  • you'll never see this again in our lifetime

  • i fish in the bay slot is 18 to 27 1 per person... redfish r a fun fish to fight and a great one to eat

  • i love to eat redfish.

  • awesome fishing for sure gona add as a favorite

  • this used to happen south of horn and ship island out of biloxi ms

  • wow... and I wanted to catch just one in Florida...just one hehe

  • I've seen this a few times. Twice in Lake Pontchartrain. It happens a lot in the passes down in Cocodrie. Live crab fishing is what most of the guys do, but when they are this thick, you can throw just about anything and all the reds down at the passes are 25 lbs and up. When the crabs run out, use the left over claws, legs, anything with a hook in it will get them. You can only keep one per person, so we usually only keep the ones that are deep hooked and don't worry about the size.

  • Interesting but would have been far better with a polarizing filter

  • Unreal. You are right, nobody would have ever believed it.

  • how deep is this?

  • Whoa.

  • Wow. Great video. That is surely a once in a lifetime event. I had a school of huge catfish swimming around me in lake Salvandro....feeding them bread out of my hands

  • I've seen pictures of this happen before Hurricane Ike or Gustav last year. They are that color I believe because of the water clarity. When water is muddy and I catch reds they are usually almost white. Don't quote me on that though.

  • @L4m3st0n3 the lighter fish are the fish that just come out of the ocean. the darker ones are the ones that stay in more brackish water

  • AWESOME !!!!

  • o ya true, they are very pretty redfish, i would probly mount one if i got one that looked like that?

  • omg, thats alot of reds, never seen em like that

  • You said it was unbelievable, which is right. If this wasn't on film, most people could never believe that... just amazing.

  • Beautiful reds; lucky trip.

  • So jealous! Truly a sight to see

  • man those are way better lookin reds then we have down here in tx

  • Not true, Its very rare that this happens but it does happen in Sabine Pass, TX about 12 miles outside the jetties my dad and i got on them just like this for three days then the pogie boats wiped out the pogies and the reds were gone, we still have a redfish mounted on our wall from the first day this happened. this was back in 1999

  • Im talkin about the pretty red color, not the numbers i haven't seen any that pretty down here

  • hey now, there are nice reds in houston, just not as good as before the hurricane, man before the hurricane me and my buddies caught them that size all the time.

  • lol im not talkin about the size there are still plenty that size down around here im talkin about the color...I dont really ever see any that bright and pretty down here

  • Awesome...some of the best footage I have seen.

  • You are so lucky. How much did the big fish at the end weigh?

  • Great video! Chance of a lifetime

  • All I can say is WOW. thanks for sharing that video,

  • I've been fishing the gulf since I was small child (many summers in Grand Isle) and I have never seen anything like this! AWESOME! I would love to experience this just one time..I would die a happy fishergirl! lol...

  • In Louisiana the limit sizes for Redfish are 16" to 27" and it is 5 redfish per person, one can be over 27" with NO maximum size.

  • bigggggg

  • @sportsman949 this is true good rule but most of the small ones are kept there due to the bigger they are the worst the meat will taste the 16 to 20 inch range is the most commonly kept reds there

  • Someone said they thought all these Redfish were females. Thats not the truth either, We caught males and females that day, and released them all. The males make a drumming sound with their stomach, and more than half of what we caught that day were drumming.

  • In Louisiana you are allowed 5 redfish a day for a limit, only one per person being over 27" . we normally do not keep Redfish over 30" or so inches, they are hard to clean and those fish or your breeding stock. We normally throw them back to spawn another day. It is not a state law saying we can not keep them, we just use our better judgement.

If a client wants to keep one for a trophy, we will take it for his daily creel. And He has caught his Bullred for the day.

  • MYTWINTURBOGTO

I have know Scott for over 10 years. I can tell you without any reservation that NONE of that catch was over the limit. Scott takes great measures to ensure that any fish that is caught and released is released alive. I have personaly watched the man work with a bull for over 20-30 minutes to make sure that he was not only alive, but also healthy. Jealousy is no reason to call someone's integrity into question.

    bassjacks

  • LOL! Jelousy? I think not!! Get a clue and read the entire comment!!

I never have a problem catching a limit of redfish! But What can I say I have the laguna madre to fish.. I never questioned anyones integrety. I simply stated its pointless to keep more than one bull red. They are no good to eat. If you want a trophy fine. I replied after the clarification. Sorry I didnt see a check it stick on the fish cleaning table. But atleast 7 fish looked over 27" if I am wrong I can admit that

  • This is Capt. Scott who shot the video, and NO we did not keep any fish over the limit. You are allowed one per person over 27" per day in LA. One of the guys who was in the boat wanted to keep one of the bulls we caught to have a trophy mount done. ALL of the other 30 to 40 Redfish we caught that day were released ALIVE and well to fight another day. I take great pride in releasing the fish we catch alive and well.

  • We get pickanannies like Mytwin...all the time when anyone post up on Texas Kayak Fisherman site. They want to see a stick next to the posted fish? I have something they can stick and you do not have to wonder where. These people do not have a life so they are always on the lookout for something or someone to nitpick on. Good video. Great LA fishing and I can not wait to get back to Venice!

    Mike in Texas

  • Someone was living right.........

  • Did you ever put a top water bait on? I heard one of the clients ask for a topwater because he had never caught one on topwater. That would have been a priority, as you said, you could could have put a hook on a cork. In fact, you could have ran the line through the cork and tied a hook to it if you didn't have any expensive top waters in the box.

    Must have been a blast!

  • Saw reds three weeks ago smashing finger mullet coming through Sebastian Inlet (central Fla.). One of the more amazing sights I've had.

The mullet were packed tight, in fear, in a giant ball--so tight they rode each other's backs at the surface. The reds wanted them so bad, some crashed out of the water. The mullet moved to the shore and the reds came with them. I stood there watching them flash at the top within arm's reach. Red through the black bait ball

Bad day to leave the camera at home.

  • they look like Koi in a fish pond

  • this is the day i die ad go to heavan

  • holy shit!!! the day this happens to me is the day i fukin shit and jizz me pantolenez.

    MYTWINTURBOGTO-is a pussy shut up,

fukn badass, when i watched this i yelled. I gota boner!!!! if i were there i woulda thrown a god damn castnet u know im saing!!!

  • Wow -yall had a ball-please dismiss the haterz-some in think they are marine biologist .Great trip Capt'n.

  • They only kept 2 bullreds!!! The rest are slot fish 16"-27".

    Capt. Jason

  • Thanks for the clarification but I saw at least 5 fish that are questionably over 27" To each is own I guess.. We keep 3 fish in texas and its 20-28" you can only keep a BR if you use your tag that you have to buy from the state for 3 dollars. Like I said nothing wrong to keep a trophy. If they really only kept 2 over sized fish good for them. But that's not what it looked like in the video. good fishing to you.

  • It is the captain's job to put his paying customers on the fish. The customers wanted to keep fish so they made the decision to keep their legal limit. There is nothing wrong with catching a legal limit of redfish. They are everywhere around here.

  • Your an idiot and obviously dont know anything about fishing or catch and release. Go back to shining shoes , if you even wear any you landlubber liberal tree hugger.

  • dood, having worked in the industry, I can tell you there is never going to be a problem with redfish.. the hatcheries have the science down, and can churn out hundreds of millions of fish a year which they release in Texas estuaries. With record numbers of redfish in 2008 and 2009, coastal fisheries is pushing for a 5 redfish limit.. hopefully the damn guides dont torpedo this one again. the fishery can definitely handle it. btw did you cut open those fish to determine they were all female?

  • dumbass

  • Is that legal? In Florida its one a day, 18-27 inch slot.

  • Louisiana is 5 fish per person per day, 16" min, only 1 fish of the 5 can be over 27"....

  • heh Texas or Louisiana dont have a redfish problem.. and we dont have a red snapper problem either.

  • Never seen that many red fish in my life thats once in a world thing... I would use a cast ent and pick the biggest ones.

  • Never seen a school quite that big, but that is some good fun right there. My buddy's lease over here in SW LA gets schools all year long. Good video.
