  • i love bruce in all my body

  • I am 35....this album was one of my first cassette tapes? Remember them?

  • @MrCheapscapes yeah my first "tape" was Bobby Brown, Don't be Cruel. lol oh my!

  • not bad for an old man :) i saw him in 82 born in the usa tour he was like a bull on that stage ! !

  • @jixxxxer17 don't think so born in the usa was in 85?

  • @jixxxxer17 in your dreams!! 82 was the year nebraska was released, and it s the one album he did not tour with. Born in the usa was released 1984 and the mammoth world tour ran thru 1985. 26 years on from that he is still the truest and sexiest live rock and roller out there. age does not come into it.

  • happy birthday brruuuuucccceee!!!!

  • I gotta say, while the Boss is always the best, the Smithereens' version of this is pretty damn good, too.

  • Jesus Christ... that man is living sex! One of my favorite songs of all time.

  • @stephie4066 Living sex!!! LMFAO.... Best ever put!

  • @niljuarizo i wish you could have been there in the 80's, we had no concern about anything but ourselves and others, politics meant nothing, the music ! well just listen to it. We still had respect. we had good weed and great girls and i just about cry when i think of the 80's .... why you ask ? cause i didnt grasp thise years hard enough

  • Smokin HOT!!

  • The room was dark, our bed was empty

Then I heard that long whistle whine

And I dropped to my knees, hung my head and cried

    oooh man....

  • Last night I heard your voice You were crying, crying, you were so alone You said your love had never died You were waiting for me at home Put on my jacket, I ran through the woods I ran till I thought my chest would explode There in the clearing, beyond the highway In the moonlight, our wedding house shone I rushed through the yard, I burst through the front door My head pounding hard, up the stairs I climbed
  • why didnt we have to suffer millions of air plays of this song..........I'm so glad the media never got ahold of this song. it is still very personal to me

  • Now, I swing a sledgehammer on a , Railroad gang, knockn' down them cross ties workin' in the rain, an i feel like I'm a rider on a Down Bound train

  • its hard to describe the feelings you get listening to this but i'm sure everyone feels it

thats why theycall him "the boss"

  • this is one of the great American songs by a great American artist.

  • Does he really have down syndrome or is that just a rumor?

  • @VitalSigns1

    That was quite funny!

  • @VitalSigns1 Never heard that and it sounds like a rumor!

  • one idiot disliked this. O.o

  • One of my favorite songs. Thanks for putting it up.

  • @calwillnol you sound like a man Id like to drink a beer with and listen to stories and meanings of life. 24, starting my life in a the real world and starting to somewhat understand what these songs mean..

  • we love yr music , you need to come down south, we need to see you live

  • this is the anthem of the american working class right now. the little people forever fleeced and shoved around, clinging to their pride, by the big people who have it all sewn up. And we got a lot of down yet to come....

  • @elps84 Beautiful comment and well written

  • ILoveBruceILoveBruceILoveBruceILoveBruceILoveBruceILoveBruceILoveBruceILoveBruceILoveBruceILoveBruceILoveBruceILoveBruceILoveBruceILoveBruce

  • Never, ever, liked Springsteen till I saw the Glasto gig, never rated him,,hes a grafter, loved his live performance, his dudes rock, amazing, hardworking set...fair play to em...converted....rawness is cool!! Get in Bruce!!!!! Nice work!

  • This is the best of the 80's.. there's always goooood music

  • @geirboss69 I Never bought an album of his, till Born IN TheUSA, and it was a guilty pleasure of mine. i actually learned to play the guitar to this album

  • Narrador y poeta.. es que este hombre es increíble joder

  • The very first rock concert I've been to.

My friends somehow managed to get the tickets. I had to sneak out that night and ...got caught...my parents grounded me for 4 weeks.

    But jeez...it was worth it...!!!

  • one of the most underrated of his songs, maybe because it's so sad

  • Applies to places like Ohio and Michigan today...

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again: Everyone should have this song in their faves... Man! This is the best song! I remember showing it to my good friend on the phone one night; she was spellbound. She liked "Something in the Night" more (my fave too) but LOVED this one also. Yay! BUY BRUCE ALBUMS! :)

  • bruce springsteen is great, he incorporates keyboards, good guitar chords, and doesnt try to do too much with his voice. just singing normal like a dude and not some screaming stuff

  • My favorite artist of all time.

...Who gave birth to my others.

    Bruce; you're my soul's validation.

Through you I know I'm not alone.

    ...Absolute perfection.

You never cease to amaze me.

As naive as it may seem; I truly love you.

  • a movie put to song, perfection.

  • test

  • I agree. Very underrated song. I appreciate the last verse offers no redemption for "Joe". It goes from bad to worse and the character ends up breaking the law and working on a chain gang. That's how i see hear it anyway

  • Superb.

  • is it one of the best songs ever or what?

  • his best work

  • The master does what only he can, took Dylan lyricism to a rocked out stadium feel......love it

  • BRAMELL LANE

  • good perfomance! but not greates sound quality... listen to the drums :(.. bassdrum overrulez everything!

  • what a song... greatest song writer EVER!! the boss nuff said..

  • omg i would.....look at him,the voice is enough usually but wow look at him here

  • the guitar, the lyrics, the voice ...

    the boss

  • This album is part of my life. It was my favourite album when my mother died, so it mingles in my mind. This and Bobby Jean are my favourites. I'll die loving these songs.

  • Bruce looked pretty good back then, but it was never style over substance.

  • dogs1905.....I agree. Never style over substance, although his style is so unquestionably substantial.

  • love his guns!!

  • anytime i get asked if i could travel back in time to any gig. i always say Paris 85. I have it on dvd ( which was very hard to get ) but as you know yourself, live concerts are 10times better and if the dvd is amazing, then just wonder what hearing it live woulda been. My fav Bruce song btw

  • One of my favourite songs...I never could see him in concert until 1988 but since then, I've never missed a concert in Madrid

  • i wish i could have been there to see him in the 80's.....i mean iv been going to his concerts like 3 or 4 times a year since the reunion tour in 1999.....im 19 years old and i am the biggest bruce fan u will ever meet.

  • Saw him in 1978 at Berkeley Community Theatre and his 4 hour marathon was more riveting and amazing than even Woodstock 9 years earlier. Fell on hard times, never got to see him live again.

  • @niljuanzo No, I'm the same age as Bruce. we both were born in the year of the OX in 1949.

I grew up with this guy through two marriages, jobs, highs and lows. You HAVE to live 60 years to really understand his words and emotion..."And I dropped to my knees, hung my head and cried." But you get up the next day and go back to the reality and hardship of life.

  • @calwillnol

I'm afraid to say you need to live 60 years to understand is, quite frankly, bullshit. He was 34 or 35 at the time, and, as far as I'm aware, not somehow supernaturally empathic, so... you get my point.

  • @niljuanzo

    After me.... :)

  • @niljuanzo I have seen Bruce 27 times... first time 1978! I love the old stuff but all bruce is great.... I beat you by about 20 yrs on the biggest fan thing LOL.... he is the greatest story teller of all time and musically he is a Genious, keep listening.... it's timeless and he keeps coming back with more... Long live the BOSS!!!!!!

  • @niljuanzo YOUR AGE IS IRRELEVANT!!!!! WHAT IS WITH PEOPLE FEELING ITS NECESSARY!?

  • @bpo87 What is with the hostility, seriously bro this is you tube not a presidential debate...chill

  • @niljuanzo i wish i could have been there to see him in the 80's..me too me too :) <3 he is so great

  • @niljuanzo I was there in the 80"s First person in my town to own "born in the USA"

  • @3amwu It must have been a pretty small town dude if you know that for sure! I was 1 during 'the USA Tour. I think the first time I would of heard Bruce was on Streets Of Philadelphia but ofcourse I didn't know who he was at the time. My history teacher gave me a tape after I said that I liked Born To Run, when I first heard it, I thought that it was a new song such are the stunning production values!

  • @niljuanzo do you have springsteen painted on your bedroom wall? i do ;) now that makes me a hardcore springsteen fan!

  • @brucespringsteen2008 correction, that basicaly means u have no life...i have a few posters, one of which was signed by max and nils

  • @niljuanzo i have a cd signed by him :)! and loadsa other signed stuff

  • @brucespringsteen2008 i call bullshit.

  • @jonnygb4 thats not called bullshit! its just because i've met bruce and brought loads of stuff!

  • its a great song. he talks about real life. sometimes life gets you down

  • well zxhamstring, must be good to be you because in other songs when the boss talks bout textiles miles closing down, that is depressing but it is real life you cock.

  • he says its the saddest song he's ever written....might be right. its a good one though

  • I find Sinaloa Cowboys more heart wrenching but this song really is haunting, love it

  • @killbot6767

it's up there with the promise.

  • @killbot6767 Backstreets turns this into Sherry Darling, Cadillac Ranch, and Out in the Street rolled together.

  • why so many thumbs down for zxhamstring? He's right, this song is really haunting. But in my books this is one of Springsteens best song. You can interpret the lyrics in so many ways, thats why it's so mysterious.

  • BRUCE FOR LIFE!

  • "...put on my jacket, i ran through the woods, i ran til i thought my chest would explode. there in the clearing, beyond the highway, in the moonlight our wedding house shown." amazing

  • Great music,im not gay or anything like that but i can see why the ladies like the boss, thanks boss from oz

  • This has been my first Bruce show.

    Milan, june 21st 1985.

    Unforgettable...

  • One of my fav Bruce Springsteen songs

    thanks for posting 5*

    Ben

  • I (foolishly) thought that I had a grip on how astounding Bruce's songwriting really was.... Then I stumbled upon this jewel... The man is one of the greatest...

  • the well is deep aint it?

  • This song pretty much explains the hardships of a man who nearly loses everything..One of the best songs ever written...the Boss is the man!!

  • this song has been killing me for over two decades.

    Beautifull. Wonderfull.

There are several great takes of this song being played live.... and this one is at the top of the list. Nice to see comments from other people that really appreciate this song.... Thanks

  • by far my favorite singer of all time.. my damn idol got every cd every live show, greatest of all time, live shit is amazing all round the best... we love you bruce

  • I love him...

  • love it , real underated song of his one of his best

  • jsut as gd as when he played it at emirates in 2008, brilliant, cant wait untill 2009 tour, pure legend!!!

  • He did this song during the reunion tour in 2000 in Austin, TX, and it was AMAZING! A fantastic show by a truly phenomenal band!

  • Saw him around this time in Frankfurt (memorable gig and I was only 9)!! Been to see bruce a few times since, next time I heard this live was at the Emirates this year (not quite Frankfurt, but still top class). Best songwriter in the history of songwriting!!!!!!!

  • wish i could have been there

  • This is the best song ever written.

  • great song great concert

  • Killer vid. *****!

  • Now i work down at the car wash where all it ever does is rain, awesome lyrics this is one of his best.

  • la mia favorita canzone :-)

  • Molto bella!

La mia favorita di Bruce e' "The gost of Tom Joad"

  • Great song :-)

  • why this wasnt on greatest hits album ill never no, brill song,

  • Making a greatest hits album to springsteen and the e streets must be the hardest job in world, neverending selection of good songs!

  • it was

  • it wasnt , check the CD

  • I get a lot of energy just listening and watching Bruce and the e-street band-they put it all out there and enjoy what they're doing.

  • this man is a god among mortals. He is the greatest rockstar ever. And I will listen to him till the day I die. And when I am on my way to heaven the angels will sing Bruce. Long live the Boss.

  • fantastic! the No.1 thing to do before i die - see bruce live

  • not quite enough, now that i saw him live i feel bad cause I missed so many concerts...

  • great song

  • thanx for putn the words in emily280607, brill song by the boss, go bruce go haha, brankie n,ireland

  • I had a job, I had a girl

I had something going mister in this world

I got laid off down at the lumber yard

Our love went bad, times got hard

Now I work down at the carwash

Where all it ever does is rain

Don't you feel like you're a rider on a downbound train

  • She just said "Joe I gotta go

We had it once we ain't got it any more"

She packed her bags left me behind

She bought a ticket on the Central Line

Nights as I sleep, I hear that whistle whining

I feel her kiss in the misty rain

And I feel like I'm a rider on a downbound train

Last night I heard your voice

You were crying, crying, you were so alone

  • You said your love had never died

You were waiting for me at home

Put on my jacket, I ran through the woods

I ran till I thought my chest would explode

There in the clearing, beyond the highway

In the moonlight, our wedding house shone

I rushed through the yard, I burst through the front door

  • My head pounding hard, up the stairs I climbed

The room was dark, our bed was empty

Then I heard that long whistle whine

And I dropped to my knees, hung my head and cried

Now I swing a sledge hammer on a railroad gang

Knocking down them cross ties, working in the rain

Now don't it feel like you're a rider on a downbound train

  • i wish modern music was the same as this...

  • Y.E.S. ... just YES

  • My friend always has these shitty parties with dull people, but when we get enough beer we always put this song on and start to sing really loud and bad :)

  • I need to attend these parties if you're gonna play bruce all night. Hahahaha! Hook me up!

  • You betcha'! :D

  • this song chokes me up every time, one of the most poetic songs ever written, most of us can identify somewhere, she was everything

  • the boss...so many prefect songs on this album this one is unforgettable

  • no...you are all wrong, this is a song that was well known, in fact, when playing his record after a while you will skip "born in the us" and other radio hits...but this song, with such a sincere message....you never skiped! I was there, the eighties hehe.

    Fantastic song!!!

  • Without a doubt one of his best songs, probably even cooler because it's kinda unknown to the big public.

  • One of the many "unknown" well-written tunes overlooked by casual fans of the Boss.
