I read the book when I was like in 5th grade and I want to watch the movie...but im just wondering, is it really grotesque when they kill Simon and Piggy? Because I don't take violence very well.
I really liked the book. However, this movie version is not based on the most important symbols in the book and thus it ruins the important sense of the story. It is better to read it.
"WOW, just like the book, im sure Golding loved this interpretation of his greatest novel" - please not the sarcasm in this statement i dont want 2 give the wrong impression
There should be a remake of this movie and make it better how the book deserves to be. Both films ruined the classic book and the book deserves to have a movie that's good.
When I first heard from my English teacher saying that we're going to read Lord of the Flies later. By just hearing the title Lord of the Flies I thought the book was like a spoof of Lord of the Rings and that the book was whimsical and funny. But actually it's melancholy. Oh and I'm reading the book right now. The whole book was ruined for me because now I know what happens throughout the book, that there are deaths, and how the ending is. :/
@ceszchan I got mad at the parts where they started to kill each other, Like when they throw that rock on Piggy and when they "accidentally" killed Simon and then go on to try and kill Ralph.
Me and my best friend hate Jack so much, we call him Paris Hilton. xD
@XXXSmoshLovaXXX Hahah, I remember how I hated Jack so much too just after having watched the movie for the first time and then went "what?!" after finding out how many Jack-fans there were here on Youtube making fan videos and such with him xD
What ever happened to the actors in this film? I tried searching Chris Furrh (apparently he's 36 now) to see what he looks like but i can't find anything :( It's a shame their career just didn't boom...
@missunicornz I'm a high school English teacher. You have to try to see this beyond the classroom dryness. The book is a good book, it just sometimes is taught in too much of a structured way for you to grasp it's "coolness". The same with Shakespeare. I try to help students see that these "stupid books" are cooler than most movies they watch at home. Give it a chance, but on your own time. Read it on your own, and you may find a ton of dramatic, edge of your seat moments.
@DiamondDJandSound This is A Good Book so Far ^^ And When I'm Done with the Book I'm Gonna Watch the Movie. Yes, why do people think Books have lost their coolness because their old? Its really Good, some people need to take a crack at it ^^
I cried when I watched this one. I've read the book and seen the 1963 version, and stayed dry eyed in each. I liked Simon's character in this one better than the last :I
ugh this movie was terrible, in my opinion. the scene where they killed the pig gave me nightmares, i'm not a vegetarian but it just bothered the hell out of me
@TotalNeutrality The Hebrew word for Satan is Beelzebub, which when literally translated to english it becomes "Lord of the flies" thus this is just one more symbol in the book showing that the pig is meant to symbolize the devil and the evil inside all of us
I first saw this film when I was maybe 10 or 11, possibly younger. Definitely scarred me a little. And this year (gr. 11) we're doing the book for the novel study. It's a great story with incredible symbolism! And a great movie too!
I just love this film, at first the book bored me but once watching the film i really got into the concept of the book. Such a great and unique storyline especially from the use of so much detail into the life of these boys stuck on a island and the pure effect on them. The relationships between boys and the growth of savage behaviour, even how the author bases so much around one symbolic feature, the conch. IN LOVE WITH IT!
@iheartkathyy Actually, the book is WAY better than the movie. I found the first sentances broiing too, but once you've finished chapter 1, you're hooked on the story!
we watched the 60s version in class...the earlier movies tend to be almost exact to the book while from like the 1990s up they change the movie so much..i mean they dont even have english accents?? jacks got something southern going on...
@ceszchan Bloody scary though, its the only book that genuinely made me feel properly frightened - it is exactly my worst nightmare! but I love Piggy, he's the kind of guy you'd want on your side in a horror film - considerate, wise and loyal.
I LOVE this movie too! I just think they should have added the scene with Simon talking to the lord of the flies...
You can read more about my opinion on my blog :) I've just finished a post about LOTF, with a lot of pictures and hard work xD (the link is on my channel ^^)
@ceszchan Blog? I'll go check it out :D And yea, I agree.. my favorite character is Simon ^ ^, there should have showed more of him because he was very very important to the story. Though, I think that scene took place in Simon's head and if it was actually played out the movie, it would ruin it so much for me :s
reading this book in my English class;now I will look for the movie :3

Cn someone just explain to me why it's called lord of the "flies"?
TotalNeutrality 3 months ago
@TotalNeutrality
In the book one of the characters Jack killed a boar and cut its head off
he stuck the head onto a stick and flies would hover around it
so yeah head on a stick = lord of the flies
