When I first heard from my English teacher saying that we're going to read Lord of the Flies later. By just hearing the title Lord of the Flies I thought the book was like a spoof of Lord of the Rings and that the book was whimsical and funny. But actually it's melancholy. Oh and I'm reading the book right now. The whole book was ruined for me because now I know what happens throughout the book, that there are deaths, and how the ending is. :/

We had to watch this in class and it was utterly stupid. I only liked Piggy, and I actually cried when he died. Fuck you Jack.

I hated it when Piggy was crying and his head got smashed by that boulder. I have never cried so much in my life. :'(

@missunicornz I'm a high school English teacher. You have to try to see this beyond the classroom dryness. The book is a good book, it just sometimes is taught in too much of a structured way for you to grasp it's "coolness". The same with Shakespeare. I try to help students see that these "stupid books" are cooler than most movies they watch at home. Give it a chance, but on your own time. Read it on your own, and you may find a ton of dramatic, edge of your seat moments.

In the book one of the characters Jack killed a boar and cut its head off

he stuck the head onto a stick and flies would hover around it

so yeah head on a stick = lord of the flies

@TotalNeutrality The Hebrew word for Satan is Beelzebub, which when literally translated to english it becomes "Lord of the flies" thus this is just one more symbol in the book showing that the pig is meant to symbolize the devil and the evil inside all of us

I first saw this film when I was maybe 10 or 11, possibly younger. Definitely scarred me a little. And this year (gr. 11) we're doing the book for the novel study. It's a great story with incredible symbolism! And a great movie too!

I just love this film, at first the book bored me but once watching the film i really got into the concept of the book. Such a great and unique storyline especially from the use of so much detail into the life of these boys stuck on a island and the pure effect on them. The relationships between boys and the growth of savage behaviour, even how the author bases so much around one symbolic feature, the conch. IN LOVE WITH IT!
