a fucking day ""like for "liberating" europe in 1944 instead of 1939."" you think a war can be won in a day go join your armed forces and let me know how that goes but until then Shut the fuck up and be glad we helped their ass god only knows where they would be right now without us
@pepelepew2006 that is correct, about 600,000 Canadians joined WWI, and 10% of them did not return home. I happened to see another WWI movie about a Canadian soldier story.
Read up on Major Whittlesey. Aside from being awarded the CMOH, he was promoted to Lt. Colonel. After the war, he tried to go back to his law practice, but the stories of the "Lost Battalion" made him a hero, much to his own chagrin. It also seems that he may have suffered from PTSD. In November 1921, he boarded a freighter bound for Havana. After having dinner with the Captain, he was never seen again.
This brought tears to my eyes. The sheer will that must have been displayed by these men 100 years ago...there's no manner of representation that could come so close to describing it as this.
@kolbpilot I don't think war is murder if soldiers are fighting other soldiers. I think it's only murder if the people getting killed are unarmed or trying to surrender. If not those, soldiers are fighting for their country and their lives.
@kolbpilot Well, that's just my opinion. War is still horrible. I agree that it can be likened to murder. Senseless killing. But I only consider it to be murder if they're executing prisoners of war or killing non combatants.
I looked up that pigeon that sent the ceasefire order. The bird became a national hero. Who'd of thought?! Amazing! and even more was these mens sacrifice. The actors did a wonderful job of reenacting this!
@Killjoy2297 Wow, great job! not many people know about this unsung rifle, but even fewer know the unsung song of the lost battalion. I salute you men. from the deepest part of my heart I thank you and major prinz for showing what true soldiers are. thank you.
@Killjoy2297 No, I don't mean the rifle being used by the majority of the actors, I'm thoroughly familiar with the M1917 Enfield. I mean look closely, real close, and every once and a while you'll catch one of the guys in the background with the very distinctive Mk. 4 Lee Enfield, the one that used a short spike bayonets, they were developed in WWII.
@skullcrush700 While this is but a movie (and meant for entertainment) General Alexander was basically correct; a division can succeed when you throw away a battalion; it's called WAR.
I thought Ricky did an excellent job! The movie was pretty good, the lack of real and accurate information notwithstanding. But I'm at the point now where the author intrusions are leaving sour grapes in my mouth. The comments are very enlightening but there should be more antidisinformation sentiment!
What do you mean when the Bolsheviks took control of Russia they made peace with Germany.
To clear things up I'm not in love with the idea of Germany winning WWI it just because of the injustice with the Versailles Treaty which did nothing more than give a sadistic madman with his NSDAP bastards the chance to rise and twist Germany into an evil empire that ruined Germany's reputation causing it be divided for 45 years of further hell.
General Alexander was right; it's worth throwing away a battalion so a division can advance, that is, unless you're the battalion commander or one of the poor sods that's actually IN the battalion but that's one of the things that makes war what it is . . .
@SatchmoSings Exactly no one today has any clue about WWI. Just wished The U.S. supported Germany during that time would have spared society from WWII ever happening. We all could live with an Eastern section of France under Imperial German control. The French lost fair and square in 1871 and had to whine about it later with a nosey czar and Serbian nationalists to help spark the war.
@GSPatton89 Look, even if Italy had come in the side of the Central Powers at the start of WW1 maybe that too, would have ended it earlier.
Even if the US had come in on EITHER side (and "realpolitik" dictated that we align with Great Britain) closer to the beginning, it would have saved millions; this was Teddy Roosevelt's argument as an internationalist.
But to many Americans, it was "Why sacrifice US lives to end what Europeans do?"
@SatchmoSings By side I meant through supplies like weapons, ammo and food supplies than sending in U.S. troops. Doing that would give Germany the edge to end the war earlier.
@GSPatton89 I made the point about Italy and Teddy Roosevelt; also, using your argument, the US could have given greater supplies to the Allies.
I also made the point that "Realpolitik" dictated that ultimately it was in the foreign-policy interests of the US to support Great Britain; the US entered the war not because of unrestricted submarine warfare nor to "Make the World Safe For Democracy" but to preserve the balance of power in our own favor.
@SatchmoSings What about the Versailles Treaty? Talk about the worst treaty in world history especially the War Guilt Clause. Blame Germany for something Serbian terrorists and sympathizers in the Serbian Government started? All the actions Germany made such as unrestricted u-boat warfare and tragically invading Belgium was Russia's fault, with a sore losing vengeful France not far behind, for interfering with Serbia rightfully being punished.
@GSPatton89 the other terrible thing about the Versailles Treaty was that Great Britain kept up its blockade of Germany to force Germany to accept it; even Nazi Germany wasn't treated like this, well, at least not by the Western Allies.
Also busting up the Austrian Empire was also a tragedy; it created a power vacuum in Central Europe that could only be filled by Germany and Imperial Austria was also greater than the "sum of its parts."
@GSPatton89 02. In some ways it was natural that Imperial Germany succeed Great Britain as, if not as "the world power" at least the European one; it had more people churning out about the same per-capita output; that makes Germany the wealthier, more powerful SINGULAR nation; this of course, does not take into account other nations the UK could ally itself with.
the mistake BOTH nations made was that the US was even more industrialized with even more people.
@SatchmoSings Exactly The U.S. had all the supplies to turn the tide. Too bad England dind't side with Germany would have been great except a family qurrel played a small role.
@GSPatton89 While I realize you're 21, I find it incredibly odd that you're so in love with the idea of Germany winning WW1.
Yes, the Kaiser wasn't Hitler and I can see your point about how the Allies treated Germany after the war; too bad you can't see how Germany treated a defeated Russia.
@GSPatton89 What brought Hitler to power in Germany is the same thing that brought Franklin Roosevelt to power in the US; it was called "The Great Depression."
During what Germans called "The Golden Twenties" there was no interest in anything remotely "Hitleresque."
But give the Germans 25% unemployment with another 25% UNDERemployment, then you had a Hitler!
@SatchmoSings Exactly my point the reparations the Versailles Treaty made Germany pay is what gave Hitler the chance to rise. FDR on the other was a crook and just as much as a dictator as Woodrow Wilson was especially with his laws saying it is a crime to criticize the governemnt which resulted in imprsionment and a huge fine.
@GSPatton89 Too bad you couldn't read MY point; the thing that brought Hitler to power was "The Great Depression" and NOT the reparations of The Versailles Treaty; I just love the way you glossed over that; typical!
There was no talk of Nazism (or Communism) during "The Golden Twenties" in Germany; you're not listening; good for you!
@SatchmoSings It was the reparations Germany had to pay through the years because of the Versailles Treaty that caused Germany to economically collapse later on. Along with Daws Plan being suspended caused unemployment to rise rapidy. Yes In the 20's their economy was going great becuase of the U.S. loans that balanced out Germany until the end of the decade. The reparations was out of their budget and quit paying them just right before Hitler became Chancellor I didn't gloss over anything.
i'm doing a course on military history, specialising in early 20th century warfare, in WW1 the germans would have surrendered anyway so the yank's didn't help, WW2 in europe was won primarily by by Russia but because of Britain's defiance ie battle of Britain ect, meant they had 2fight on 2 front's, even without d day the red army would have reached berlin by 1945, vietnam a draw? really? a massive loss, like the war in afgan atm war's of occupation never work
@captaincorelli123 So you're saying that the US has never been neccessary in a single war? If that's the case, I wouldn't pay two pounds for that history course if you pass it. WW1 was a stalemate when the US entered, and the German offensive towards the end is proof of how essential the US were in ending the war. Hitler'd probably been overthrown by his generals after a couple of years of failure at the Eastern front, and there's a real possibility that they would've been able to stabilize....
A stalemate of the war meant a loss for Germany the longer the war progressed due to the naval blockade. After the bad harvest of 1916and1917 only the army got the food whereas the German civilian population starved. At this point several communist revolutionaries in Germany used the very same arguments that the Russian revolutionaries used.In fact after the armistice the hometurning German troops had their hands full striking down communist rebellions
@AlexDeLarge90 The war was a stalemate, and the Germans were mainly defending, which meant that they hadn't gone through the kinds of catastrophic attacks that the French and British had. If the French were far from giving in I'd ike you to explain the large scale myteries suffered by the French army which paralyzed it on several sections of the front. The Germans' desperate offensive towards the end of the war that was meant to be a final blow before the Americans showed up chewed through a...
@AlexDeLarge90 ...lot of their resources, and still the war kept going for quite a while after the offensive had been defeated and the Americans had turned up. Imagine what'd happened if that offensive hadn't taken place and teh Americans hadn't showed up? It hadn't meant that Germany'd won the war, but keep in mind that the French had almost bled to death, and the Commonwealth was rather worn out as well. If it hadn't been for the US, that war could've gone on for 2-3 years 'til negotiations.
@truffyt The war would not have gone on for that much longer as you claimed; it would have been settled, either militarily or diplomatically within a year.
@SatchmoSings Yes of course, personally I think that would be the maximum amount of time it could have continued before everyone would be completely fed up with it and demanded hasty negotiations.
@truffyt It's amazing that the war went on as long as it did WITHOUT negotiations!
Also your remarks regarding the pace of the war, both with and without Americans and the war being fought offensively vs. defensively are most on the mark.
Sort of like the US Civil War; the mistake that Lee made was not to fight defensively; the South only had to do that to provoke a stalemate and a peace settlement.
The US entry saved a lot of lives in WW1, because it finally became obvious for the Prussian ideal German high command (who also insisted on fighting an unwinnable war in WW2 and staying true to their fuhrer because they had sworn to) that they couldn't possibly win the war. Many Germans knew in 1916 already that the only way to win the war was to slug it out through shear determination. Since the French fought for their land I don't see the invaders succeeding in the long run.
@captaincorelli123 ...the front. Considering that without the US the oil fields in Rumania would've gone unmolested the Germans wouldn't have had such a shortage of fuel either, and their factories would also have been untuched. The Brits with the help of their Commonwealth could probably have held their own in Africa, and odds are that a Germany without Hitler would've negotiated with them. Judging from the rest of your "knowledge", I highly doubt that you are actually attending your class.
The Allied bombing campaign did comparatively little to slow down the German war industry. Originally it was thought that alone would bring them to their knees but by '43 it became clear that didn't have the desired effect. Fact is in 1944 Germany broke its all time record in the production of war materials. You see they relocated a lot of the production underground and in other locations. They also used millions of slave workers from occupied countries to rebuild rapidly.
@captaincorelli123 Uh, with the collapse of Czarist Russia and until July of 1918, the Germans were WINNING the war; they had an extra 3 million men to release upon the Western Front and they launched what was the single, biggest invasion, only exceeded by "Operation Barbarossa" in WWII; even the Germans admitted it was a "race" with US manpower holding the balance.
You and possibly your instructor must be pretty brain-dead.
This film is unbelievable...The general is the bad guy?? It was the Major who ordered them to stay, even when it was obvious they would be overrun. He should have made a fighting withdrawal, instead of getting them all killed...But he can do no wrong because hes a retarded American Patriot.
@problazer10 lol you serious? The general ordered the advance and the flanks were not even covered so they were surrounded. The general ordered them to hold their position and the major complied with the order. Pay attention to what happened you idiot.
movie about the super late hero...
newbie troops can easly beat experience german troops????
yeaaah just in dream.
only outnumber on allies can win..

@BioticBeach I'm fucking tired of this debate. We needed everybody in WW2. There are more important issues to be worrying about right now than who was the main cause of winning a war.
flyersphan111 1 month ago
@flyersphan111
BioticBeach 1 month ago
@BioticBeach Protect marriage from what? I haven't seen anything about it being threatened...

Or at least the ones people 'think' are important. )
BioticBeach 1 month ago
@BioticBeach Haha. The sad thing is that some people would actually make that comment...
flyersphan111 1 month ago
@BioticBeach without the russians we wouldent be able to take berlin or stop the battles in russia so russia pretty munch won ww2
246Tyson 1 month ago
@246Tyson

It is not acceptable.

Millions of a future generation spared from a major Second Great War.

well, usa didnt win the war in a very honorful way. first waiting till 1917 till germany was nearly beaten (letting england, france, italy and russia suffer from war) and then join for some time having much lower losses then all other lands.
usa are not even have as good as canada is. if i was an american i would feel ashamed for this, like for "liberating" europe in 1944 instead of 1939. and afterwards loosing all wars in asia+ middle east. now china is waiting for you illegals (gangsters)
jamestaylor94b 3 months ago
@jamestaylor94b Nah, it's not because we still had a policy of isolation and trying not to entangle alliances with each other. After two World Wars, we set up military bases to prevent you guys from acting aggressively again. I noticed an awful a lot of Germans hated American military bases in their country well do you know bases provide economic growth in Germany? Hope they didn't tell you as that.
Anyways, i do hope Europe pulls themselves instead of relying the USA to do all the work.
Hperman09 3 months ago
@jamestaylor94b USA got brought into the war because a civilian boat was sunk by a german mine so we went into WWI. For WWII we had to prepare the war had already spread and Hitler was knocking on England's doorstep before we could pull our pants up. If you don't know Hitler used a thing called "Blitzkerg" or Lighting War he attacked before anyone could react. Kinda like rushers in Starcraft. lol If you don't have the proper supplies you don't attack yet or you'll get smashed.

maiden1994 2 months ago
@maiden1994 they dropped the bombs because japan and their 'pride' theory would fight on forever.. hiding behind the lives of soldiers is weak... they killed innocent people.. civillians, children,... there is no pride in that... this was a mass murder, not a war. japan was pushed back to its own soil so there was no reason at all!!!

@Killjoy2297 No, I don't mean the rifle being used by the majority of the actors, I'm thoroughly familiar with the M1917 Enfield. This country has no respect; no wonder we're going down the drain.
SatchmoSings 6 months ago
@SatchmoSings Exactly no one today has any clue about WWI. Just wished The U.S. supported Germany during that time would have spared society from WWII ever happening. We all could live with an Eastern section of France under Imperial German control. The French lost fair and square in 1871 and had to whine about it later with a nosey czar and Serbian nationalists to help spark the war.
GSPatton89 6 months ago
@GSPatton89 Look, even if Italy had come in the side of the Central Powers at the start of WW1 maybe that too, would have ended it earlier.
Even if the US had come in on EITHER side (and "realpolitik" dictated that we align with Great Britain) closer to the beginning, it would have saved millions; this was Teddy Roosevelt's argument as an internationalist.
But to many Americans, it was "Why sacrifice US lives to end what Europeans do?"
You can make the argument both ways . . .
SatchmoSings 6 months ago
@SatchmoSings By side I meant through supplies like weapons, ammo and food supplies than sending in U.S. troops. Doing that would give Germany the edge to end the war earlier.
GSPatton89 6 months ago
@GSPatton89 I made the point about Italy and Teddy Roosevelt; also, using your argument, the US could have given greater supplies to the Allies.
I also made the point that "Realpolitik" dictated that ultimately it was in the foreign-policy interests of the US to support Great Britain; the US entered the war not because of unrestricted submarine warfare nor to "Make the World Safe For Democracy" but to preserve the balance of power in our own favor.
SatchmoSings 6 months ago
@SatchmoSings What about the Versailles Treaty? Talk about the worst treaty in world history especially the War Guilt Clause. Blame Germany for something Serbian terrorists and sympathizers in the Serbian Government started? All the actions Germany made such as unrestricted u-boat warfare and tragically invading Belgium was Russia's fault, with a sore losing vengeful France not far behind, for interfering with Serbia rightfully being punished.
GSPatton89 6 months ago
@GSPatton89 the other terrible thing about the Versailles Treaty was that Great Britain kept up its blockade of Germany to force Germany to accept it; even Nazi Germany wasn't treated like this, well, at least not by the Western Allies.
Also busting up the Austrian Empire was also a tragedy; it created a power vacuum in Central Europe that could only be filled by Germany and Imperial Austria was also greater than the "sum of its parts."
SatchmoSings 6 months ago
@GSPatton89 02. In some ways it was natural that Imperial Germany succeed Great Britain as, if not as "the world power" at least the European one; it had more people churning out about the same per-capita output; that makes Germany the wealthier, more powerful SINGULAR nation; this of course, does not take into account other nations the UK could ally itself with.
the mistake BOTH nations made was that the US was even more industrialized with even more people.
SatchmoSings 6 months ago
@SatchmoSings Exactly The U.S. had all the supplies to turn the tide. Too bad England dind't side with Germany would have been great except a family qurrel played a small role.
GSPatton89 6 months ago
@GSPatton89 While I realize you're 21, I find it incredibly odd that you're so in love with the idea of Germany winning WW1.

GSPatton89 6 months ago
@GSPatton89 What brought Hitler to power in Germany is the same thing that brought Franklin Roosevelt to power in the US; it was called "The Great Depression."
During what Germans called "The Golden Twenties" there was no interest in anything remotely "Hitleresque."
But give the Germans 25% unemployment with another 25% UNDERemployment, then you had a Hitler!
SatchmoSings 6 months ago
@SatchmoSings Exactly my point the reparations the Versailles Treaty made Germany pay is what gave Hitler the chance to rise. FDR on the other was a crook and just as much as a dictator as Woodrow Wilson was especially with his laws saying it is a crime to criticize the governemnt which resulted in imprsionment and a huge fine.
GSPatton89 6 months ago
@GSPatton89 Too bad you couldn't read MY point; the thing that brought Hitler to power was "The Great Depression" and NOT the reparations of The Versailles Treaty; I just love the way you glossed over that; typical!
There was no talk of Nazism (or Communism) during "The Golden Twenties" in Germany; you're not listening; good for you!
SatchmoSings 6 months ago
@SatchmoSings It was the reparations Germany had to pay through the years because of the Versailles Treaty that caused Germany to economically collapse later on. Along with Daws Plan being suspended caused unemployment to rise rapidy. Yes In the 20's their economy was going great becuase of the U.S. loans that balanced out Germany until the end of the decade. The reparations was out of their budget and quit paying them just right before Hitler became Chancellor I didn't gloss over anything.

i'm doing a course on military history, specialising in early 20th century warfare, in WW1 the germans would have surrendered anyway so the yank's didn't help, WW2 in europe was won primarily by by Russia but because of Britain's defiance ie battle of Britain ect, meant they had 2fight on 2 front's, even without d day the red army would have reached berlin by 1945, vietnam a draw? really? a massive loss, like the war in afgan atm war's of occupation never work
captaincorelli123 6 months ago
@captaincorelli123 So you're saying that the US has never been neccessary in a single war? If that's the case, I wouldn't pay two pounds for that history course if you pass it. WW1 was a stalemate when the US entered, and the German offensive towards the end is proof of how essential the US were in ending the war. Hitler'd probably been overthrown by his generals after a couple of years of failure at the Eastern front, and there's a real possibility that they would've been able to stabilize....
truffyt 6 months ago
@truffyt
The homefront collapses=War lost
AlexDeLarge90 6 months ago
@AlexDeLarge90 The war was a stalemate, and the Germans were mainly defending, which meant that they hadn't gone through the kinds of catastrophic attacks that the French and British had. If the French were far from giving in I'd ike you to explain the large scale myteries suffered by the French army which paralyzed it on several sections of the front. The Germans' desperate offensive towards the end of the war that was meant to be a final blow before the Americans showed up chewed through a...
truffyt 6 months ago
@AlexDeLarge90 ...lot of their resources, and still the war kept going for quite a while after the offensive had been defeated and the Americans had turned up. Imagine what'd happened if that offensive hadn't taken place and teh Americans hadn't showed up? It hadn't meant that Germany'd won the war, but keep in mind that the French had almost bled to death, and the Commonwealth was rather worn out as well. If it hadn't been for the US, that war could've gone on for 2-3 years 'til negotiations.
truffyt 6 months ago
@truffyt The war would not have gone on for that much longer as you claimed; it would have been settled, either militarily or diplomatically within a year.
SatchmoSings 6 months ago
@SatchmoSings Yes of course, personally I think that would be the maximum amount of time it could have continued before everyone would be completely fed up with it and demanded hasty negotiations.
truffyt 6 months ago
@truffyt It's amazing that the war went on as long as it did WITHOUT negotiations!
Also your remarks regarding the pace of the war, both with and without Americans and the war being fought offensively vs. defensively are most on the mark.
Sort of like the US Civil War; the mistake that Lee made was not to fight defensively; the South only had to do that to provoke a stalemate and a peace settlement.
SatchmoSings 6 months ago
@truffyt
AlexDeLarge90 6 months ago
@captaincorelli123 ...the front. Considering that without the US the oil fields in Rumania would've gone unmolested the Germans wouldn't have had such a shortage of fuel either, and their factories would also have been untuched. The Brits with the help of their Commonwealth could probably have held their own in Africa, and odds are that a Germany without Hitler would've negotiated with them. Judging from the rest of your "knowledge", I highly doubt that you are actually attending your class.
truffyt 6 months ago
@truffyt
AlexDeLarge90 6 months ago
@captaincorelli123 Uh, with the collapse of Czarist Russia and until July of 1918, the Germans were WINNING the war; they had an extra 3 million men to release upon the Western Front and they launched what was the single, biggest invasion, only exceeded by "Operation Barbarossa" in WWII; even the Germans admitted it was a "race" with US manpower holding the balance.
You and possibly your instructor must be pretty brain-dead.

@problazer10 lol you serious? The general ordered the advance and the flanks were not even covered so they were surrounded. The general ordered them to hold their position and the major complied with the order. Pay attention to what happened you idiot.
