Besides, even winter clouds can produce lightning if the conditions are right. I remember one especially severe blizzard while living in New Hampshire - there was lightning and thunder even though it was snowing heavily. It felt very unnatural.
@Sleddog116 Yea, it's called Thundersnow. We get it all the time in Central Ontario in the winters. Very shocking, cause one second it's snowing, then the next second a massive thunder clap is scaring the bajeebees out of you...
u dont hear thunder because its too far away. i think these storms are more then 40 to 70 miles from you, and thunder can only be heard withing a range of 15 miles
If you look carefully you can see that there are actually 2 thunderstorms in shot: the second is to the left and much farther away than the one in centre.
up here in indiana the words lightning and winter don't fit together unfortunately :(

That is a Supercell thunderstorms we get them here offten in eastern Colorado.

One summer we had one just like that remain stationary for about 2 hours before dissipating.
