Private sector medicine is a joke in theory. American's realize this. The big major insurance companies have ONE major priority, and that is to report profits to it's shareholders. 2nd priority is to make enough money to operate itself, and then 3rd offer some care that isn't really good for all but great for the ones who can afford the most comprehensive package. This banter about how the private sector promotes competition is moot. Private sector cuts corners for profits. I am a socialist. YAY
It is AMAZING to me that rather than 1st fixing the overspending of Medicaid as was suggested to show that govt could manage at least something right. they decided to see if they could RAM health care down our throats...Thats because they know they can't save money on anything! Want the truth? Ask yourself why no lawyers are fighting this bill.....This health care IS NOT good for the people... but it's "great" for power hungry politicians and gready lawyers. FACT!
"FORCED" health care is anti constitutional and anti American and will not pass. America was built on capitalism that is a fact....Thats because the founding father knew that free trade and freedom go hand in hand. Health care is NOT a birth right. It is my "responsibility" to care for myself, I can NOT FORCE someone else who may make more money to cover my expense... that is slavery! And communism plain and simple.
To many people are reading into realitychckr comment that doesn't belong there. If you read not scan what is said you would know that he said "we need the public option". He is not saying blame the victim.
I think most of us know that if we lived a healthier life we would be better off, but that does not mean that you still wouldn't need a doctor. Why fight against ourselves? We have more then enough of that going on in Congress. Zip off a letter to your Congressman and tell them how you fel
Here in Europe I pay the equivalent of 200 dollars per month & have FULL coverage, NO deductible on ANYTHING. If they do it in Europe & it works, then it can be done in the USA, & it should be done. It's the system Senator Sanders mentions in this video, a single payer public option. This system is used in most of Europe, & I believe it is the same system in Canada. I'm much more fortunate than Americans. But Americans are brainwashed into screaming "Marxism" or "Communism". That's ridiculous.
Correction, my entire health care payment per month is about 130 dollars per month. I had to have an operation a few years ago & was in the hospital for two weeks. I paid nothing. When I go to the doctor, it's free, when I take a prescription to the pharmacy, it has never cost over five bucks. Sounds incredible, but is true, & this system I assure you the U.S. health companies DO know about. They DO NOT want Americans to know about it. The system would destroy their huge profits.

Liberals are killing America and freedom so that all nations will be equal under the New World Government. Freedom is dead. Pelousy's H/C bill confirms that government will have final say over who lives and who is put to death by retention of care.
It's all over folks, thanks to Oblama, Pelousy, Reid and the dem controlled congress.
If people would practice everyday simple things to prevent illness, instead of waiting until the last minute to go to the ER, we wouldn't have such a mess with health care. A good deal of chronic diseases in this country are preventable if people take care of themselves.
You know you're right. We shouldn't bother with health care reform. Let's let the insurance industry string people along for years and years, and take their money only to pull the rug out from under them when they get sick. Let's keep paying for mansions for CEO's while sick children are denied coverage. Let's bankrupt every small business by keeping the monopoly on insurance the industry enjoys.
Sorry if you all misunderstood my comment; I'm for healthcare reform and we need the public option, but we also need to take better care of ourselves too.
realitychckr, I understood what you were saying, it seems most of these people are just not reading the post, maybe they are mad with the Dems in Congress that are not voting as Dems and are taking your comment out of context.
Hmmm, you first tell me that I'm blaming the victims because YOU misunderstood my first comment, and now you say I have an intellect issue because you didn't like my reply?
In the Fall of 1921, the health of the city was unusually good, but slow for the doctors. So the Jackson Medical Society met and resolved to make an epidemic in the city. According to the minutes of this meeting: MOTION WAS MADE AND SECONDED, THAT A RECOMMENDATION BE MADE BY THE COMMITTEE, TO THE BOARD OF HEALTH, THAT AN EPIDEMIC OF SMALLPOX BE DECLARED IN THE CITY. (Investigation later revealed that there was NO SIGN OF AN EPIDEMIC at the time, in the city, or anywhere in the state or region
Single payer has its merits, but our current health care system is based on employer provided health insurance and private insurance companies. we do not neccesarily need to scrap our entire system and start from scratch, this is why the public option is a perfect compromise. The public option benefits from the capitalist ideal of competition producing better results AND the democratic ideal of social needs being provided by the state which is under OUR democratic control.
Consumer choice is the solution to a flawed health care system fueled by health insurance. Having insurance based on choice would enable policyholders to use nutritional supplements, acupuncture, personal trainers, and/or massage therapy in place of prescription drugs. If done, drug companies would crumble and people would begin to see the benefits of alternatives. [2006] Interview of Shane Ellison author of Health Myths Exposed
Health insurance is an illusion. In reality, it is a means by which medical doctors and drug companies monopolize their power. It dictates the use of prescripion drugs and nothing else. When a person has "health insurance" they must, by default, choose prescriptin drugs. This is the only way their investment can be returned. Therefre, most will never question doctor orders or seek alternatives; they will simply swallw the pill that makes them ill. Having health insurance elimintes choice
but filth you have the choice to not see a doctor whether or not you have insurance. If you really hate doctors you can just not go to one. Shit i bet you could get away with not obeying the individual mandate. But if(well we're americans i should say when) you come down with cancer your family will go broke trying to keep your ass alive and all the regret in the world won't take you back in time to get insurance.
what you ignore that is also that it also eliminates other choices - you have to have only the high-tech x-rays when they drag your broken body in from some unfortunate accident. you have to have the mri's and iv's and the silly life-saving drugs that they'll treat you with AND YOU DON'T HAVE A CHOICE! What is the world coming to!? And this will NEVER return your investment in health care through your insurance.
I have health insurance, high end stuff, unionized company insurance, and I can tell you what you said is absolute Bull. I can go to a doctor or not, I can take prescription drugs or not, I can get generics, though I do have to pay more for the name brands, I can go to the hospital or stay home and die. It's all my choice.
If I didn't have insurance I would have a lot fewer choices, all on the no side.
your so called high end health insurance will not pay for natural or so called alternative treatment that work ... only AMA drug trusts treatments get approved...it is in fact a "stealth dictatorship" try to cure your cancer with herbs and see how much your high end bullshit pays for
Medical care should be a non-profit enterprise. There can still be competition between non-profit entities. We want to draw those with a service-orientation to medicine. Those who are better motivated by profit should become inventors, investors, merchants of goods. Not everyone is motivated by the same thing. The combination of profit-seeking and healthcare delivery has brought us to this point. People turn to government in a crisis. The insurance companies should not be surprised.
HERE IS SOMETHING FOR THOSE OF YOU AGAINST PUBLIC OPTION. I have H1N1 and I'm a low income student. I called the health department for help but they are booked a month out. In the mean time I will struggle every day with my asthma because I have no inhalers. This could kill me. Lastly and most importantly for you, I work at a popular restraunt as a cook. I handle YOUR food. I can't afford to call off. So next bite might be your last. Only if there was a public option it could be avoided
WOW! I support of the public option wholeheartedly- we need it desperately! However, you should try to watch how you frame your argument- threatening people with H1N1 is not cool- and it removes credence from our argument- you should say something like: regardless of people being seriously ill, they still come into work, thus spreading their disease!
Btw, I don't think you have H1N1 if you're well enough to argue, threaten, and go to work- my heart goes out to you- I too am uninsured!
Fuck that. The opposition can say crazy shit with fiction, I can say it crazy shit with the truth. I am sick with the flu and the only medication I have is whisky, orange juice, and wal-mart brand inhalers that do nothing for my asthma. Sorry it sounds fake but the world we are in can be unreal sometimes.
if you think the government does not intervene in the market you are not doing your homework. fire department, police department, social security, medicare, medicaid, unemployment, workfare, and everything a state buys(from billion dollar stealth fighters to toilet paper for the capitol building) are ALL interventions of the state in the "free" market. Social needs are always embedded in the market. There has NEVER and will NEVER be a market that is completely free from state intervention kid.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that you guys are not amongst the million that will declare bankruptcy this year as a result of medical bills.
I wonder if you would satisfy my curiosity and tell me what kind of insurance you have.
private insurance pushed all their sick on to medicare when it came around. So there is first of all a larger concentration of elderly and sick. But in the 90s medicare kept better control of costs. Every survey done finds that people on medicare are much more satisfied with their insurance than the privately insured.
I have sent you a private message with a link to a peer reviewed journal article. Anyone else who wants the cite can feel free to message me.
1000 dollars a month!!!!! what on earth is going on in that country!?!?!? . these helth insurance companies need to be closed down and the CEOs put in jail!! for our national health service we pay from 5 to 50 pound s a month each. in most cases i can see a doctor and get medication. if i work i pay a small fee for my medication. THATS IT! land of opportunity? more like land of opportunists!
Thanks for contributing. I've said the same thing (I live in Europe, too). Americans have been getting absolutely raped on their health care, but the big industries just keep pushing the propaganda to keep enough Americans fooled so that the system can continue ripping them off. When we point this out (the truth), we are frequently considered "brainless liberals". This isn't about being liberal or conservative, it really isn't; they have tricked you into thinking that way. Wake up, Americans...
"Financed by the taxpayers, these Drug Trust persecutions leave no stone unturned to destroy the victim. If he is a small operator, the resulting attorney's fees and court costs put him out of business. In one case, a Dr. Adolphus Hohensee of Scranton, Pa., who had stated that vitamins (he used natural ones) were vital to good health, was taken to court The AMA furnished ten medicos who reversed all known medical theories by testifying that vitamins are not necessary to the human body and won.
Socialism will only raise the cost of medical care. We have been socializing it since the 1960's and prices have been rising ever since. This isnt the only example. Take the cost of college tuition and our completely failed socialized schools. The list goes on and on.
Prices keep going up for lack of real socialism. In a true socialist state the rich would be heavily taxed and that money used to fund medical cost and schools. If the rich payed their fair share we could fund all the schools in America.
Our definition of rich is a bit askewed. We all think of "rich" as being Bill Gates, or some wall street members. We need to change this. Rich...is the Federal Reserve. The elite private corrupt unconstitutional banking cartel that collects are income taxes and "legally" gambles our future. They collect TRILLIONS of untaxable dollars every year and not one of them ever makes the news. The TRILLIONS they make every year is PURE PROFIT, it does not go back to our country.
Wrong, America has been privatizing it since the 60's, and it is actually the failure to socialize it that has caused consistently rising health care costs. Same with college tuition.
Google this: "Space aliens land on earth". Look, I like many of the ideas of libertarians, & consider myself strongly libertarian in some ways. However, I have researched this more deeply than googling up an article by a libertarian website. I agree with you on some things, i.e., personally, I think banning the Fed Res & going back to the gold standard would be good, though I think impossible. Government does have a role to play, including stopping corps from abusing American health care.
BTW college tuition has skyrocketed mostly because our government stepped in and gave students very low interest loans. Sounds good right? Well since all those people received these low interest loans the price of tuition skyrocketed as a result. Nothing like becoming a low interest slave.
Better than a high interest slave. I received pell grants and work study and lots of gov subsidy to help me get through universities and obtain degrees. I probably could not have afforded college otherwise. Please don't distort a low interest loan into "skyrocketing tuition", it's plainly absurd, and you need to do more than latch on to one ideology (libertarian, in your case). Study economics and do in-depth research. Googling biased shit ain't gonna get it, googleboy...
Before the 60s (guessing at timeline) people were working part time jobs and going to school (yeah that was the price of tuition). Pay as you go, so to speak. No interest and no skyrocketing tuition.
As for a higher interest rate: Would you rather have a $50k loan at 3%, or a 10k loan at 10%? For the same education.
When it comes down to private corporate Profit or the policyholder's Health, the profit motive wins every time....in fact it's what corporations are duty-bound to do! What's best for Healthcare, Inc. is NOT what's best for the patient, but what's profitable for the insurer.
Nothing reveals the gullibility (stupidity) of people more than their stance against "socialized" medicine....or maybe they just enjoy paying MORE for healthcare than it's worth and are willing to pay a corporation twice what it costs to provide it...just so private insurers can continue to profit obscenely from paying LESS in claims.
"When the insurance companies WIN, we the consumers LOSE."
'For profit healthcare' is UNETHICAL, and a DISASTER!
Since I lost my job, I have NOT been able to get health insurance for 2 years now, due to my 'pre-existing condition'! Which is, get this, hypertension! I have slight high blood pressure, which one third of our population has! And those bastards won't insure me!!!!! What a SICK country we live in.
Keep in mind that a single payer Government run system leaves you NO CHOICE NO COMPETITION You can never opt out.
The bills being debated will tax the heck out of all of us. They will hide it by taxing employers and insurance which will be passed onto consumers. We would be better off to do nothing then pass these massive spending taxing bills. While nothing in them will cut rising cost but actually add to it.
You are either truly ignorant or a shill for the insurance industry. Having worked for Blue Cross for many years, I know where your insurance dollars go - at least 30%. Private jets, country club memberships, drug and alcohol rehab for top management, $500 lunches, frivolous trips for needless "business" meetings in exotic places and all the rest. Single Payer - Medicare - makes sense. You have full choice of providers. You don't know this - you are just ignorant.
There is far less waste in the private sector none the less because they do want to make a profit, they invest your premiums to make money. Most Insurance operate at about a 3% profit margin. If it was a true free market system bad companies wouldn't be in business. I don't have enough room to explain.
Last year Medicare/medicaid wasted up to 200 billion on fraud and abuse. Your Senators and Congressman get free lunches everyday and flights all over. They have cadilac insurance you pay for.
what a liar you are quizzery ... they spend 25% at least on "administrative" costs while dumping all the sick people they can on medicare they are parasites
medicare consistently maintains better price controls than private insurance. You are getting faulty information quizerry.
Or you are purposefully disseminating disinformation. You say that private sectors are less wastefu(without a citation), because private companies spend billions on marketing which a public option would not need to do. . Stopping fraud and abuse PREVENTS the wasting of money. compare those "wasted" billions with the billions spent on marketing.
Not to burst your bubble but medicare is a money pit.
I want to be clear on one thing here. Our medical industry was the Gold Standard of medical care at one time (until the 60's). Then government stepped in and prices have been going up ever since.
Government intervention is what lead us here and now we think more is going to fix it.
you believe? where is your citation? Can you at least let me know whos word you took without checking their cite? I want to know which cult you are a part of.
If you think medical was awesome until the 60s maybe you should look at nixon. People wanted health care reform, he gave it to them. Just like today, people want health care and we're going to get it despite the vocal minority and their disinformation machine (thats the one you're a shill for).
that "waste" you talk about is called providing a service. you have a "socialised" fire brigade dont you? otherwise they would carry out an arson investigation before deciding to put your fire out!!!
Please consider how much money Blue Cross and all the pharmaceutical & insurance companies pay to confuse Americans. I understand why so many Americans believe what quizerry believes, they have heard it a thousand times from politicians (paid by lobbyists), from media "experts" (in the pocket of big biz). You have to be educated to see through the smoke. The average American is hit with the big lie a hundred times a day. Their ignorance is no accident.
The USDA'S Food Irradiation Plot by Mike Adams US food and health authorities, in league with corporations, are enacting plans to sterilise the fresh food supply with irradiation, thus destroying essential disease-fighting nutrients and promoting a sick society,
"The whole area of effects caused by toxic chemicals is murky, because the medical cartel does not want to implicate certain corporations in crimes of magnitude. And because the medical boys are always on the prowl for germs. And because many toxic chemicals turn out to be medicines."--Jon Rappoport
[Ignoring or turning a blind eye is covert-suppression. Something you can get away with if you have a cartel in medicine, government and media. The Food cartel creates the disease that the Medical cartel makes all its money on.
@finefilth thank you for illustrating the insanity behind opposing health care reform. One would have to believe that the WNO is casting spells on them with vaccines in order to be opposed to policies which seek to bring relief to those facing medical bankruptcy and those families suffering because of the burden of medical bills.
your local taxes help pay for the portion of uncompensated care that hospitals absorb, u kids who want everything for free but not pay taxes for it should love this.
Today in America the practice of medicine is not free. It is one of the most tightly controlled commercial enterprises in the world. That is why it produces such extraordinary income for it's favored and such misery, disease and death for its victims.
Many believe that our Food and Drug Administration, FDA, represents the American people and that the FDA acts to insure that our food and drugs are safe and effective. Nothing could be further from the truth. The FDA acts entirely to restrain and manage competition between and among those that manufacture our food and drugs. They do this only for the purpose of minimizing competition in business. Rockefeller is famous for proclaiming the only sin is competition.
In the ordinary course of events, good medicine would eventually drive out bad medicine. As more and more people discover ways to maintain and improve their health, without drug therapy, they will simply abandon bad medicine and resort to alternative therapies.
Indeed, this is happening. Also happening is a concerted government effort to discredit and declare unlawful those effective therapies that represent the greatest threat to orthodox medicine. In the last fifty years many effective cures have been developed for many of the major killer diseases that we have. In each instance the developer has been branded a quack, his business has been ruined and in some cases he has been sent to
the medical game is money, a means had to be devised to provide the patient with money that could only be used to pay for approved medical treatment. Enter the insurance company concept. Today employees have, as an important part of their remuneration for their work, a health insurance policy. This health insurance policy does not pay for all health related needs; it only pays for those health related services that are approved. These, of course, are the synthetic drug therapies that dont work
Your theory on the origins of insurance are a reflection of laziness in your truth seeking.
Funds of ensurance were set up because most humans realized they would be effed in the eh if any illness struck their family. So everyone in town threw down on a fund of ensurance, and if someone in the village got sick and they had to pay out the nose for blood letting then the fund of ensurance would cover them.
Insurance is a social need, arguing otherwise is social darwinist bullshit.
I believe you are a asill for for medical fascist parasitism ... did you know that cures for all disease exist and are suppressed by the medical cartel and certainly not paid for the gate keeper insurance companies?
"They are running a monopoly and they will lie, cheat and steal to keep it that way."---Dr Eva Snead
For over 100 years non-Allopathic medicine has been suppressed, (with many alternative doctors persecuted or assassinated), along with many known disease causes & hazards (eg root canals, mercury amalgam, vaccine mercury, bowel toxemia), while well know poisons are not only ignored but actively promoted (eg Aspartame, Junk Food, Fluoride). It takes some sort of power and evil to do this and get away with it, which is what most people don't want to think about.
You know what we call alternative medicine thats been proven to work?
Its called medicine.
Junk food isn't promoted by the AMA.
Do you really think that all of the real doctors in the world study their asses off for 10+ years, incur huge student loan debt & work tirelessly all so they can either be part of a conspiracy of making people sick? Or do they not really understand how their treatments work, but you & your "alternative" guru do?
Every practitioner of the healing art who does not ally himself with the medical trust is denounced as a 'dangerous quack' and impostor by the predatory trust doctors. Every sanitarian who attempts to restore the sick to a state of health by natural means without resort to the knife or poisonous drugs, disease imparting serums, deadly toxins or vaccines, is at once pounced upon by these medical tyrants and fanatics, bitterly denounced, vilified and persecuted to the fullest extent"--J.W Hodge MD
The medical monopoly or medical trust, euphemistically called the American Medical Association, is not merely the meanest monopoly ever organized, but the most arrogant, dangerous and despotic organisation which ever managed a free people in this or any other age. Any and all methods of healing the sick by means of safe, simple and natural remedies are sure to be assailed and denounced by the arrogant leaders of the AMA doctors' trust as fakes, frauds and humbugs.
The Cardiac surgeon, for example, does nothing whatsoever to cure cardiac disease. Three to five percent of the heart surgery patients die on the operating table. Cardiac surgery provides no better three year survival rate than no treatment at all. A Harvard survival study of 200,000 patients revealed that the long term survival rate of patients subjected to surgery was no better than the survival rate of those that had no surgery. GANGSTERS IN MEDICINE By Thomas Smith
A large part of this medical disaster that the United States currently experiences is due to the way our medical community is organized. Basically it is not organized to heal and to cure disease; the medical community, particularly at its upper levels, is a commercial venture organized to make money for its practitioners. CONTINUED
Here's one of the MAIN reasons Big Insurance and Big Pharma do NOT want single payer health insurance. Individuals can NOT indict or subpoena an insurance company for profiteering or denial of benefits, BUT THE GOVERNMENT CAN. THIS is the health care lobby's biggest nightmare. This is why we need single payer health care.
Republican Senator John McCain, who is a total Internet illiterate, just introduced a Senate bill to allow providers to LIMIT your internet access and CHARGE EXTRA for accessing the Web.
Oh yeah BTW, Republican Senator McCain is the #1 recipient of donations from Telecom companies. Duhh??? How could we guess?

Sure is that's why were the 37th on the health care quality scale according to the World Health Care Organization. And we spend more than any other country on health-care. If there weren't any problems, this whole discussion wouldn't be happening. Over 60 percent of the bankruptcies in this country are a result of health-care expenses. 78 percent of those bankruptcies are from families WITH health insurance.
the medical fascist monopoly give you disease with their poison vaccines and toxic "medicine".. their business partners in the food and chemical monopoly make for your food toxic and conducive to more disease.. how about their military companies that spread DU all over the place to dispense millions of highly profitable cases of diabetes and cancer and birth defects this is a slaughter
they make you use it..alternatives are suppressed and not paid for by the dug cartels gate keeper insurance companies.. try getting food stamps or going to school without your kids getting their vaccination sorcery shots out.. the NWO s favorite murder tool will be the medical cartel maddated into law and dictated poionings
this evil parasite is trying to attatch itself onto the host permanently and make its safe competition illegal
at the highest levels of the medical cartel, vaccines are a top priority because they cause a weakening of the immune system. I know that may be hard to accept, but it's true. The medical cartel, at the highest level, is not out to help people, it is out to harm them, to weaken them. To kill them--John Rappaport-- vaccine researcher
You don't mean the robustly successful "cash for clunkers" program right? And as for the 9 month wait, that's B.S. sorry chump, you've been dupe again.
As a small business owner, I am convinced that single payer is the ONLY solution. Anything less is a compromise that essentially funds parasites. The surest way to reclaim a government "by the People" is to starve the parasites.
I'm with Bernie!!! So would MOST of America if they understood what REALLY was going on... Keep fighting Bernie. It's soooo appreciated. Vermont leads the way.
No, Britain's healthcare DOES NOT suck! I was born in England and lived there for 32 years, then came to the US, have lived here in Massachusetts for 30 years. I am a citizen and think this is a great country. However, this healthcare sucks. I had my 4 children in England and never had any problem getting my medical needs taken care of. Here, my husband and are are educated, self employed people without coverage because we can't afford around $1,200 a month. Disgraceful!!
You should be aware that I'm still allowed to act like a kid. But when I do care to get mature, I do so with respect and fairness. I will freely admit it if I'm wrong. You should show respect and fairness to me as well. If you want to talk about religion, that's where I can really debate well. So, yeah bring it.
You show a total lack of respect for the entire british healthcare system of which you obviously know only what your parents and fox news have told you.
If you want respect you can start by apologizing to that lady of your extremely childish remarks.
For you this subject is a just another game to play .
I don't believe I said anything disrespectful to the lady. I simply made a point. I didn't call her stupid, or say her life is worthless, or treat her like she wasnt an intelligent human being. But, you did say all that to me. And, I'm afraid I can't go back to my video games, because I'm busy enough with school that I haven't been able to flip on the xbox or turn on the TV for a very long time. Also, judging me because of the videos I watch on youtube is a cheap shot.
Also, you guys seem to dislike fox news a lot. (Weren't you the one who called it faux news?) That's a funny catch phrase, but no one called it faux news before Obama's people said it was faux news. What does that say about your objectiveness? Why is fox news so bad? Please explain. Cause I'm playing this game to learn. Again, if you make a good point, I will surely agree with you.
The term faux news was in vogue way before the Obama administration took office. I heard it and saw it in print at least five years ago. Brave New Films did a great documentary called Out Foxed... check it out.
Oh dear, was it? This was the first time I've heard it. I don't trust brave new flicks, simply because they lied about those Rush Limbaugh quotes. Obviously everyone else did to, but brave new films is/are clearly not exactly champions of truth. Why do they call fox news faux news?
Fox news insults my intelligence frequently. I don't like how they try to shape my thinking about anything from fighting terrorism to portraying public health care as Marxism. They yell a lot & use anger, but there isn't actually any analysis or thinking behind what they do. They were the worst at using "patriotism" to get the war going, they don't offer more than one point of view (THEIRS), & that's BAD journalism. I work in journalism (& teach it). I see Fox as slanted political soap-boxing.
Well, I'm glad someone was compassionate enough to enlighten me. I found your analysis of the analyses made by fox news to be intelligent and comprehensible and, acceptable. Nice work. (And forgive my condescending tone, I condescend on everyone alike.)
YOU condescending? Look at all these people pointing out you are 15 as though that means you're dumb. I really appreciate a smart 15 year old who at least cares about the topics discussed here, & your questions are quite intelligent. Asking the right questions is the entire meaning of education. Keep up the good work; you're the kind of American that gives me hope. I'll keep asking questions, & you keep doing the same. Maybe we'll both arrive at our own justified true beliefs that will coincide.
Wow, man, that really made my day! Thanks a lot! Here I was thinking everyone was real nasty, and then you come in and treat me like an adult. I was about to give up, but now, I think I will keep asking questions. Thank you very much.
Thank you back. You deserve to feel like an adult because you think like one. Most importantly, you're still willing to suspend your judgments & keep seeking info to form your judgments. I still do that even with people who seem to think they have all the answers. I assure you I know nearly nothing 100%, but I do have opinions based on 40 years of reading & thinking. You will be the same when you are my age, & that seems rare these days. Good luck to you, & keep inquiring. You lead the future...
Besides, the majority of Americans want a robust public option, so what's the hold up? Are they putting lobbyists before the welfare of the citizens they represent? Why is Mr. Sanders the only one speaking out?
this discussion shows how stupid and blindfolded americans are..
EVERY CIVILISED COUNTRY on this globe has a widely socialised healthcare system..except the US... does this tell us something about socialised healthcare and/or the USA ?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Government should not be allow to run healthcare, they really should not be allowed the run government. What needs to happen is make the concept of insurance illegal and let people pay for their own healthcare... It would make healthcare affordable and keep our Government from screwing yet one more thing completely up.
Let people pay for thier own healthcare? How in the hell does that make healthcare affordable? Your stupid, nobody in the middle or lower classes would EVER get the healthcare they needed if there was no insurance or anything at all.
There is alway a market for everyone... Do you think poor people do not have cars... Do poor people in American not have electricity.. water, toys, Lawns.... Yes Poor people do, because a market was made for them... Commie...you dumbasses call me names having no idea how markets work, how economies work... All you can think about is how to take from one set of people and give to others in a naive effort of equality set by your twisted definitions of fairness... Then call me stupid.
First off I've taken microeconomics and marketing at OSU. Where does your diploma come from? Secondly, when a poor person drives thier piece of shit car it doesn't cost them thousands of dollars every time. Most poor people don't have insurance nor do they go to the doctor as self pay unless it's an emergency. And then if they do they are screwed. Just like me. I'm sick as fuck right now, and I can't go to the doctor. I only hope it's not h1n1 and it doesn't get to my lungs with my asthma.
Totally not true... You go to any hospital and by law in almost every state they can not deny you healthcare.. My diploma is in applied math... something that involves logic. Something completely unused and desperately needed in business and in healthcare.... I also worked 10 years in the healthcare insurance, I know without a doubt the crooks and thieves in insurance... The problem is I also know the thieves and low life scum in our Government... Not good mix nor a good fix..
I never said you would be denied care. Not once. I said the people are screwed because they can't afford to pay thousands of dollars every time they get sick or hurt. They just won't go to the doctor leaving thier health to chance.
Thanks for expressing the basic grounds of reason. It really is as simple as you state it. When health care gets as expensive as rent, something is fundamentally wrong. In Europe, my health care is one tenth the price of what people rent for a typical apartment. That's a big difference, one that expresses a 90% reduction in the cost of health care, but which is NOT less in quality. The whole "state socialism" argument is a diversion from reality, although many Americans believe in the diversion.
Thanks for trying Bernie. You are one of the few that get it. The "debate" on health care reform is A GREAT DISTRACTION. What this country needs is a LEGION OF PROCTOLOGIST , The heads of many in congress are located in the wrong part of their anatomy. The citizenry could use a treatment from this legion as well. Seems that "THE PENIS OF WALL STREET" is begining to fester in "the place" banksters choose to keep it.
ENFORCE THE LAWS..PROSECUTE THE FRAUDSTER BANKSTERS. STOP THIS CHIRADE
free market health care is the best health care ever invented. but no one understands this they want freebies that really ant free and which bring about the shitiest system ever invented by man
"Free market" health care? You should define that. Dickensonian England was a "free market"; children were slave labor & the poor were thrown into debtor's prisons. An entirely free market always leads to a few rich & a lot of poor- always. As soon as we Americans decided the "free market" principles were bad for the average American, we set up regulations, then corporations/factories moved to where those regulations don't exist, i.e. Asia & South America. A totally "free market" hurts everyone
corporations/factories move because its to expenisive to produce in OVERREGULATED countries like big government countries. the cost are enormous. they need cut cost or they themselves will die. if they dont then everyone dies.
what really leads to monoplies and a disproportional wealthy class is the inflation of money.
for example the central bank inflates the money supply untill there is twice as much money chasing the same amount of goods. those who get in on the money creation first gain all the wealth once the money has filter through the system. this is what creates the imbalnce of wealth and increases poverty its not the free markets fault. free markets give the middle class there wealth silly.
You're demonstrating a lack of knowledge not to know the difference between "your" and "you're". That makes it even harder to give you any credibility.
listen fool your not going to extend words just for the sake of apearing smart but to fit as much as you can in as small as space as you can. your, you're, were, where wear who gives afuck idiot. wake up and shut up about economics you know absolutely nothing about. everything you speak is trash and WRONG. you have ZERO clue on what you discuss here and i find it extremely offensive that an idiot such as your slef is speaking on subjects which you obviously have no idea about.
Without a free market there would be ZERO food and ZERO wealth for anyone. China finally is begining to feed its people as a result of the adoption of capitalism. if companies are shipping there businesses over there its because its to expensive to carry out all the stupid unecessary administration cost they are forced to carry out here. you obviously have ZERO idea why companies ship there work overseas and unjustly blame the free market for things it has nothing to do with. you twit.
move to communist russia where the free market is not that big and you'll find there is a wealthy elite suppressing there people. putin is worth over 40 billion himself. oops? what about north korea which has ZERO free market there is a HUGE povety class and minute middle class yet is a wealthy elite who rule the country and suppress the entire population. a horrible place. obviously a free market has nothing to do with abnormal wealth distributions is there IDIOT? get it loser? get it right !!
You're just creating straw man arguments and completely oversimplifying economics. Not only that, you then call ME an idiot for your own idiotic oversimplifications. Rather outrageous-- and completely clueless...
you obviously have nothing to counter the facts i have prsented, and are deliberately distorting what the free market is. economics is the study of cause and effect nothing more loser. you cant accurately point out whats causing your countries loss of jobs can you? or what causes poverty?
you ramble on like you have studied and understand all the problems but its clear ""your"" just another contributor who will only exacerbate our problems further.
That's the difference between me & you. I don't profess to have all the answers, but America's problems are sure as hell not caused by the brainless and oversimplified cause you attribute to everything (government involvement). I don't know where you got the notion that a totally free and unregulated market is how heaven works, but that's false, and history has demonstrated that time and again. Health care is a good example. A free market allows insurers to drop people, refuse to cover them etc.
There you go again, oversimplifying. Government regulation causes unemployment, government regulation causes inflation, government regulation causes cancer, government regulation causes teenage pregnancy, government regulation causes the little green men in my head to call other people idiots & losers-- but the free market, it causes beauty, truth, gold-paved streets, teenage abstinence, the pleasant smell of my own bullshit. You're a joke. I had space to spell like a nonspanishaustralian idiot.
history has no demonstartions of totally free markets idiot it has never ever existed. you dumb idiot. i never said i profess to know everything ever. fre market health care enables the best and most effective solutions to survive only so everyone in the country gets to enjoy the best most advanced health the human race can invent. socialist health care has no incentives to creat or invent. you get stuck with the same old same old. the system can never evolve its stays primitive.
and once again you come up with zero convincing arguments of what is really going on. fail to explain anything useful. government regulations cause many, many unintended consequences that you cant see directly. but indirectly ruin so much of our wonderful 200 yr experiment with free markets. dont worry we will eventually go back to the socialist tyrannic systems before our invention of free markets came to exist. thanks to people like you.
if you had 100 goods in a country. and a hundred dollars circulating in the country then each good cost $1 each ok. when the central bankers and banks come along and increase the money supply to $200 dollars all the goods must now be worth $2 each. the inflationist can buy half of all goods in the country. they gain half the wealth without creating or inventing anything. they steal it through inflation. this concept is what causes extreme wealth distribution its not the fault of fre markets DH.
Another obtuse and simpleminded model. Then you throw a word like "socialist" with your meaning rather than a real-world, complex definition. You see everything in black and white, It must be "free market" or "socialist government tyranny", and it must be nice to see the world the way you do, so that everybody else is wrong, and everybody else is an idiot because they don't understand your amazing (brainless) analysis of economics and the problem with governments. Bye idiot, keep on preaching...
i have studied a variety of economic schools. all you ever get to hear from the mainstream is keynesian vodoo rubbish im past that. no wonder your views are so worng and distorted. your a mainstream cheerleader. and really you fail to prove anything to me other than your ignorances to truths. loser.
this is obviously oversimplifying the concept but its an intro to what is really going on. you must understand that the free market is wrongfully being blamed by a currupt socialist rule in all our countries. understand that free markets raise the living standard of an entire country without it we sink back into poverty again. we join countries like russia, north korea, etc. places with little if any free markets yet still disproportionally wealth imbalanced.
free market hasnt existed because there is strong fear that it would lead to inernational monopolies( a bad thing)
socialist health care has no incentives? but healthcare doesnt have anything to do with medical research or do you think medical advances are only made in the u.s?
socialist healthcare care has no one to compete with so we get stuck with current system and nothing improves. there is no incentive to improve because they get paid regardless of performance. governemnt run enterprize will forever c

Founding fathers also said only white men property owners could vote too.

SinclairNicholas 2 years ago
Correction, my entire health care payment per month is about 130 dollars per month. I had to have an operation a few years ago & was in the hospital for two weeks. I paid nothing. When I go to the doctor, it's free, when I take a prescription to the pharmacy, it has never cost over five bucks. Sounds incredible, but is true, & this system I assure you the U.S. health companies DO know about. They DO NOT want Americans to know about it. The system would destroy their huge profits.

Let's just diet and exercise our problems away...

[2006] Interview of Shane Ellison author of Health Myths Exposed
finefilth 2 years ago
Health insurance is an illusion. In reality, it is a means by which medical doctors and drug companies monopolize their power. It dictates the use of prescripion drugs and nothing else. When a person has "health insurance" they must, by default, choose prescriptin drugs. This is the only way their investment can be returned. Therefre, most will never question doctor orders or seek alternatives; they will simply swallw the pill that makes them ill. Having health insurance elimintes choice
finefilth 2 years ago
but filth you have the choice to not see a doctor whether or not you have insurance. If you really hate doctors you can just not go to one. Shit i bet you could get away with not obeying the individual mandate. But if(well we're americans i should say when) you come down with cancer your family will go broke trying to keep your ass alive and all the regret in the world won't take you back in time to get insurance.
lanceshitheadnada 2 years ago
what you ignore that is also that it also eliminates other choices - you have to have only the high-tech x-rays when they drag your broken body in from some unfortunate accident. you have to have the mri's and iv's and the silly life-saving drugs that they'll treat you with AND YOU DON'T HAVE A CHOICE!

Only if there was a public option it could be avoided
bangtizzy 2 years ago
WOW! I support of the public option wholeheartedly- we need it desperately! However, you should try to watch how you frame your argument- threatening people with H1N1 is not cool- and it removes credence from our argument- you should say something like: regardless of people being seriously ill, they still come into work, thus spreading their disease!
Btw, I don't think you have H1N1 if you're well enough to argue, threaten, and go to work- my heart goes out to you- I too am uninsured!

private insurance pushed all their sick on to medicare when it came around. So there is first of all a larger concentration of elderly and sick. But in the 90s medicare kept better control of costs. Socialism will only raise the cost of medical care. We have been socializing it since the 1960's and prices have been rising ever since. This isnt the only example. Take the cost of college tuition and our completely failed socialized schools. The list goes on and on.
EndTheFedRes 2 years ago 2
Prices keep going up for lack of real socialism. In a true socialist state the rich would be heavily taxed and that money used to fund medical cost and schools. If the rich payed their fair share we could fund all the schools in America.

Here is a great article on what government healthcare has been doing since the 60's. Google this:
"Government intervention broke healthcare. Now they claim even more will fix it"
You know we pay more for prescription drugs than anyone one else in the world right? Find out why. This is why medical bills are skyrocketing.
Truly I believe some (very little) government intervention is needed. The medical FREE MARKET was doing just fine until our government got involved.

Wrong, America has been privatizing it since the 60's, and it is actually the failure to socialize it that has caused consistently rising health care costs. Same with college tuition.

EndTheFedRes 2 years ago
Better than a high interest slave. I received pell grants and work study and lots of gov subsidy to help me get through universities and obtain degrees. I probably could not have afforded college otherwise. Please don't distort a low interest loan into "skyrocketing tuition", it's plainly absurd, and you need to do more than latch on to one ideology (libertarian, in your case). Study economics and do in-depth research. Googling biased shit ain't gonna get it, googleboy...
SinclairNicholas 2 years ago
Before the 60s (guessing at timeline) people were working part time jobs and going to school (yeah that was the price of tuition). Pay as you go, so to speak. No interest and no skyrocketing tuition.
As for a higher interest rate: Would you rather have a $50k loan at 3%, or a 10k loan at 10%? For the same education.
You better Google It. Silly goose.

When it comes down to private corporate Profit or the policyholder's Health, the profit motive wins every time....in fact it's what corporations are duty-bound to do! What's best for Healthcare, Inc. is NOT what's best for the patient, but what's profitable for the insurer.
aybayb 2 years ago
Nothing reveals the gullibility (stupidity) of people more than their stance against "socialized" medicine....or maybe they just enjoy paying MORE for healthcare than it's worth and are willing to pay a corporation twice what it costs to provide it...just so private insurers can continue to profit obscenely from paying LESS in claims.

The bills being debated will tax the heck out of all of us. They will hide it by taxing employers and insurance which will be passed onto consumers. We would be better off to do nothing then pass these massive spending taxing bills. While nothing in them will cut rising cost but actually add to it.

There is far less waste in the private sector none the less because they do want to make a profit, they invest your premiums to make money. Most Insurance operate at about a 3% profit margin. If it was a true free market system bad companies wouldn't be in business. I don't have enough room to explain.

These, of course, are the synthetic drug therapies that dont work
finefilth 2 years ago
Your theory on the origins of insurance are a reflection of laziness in your truth seeking.
Funds of ensurance were set up because most humans realized they would be effed in the eh if any illness struck their family. So everyone in town threw down on a fund of ensurance, and if someone in the village got sick and they had to pay out the nose for blood letting then the fund of ensurance would cover them.
Insurance is a social need, arguing otherwise is social darwinist bullshit.

It takes some sort of power and evil to do this and get away with it, which is what most people don't want to think about.
finefilth 2 years ago

I am a citizen and think this is a great country. However, this healthcare sucks. I had my 4 children in England and never had any problem getting my medical needs taken care of. Here, my husband and are are educated, self employed people without coverage because we can't afford around $1,200 a month. Disgraceful!!

Again, if you make a good point, I will surely agree with you.
thecrusadingdebator 2 years ago

SinclairNicholas 2 years ago
Well, I'm glad someone was compassionate enough to enlighten me. I found your analysis of the analyses made by fox news to be intelligent and comprehensible and, acceptable. Nice work. (And forgive my condescending tone, I condescend on everyone alike.)

YOU condescending? Look at all these people pointing out you are 15 as though that means you're dumb. Keep up the good work; you're the kind of American that gives me hope. I'll keep asking questions, & you keep doing the same. Maybe we'll both arrive at our own justified true beliefs that will coincide.

Thank you back. You deserve to feel like an adult because you think like one. Most importantly, you're still willing to suspend your judgments & keep seeking info to form your judgments. You will be the same when you are my age, & that seems rare these days. Good luck to you, & keep inquiring. You lead the future...

The problem is I also know the thieves and low life scum in our Government... Not good mix nor a good fix..

dankbot420 2 years ago 4
Thanks for expressing the basic grounds of reason. It really is as simple as you state it. When health care gets as expensive as rent, something is fundamentally wrong. In Europe, my health care is one tenth the price of what people rent for a typical apartment. That's a big difference, one that expresses a 90% reduction in the cost of health care, but which is NOT less in quality. The whole "state socialism" argument is a diversion from reality, although many Americans believe in the diversion.

free market health care is the best health care ever invented. but no one understands this they want freebies that really ant free and which bring about the shitiest system ever invented by man
spanishaustralian 2 years ago
"Free market" health care? You should define that. Dickensonian England was a "free market"; children were slave labor & the poor were thrown into debtor's prisons. An entirely free market always leads to a few rich & a lot of poor- always. As soon as we Americans decided the "free market" principles were bad for the average American, we set up regulations, then corporations/factories moved to where those regulations don't exist, i.e. Asia & South America. A totally "free market" hurts everyone

what really leads to monoplies and a disproportional wealthy class is the inflation of money.
for example the central bank inflates the money supply untill there is twice as much money chasing the same amount of goods. those who get in on the money creation first gain all the wealth once the money has filter through the system. this is what creates the imbalnce of wealth and increases poverty its not the free markets fault. free markets give the middle class there wealth silly.

spanishaustralian 2 years ago
That's the difference between me & you. I don't profess to have all the answers, but America's problems are sure as hell not caused by the brainless and oversimplified cause you attribute to everything (government involvement). I don't know where you got the notion that a totally free and unregulated market is how heaven works, but that's false, and history has demonstrated that time and again. Health care is a good example. A free market allows insurers to drop people, refuse to cover them etc.
SinclairNicholas 2 years ago
There you go again, oversimplifying. Government regulation causes unemployment, government regulation causes inflation, government regulation causes cancer, government regulation causes teenage pregnancy, government regulation causes the little green men in my head to call other people idiots & losers-- but the free market, it causes beauty, truth, gold-paved streets, teenage abstinence, the pleasant smell of my own bullshit. You're a joke. I had space to spell like a nonspanishaustralian idiot.
SinclairNicholas 2 years ago
history has no demonstartions of totally free markets idiot it has never ever existed. you dumb idiot. i never said i profess to know everything ever. fre market health care enables the best and most effective solutions to survive only so everyone in the country gets to enjoy the best most advanced health the human race can invent. socialist health care has no incentives to creat or invent. you get stuck with the same old same old. the system can never evolve its stays primitive.
spanishaustralian 2 years ago
and once again you come up with zero convincing arguments of what is really going on. fail to explain anything useful. government regulations cause many, many unintended consequences that you cant see directly. but indirectly ruin so much of our wonderful 200 yr experiment with free markets. dont worry we will eventually go back to the socialist tyrannic systems before our invention of free markets came to exist. thanks to people like you.
spanishaustralian 2 years ago
if you had 100 goods in a country. and a hundred dollars circulating in the country then each good cost $1 each ok. when the central bankers and banks come along and increase the money supply to $200 dollars all the goods must now be worth $2 each. the inflationist can buy half of all goods in the country. they gain half the wealth without creating or inventing anything. they steal it through inflation. this concept is what causes extreme wealth distribution its not the fault of fre markets DH.
spanishaustralian 2 years ago
Another obtuse and simpleminded model. Then you throw a word like "socialist" with your meaning rather than a real-world, complex definition. You see everything in black and white, It must be "free market" or "socialist government tyranny", and it must be nice to see the world the way you do, so that everybody else is wrong, and everybody else is an idiot because they don't understand your amazing (brainless) analysis of economics and the problem with governments. Bye idiot, keep on preaching...

this is obviously oversimplifying the concept but its an intro to what is really going on. you must understand that the free market is wrongfully being blamed by a currupt socialist rule in all our countries. understand that free markets raise the living standard of an entire country without it we sink back into poverty again. we join countries like russia, north korea, etc. places with little if any free markets yet still disproportionally wealth imbalanced.
